HEADLINES

DOWN GOES NUMBER TEN – In NCAA Division Two the BEMIDJI STATE BEAVERS welcomed the nation’s number 10 team – the AUGUSTANA (SD) VIKINGS. A scoreless 1st Quarter was followed by a 7-0 Beavers lead at Halftime. The Vikings went up 10-7 in the 3rd Quarter but the 4th saw Bemidji State come from behind to win the game 17-10.

EIGHTY-SIX – The NAIA’s BENEDICTINE COLLEGE RAVENS traveled to face the WILLIAM WOODS UNIVERSITY OWLS in this game. The Ravens converted their 17-0 opening Quarter lead into a 58-0 advantage by the Half. After the break Benedictine College remained perfect on defense as they coasted to an EIGHTY-SIX to NOTHING triumph.

NAIA OVER NCAA – On Saturday the DEFIANCE COLLEGE YELLOW JACKETS from the NAIA traveled to face NCAA Division Three’s BLUFFTON COLLEGE BEAVERS. The Beavers were on top 7-6 in the 1st Quarter and 14-9 by the midpoint. The Yellow Jackets went up 16-14 in the 3rd Quarter, then held on for a 23-21 victory in the 4th. 

NCAA OVER NAIA – NCAA Division Three’s BREVARD COLLEGE TORNADOES took it on the road against the KENTUCKY CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS from the NAIA. Neither team scored in the opening Quarter, but the Tornadoes led 17-7 at Halftime and 34-7 to end the 3rd Quarter. The 4th saw Brevard College win 41-25.

NINETY-SIX – Staying in D3 for a moment, the ILLINOIS COLLEGE BLUEBOYS were less than gracious hosts to the BELOIT COLLEGE BUCCANEERS. The Blueboys grabbed a quick 35-0 advantage in the 1st Quarter and continued to dominate Beloit 69-14 at the Half and 90-14 in the 3rd. The 4th ended in a 96-14 Illinois College victory.

HILLSDALE ON THE ROAD – In this game the storied HILLSDALE COLLEGE CHARGERS traveled to face the OHIO DOMINICAN UNIVERSITY PANTHERS. The Chargers put up 7 points in each Quarter, leading 7-0, 14-6 and 21-6 in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Quarters, respectively. Hillsdale won out 28-6 in the 4th.

STALLIONS STAY STRONG – The NAIA’s NORTH AMERICAN UNIVERSITY STALLIONS played host to the ARKANSAS BAPTIST COLLEGE BUFFALOES. The Stallions dominated their opponents on both sides of the ball, leading the Buffaloes 21-6 at the Half and then going on to hammer them by a final tally of 31-12.

NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics)

UPSETS IN THE RANKINGS – The COLLEGE OF IDAHO COYOTES won 27-24 in Overtime against the (14) SOUTHERN OREGON UNIVERSITY RAIDERS (should be Sea Gulls)   ###   Meanwhile, the OLIVET NAZARENE UNIVERSITY TIGERS downed the (18) UNIVERSITY OF ST. FRANCIS (IN) COUGARS 39-31   ###   And the MARIAN UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS won 37-28 at the (24) ST. FRANCIS (IL) FIGHTING SAINTS.

OFF THE SCHNEID – In this game the MONTANA STATE-NORTHERN LIGHTS took the field against the visiting ROCKY MOUNTAIN COLLEGE BATTLIN’ BEARS. RMC led 7-0 in the 1st Quarter but the Lights went up 12-7 by Halftime. A scoreless 3rd Quarter was followed by a 19-13 MSU-Northern victory over the Battlin’ Bears.

UNDER THE RADAR CLASSICS – The PERU STATE BOBCATS got a 21-14 road win at the ST. AMBROSE UNIVERSITY FIGHTING BEES   ###   Elsewhere, the AVILA UNIVERSITY AVALANCHE (now the Eagles) defeated the UNIVERSITY OF ST. MARY SPIRES 32-24   ###   And the BLUEFIELD COLLEGE RAMBLING RAMS survived an 18-17 visit from the POINT UNIVERSITY SKYHAWKS.   

BURNT TO A CRISP – This game pitted the ARIZONA CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY FIRESTORM against their guests the SIMPSON UNIVERSITY RED HAWKS. The Firestorm’s 14-7 1st Quarter lead was as close as the Red Hawks got. By Halftime ACU led 35-14 on their way to a 71-27 folding, spindling and mutilating of Simpson U.

NCCAA (National Christian College Athletic Association)

SAD FAREWELL – The TAYLOR UNIVERSITY TROJANS sent the visiting CONCORDIA (MI) CARDINALS out on a sour note. The Cardinals held a 7-0 edge in the opening Quarter but the Trojans went up 10-7 by the Half and 17-7 to end the 3rd Quarter. In the 4th Taylor held on for a 20-14 win, ending the final season of the storied Concordia (MI) program.

FOUR IN A ROW – Meanwhile, the UNIVERSITY OF FT. LAUDERDALE EAGLES (should be Flamingos) made it 4 straight wins as they welcomed the ATLANTIS UNIVERSITY ATLANTEANS. Senior Day for the University of Ft. Lauderdale was marked with a bout of defensive perfection with the Eagles shutting out the Atlanteans 27-0.

UNHAPPY SENIOR DAY – In this game the KANSAS WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY COYOTES took it on the road against the STERLING COLLEGE WARRIORS. The Coyotes kept their opponents off the scoreboard until the 4th Quarter as they led the game 7-0 by Halftime and 23-0 in the 3rd Quarter. The 4th ended in a 23-3 triumph for Kansas Wesleyan.

BLOWOUT WINS – The GENEVA COLLEGE GOLDEN TORNADOES hosted the WAYNESBURG UNIVERSITY YELLOW JACKETS and sent them home reeling from a 33-6 loss    ###    And the GREENVILLE UNIVERSITY PANTHERS won a 29-0 shutout at the CROWN COLLEGE POLARS.

NCAA DIVISION TWO

OTHER UPSETS IN THE RANKINGS – The only other Upset in the D2 rankings came in the game between the UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA AT DULUTH BULLDOGS and the visiting 15th ranked MINNESOTA STATE MAVERICKS. A 7-0 opening Quarter lead for the Mavericks faded away as the Bulldogs led 13-9 at Halftime and 27-9 in the 3rd before winning it 30-16.

COOL NAME GAMES – The MILLERSVILLE UNIVERSITY MARAUDERS won a tight 23-21 affair at the EDINBORO UNIVERSITY FIGHTING SCOTS   ###   Meanwhile, the LOCK HAVEN UNIVERSITY BALD EAGLES downed their hosts the GANNON UNIVERSITY GOLDEN KNIGHTS 21-13   ###   And the UPPER IOWA UNIVERSITY PEACOCKS blew out the MISSOURI S&T MINERS 51-7.

franklin pierce university ravens helmetPUTTING IN OVERTIME – This game pitted the FRANKLIN PIERCE UNIVERSITY RAVENS against the home standing ASSUMPTION UNIVERSITY GREYHOUNDS. The 1st Half ended with the Ravens up 6-0 but the Greyhounds forced OT with a 13-13 tie. Neither team scored in the 1st Overtime, the 2nd ended in a 21-19 victory for Franklin Pierce U.

INSTANT CLASSICS – The DELTA STATE STATESMEN visited the MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE CHOCTAWS and defeated them 20-14   ###   Elsewhere, the NORTHWOOD UNIVERSITY TIMBERWOLVES survived a 49-42 shootout with the WALSH UNIVERSITY CAVALIERS   ###   And the WASHBURN UNIVERSITY ICHABODS won 35-28 at the NORTHEASTERN STATE RIVERHAWKS.

NCAA DIVISION THREE

UPSETS IN THE RANKINGS – The 17th ranked LINFIELD COLLEGE WILDCATS won 34-7 at the number 16 WHITWORTH UNIVERSITY PIRATES   ###   The JOHN CARROLL UNIVERSITY BLUE STREAKS defeated the visiting 22nd ranked MARIETTA COLLEGE PIONEERS 49-35   ###   And the ALFRED UNIVERSITY SAXONS downed the number 25 BROCKPORT GOLDEN EAGLES 23-14.

alvernia university golden wolvesFOUR QUARTERS WASN’T ENOUGH – This game pitted the ALVERNIA UNIVERSITY GOLDEN WOLVES against their guests the MISERICORDIA UNIVERSITY COUGARS. The Cougars were on top 21-14 come Halftime and 28-14 in the 3rd Quarter. The 4th ended in a 28-28 tie before the Golden Wolves managed a 34-31 victory in Overtime.

COOL NAME BOWLS – The AUSTIN COLLEGE KANGAROOS defeated the LYON COLLEGE SCOTS 31-21   ###   Meanwhile, the PACIFIC LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY LUTES beat the PUGET SOUND UNIVERSITY LOGGERS 34-21   ###   And the CENTRAL COLLEGE DUTCH won 32-0 at the NEBRASKA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY PRAIRIE WOLVES.

UNDER THE RADAR CLASSIC – The LAKELAND COLLEGE MUSKIES took the field against the visiting ROCKFORD UNIVERSITY REGENTS. A 7-7 1st Quarter tie became a 13-7 Muskies lead going into Halftime. The 3rd Quarter ended with Lakeland up 21-7, and in the 4th the Muskies held on against a Regents rally for a 35-28 win.

NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association)

Iowa Western CollegeNUMBERS ONE AND THREE ROLL – The nation’s number 1 IOWA WESTERN COLLEGE REIVERS won a 21-14 thriller at the HIGHLAND COLLEGE SCOTTIES    ###    And the 3rd ranked HUTCHINSON COLLEGE BLUE DRAGONS logged a 42-17 road victory over the GARDEN CITY COLLEGE BRONCBUSTERS.

Monroe College Mustangs helmetMUSTANG STAMPEDE – The MONROE UNIVERSITY MUSTANGS traveled to face the independent NEWPORT NEWS APPRENTICE SCHOOL BUILDERS (Shipbuilders). The Mustangs seized a quick 16-0 1st Quarter lead and never lost control from there. The final tally in this Upset was Monroe U. 40  Builders 0.

Tyler College Apaches helmet NEWVARYING DEGREES OF BLOWOUTS – The (10) TYLER COLLEGE APACHES hammered the visiting KILGORE COLLEGE RANGERS 28-17   ###   Elsewhere, the (5) SNOW COLLEGE BADGERS eviscerated the SUSSEX COUNTY COLLEGE SKYLANDERS 62-21   ###   And the (4) NORTHWEST MS COLLEGE RANGERS won 34-7 at the EAST CENTRAL COLLEGE WARRIORS.

Butler (KS) GrizzliesWE WENT TO A FOOTBALL GAME BUT A BASEBALL GAME BROKE OUT – This game saw the number 11 BUTLER (KS) GRIZZLIES welcome the IOWA CENTRAL COLLEGE TRITONS. The defenses dominated three-fourths of the contest as neither team scored until the 4th Quarter. The Grizzlies triumphed by a final score of 7-3.

CCCAA (California Community College Athletic Association)

Mount San Antonio College MountiesTUSSLE IN THE TOP FOUR – The number 1 MT. SAN ANTONIO COLLEGE MOUNTIES took the field against the visiting 4th ranked GOLDEN WEST COLLEGE RUSTLERS. This was a tale of 2 Halves as the Rustlers led 7-3 and 21-10 in the 1st 2 frames. The Mounties knotted things up at 24-24 in the 3rd Quarter before winning the game 34-27 in the 4th.

Chabot CollegeHAPPY HOME STANDS – The CHABOT COLLEGE GLADIATORS ran through their guests the LOS MEDANOS COLLEGE MUSTANGS 35-7   ###   Meanwhile, the SANTA MONICA COLLEGE CORSAIRS keelhauled the PIERCE COLLEGE BRAHMA BULLS 61-27   ###   And the COLLEGE OF THE DESERT ROADRUNNERS defeated the SANTA ANA COLLEGE DONS 34-7.

San Diego Mesa CollegeROAD CLASSIC – In this game the SAN DIEGO MESA COLLEGE OLYMPIANS traveled to face the PALOMAR COLLEGE COMETS. A 7-7 1st Quarter tie remained unchanged at Halftime. The Comets went up 10-7 in the 3rd Quarter only to see the Olympians roar back in the 4th to win out 14-10.

Shasta College Knights helmet NEWUNEXPECTEDLY TIGHT – Yesterday the SHASTA COLLEGE KNIGHTS held on for a 40-35 victory over the visiting SANTA ROSA COLLEGE BEAR CUBS   ###   The VENTURA COLLEGE PIRATES took down the COLLEGE OF THE CANYONS COUGARS 28-24   ###   And the BUTTE COLLEGE ROADRUNNERS beat the SIERRA COLLEGE WOLVERINES 35-28.

  2. Concordia game got me off on a three-hour research sidetrack. Pleasant diversion. A possibility looms. The same one as many times before. And at my age?

    • Wow, that’s good news! And regarding Concordia (MI) they used to be pretty dominant in the NAIA and NCCAA but 2024-2025 is the last year for their university’s intercollegiate sports programs.
