HEADLINES

THIRTEEN OVER SEVEN – The NAIA’s 13th ranked NORTHWESTERN (IA) COLLEGE RED RAIDERS visited the country’s number 7 DORDT UNIVERSITY DEFENDERS. In this very strange game neither team had scored by Halftime. The 3rd Quarter saw the Red Raiders put up 3 points which wound up being the ONLY points scored in the game. Yes, 3-0 was the final tally in this clash of ranked teams.

NUMBER EIGHT FALLS – Staying in the NAIA for right now, the number 15 BAKER UNIVERSITY WILDCATS took it on the road against the 8th ranked MIDAMERICA NAZARENE UNIVERSITY PIONEERS. MNU were on top 7-3 in the 1st Quarter, but the Wildcats went up 10-7 by the Half. A scoreless 3rd Quarter was followed by Baker U. winning out 20-14.

NULLIFYING NUMBER NINE – Down in NCAA Division Three, the UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN-STOUT BLUE DEVILS traveled to play the nation’s number 9 UW-OSHKOSH TITANS. A 14-14 1st Quarter tie became a 28-14 Blue Devils lead at the break. The Titans outscored Stout 28-17 in the 2nd Half, but the Blue Devils still won 45-42.  

MARATHON GAME OF THE WEEK – The NAIA’s BETHEL (TN) WILDCATS squared off against the home standing LINDSEY WILSON COLLEGE BLUE RAIDERS. A 7-7 Halftime tie became a 14-14 deadlock to end the 4th Quarter. The 1st Overtime had a 21-21 result, and it took until the FOURTH OVERTIME for the Wildcats to eke out a 33-31 win via a Safety.

HILLSDALE HOME STAND – NCAA Division Two’s storied HILLSDALE COLLEGE CHARGERS welcomed the TIFFIN UNIVERSITY DRAGONS on Saturday. The Dragons were up 7-6 in the 1st Quarter, but the Chargers went on top 13-10 by the Half. The 3rd Quarter ended in a 17-13 Tiffin lead before Hillsdale came back for a 20-17 victory in the 4th.  

NINETY-ONE – Back in the NAIA, the TAYLOR UNIVERSITY TROJANS found themselves on the road against the MADONNA UNIVERSITY CRUSADERS. The Trojans grabbed a quick 21-6 opening Quarter lead and never looked back from there. Taylor University dominated the Crusaders on both sides of the ball for a NINETY-ONE to TWENTY-TWO slaughter.

NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics)

OTHER UPSETS IN THE RANKINGS – The only other Upset in the NAIA rankings yesterday came in the game between the 25th ranked SOUTHWESTERN COLLEGE MOUNDBUILDERS and their hosts the number 21 EVANGEL UNIVERSITY VALOR. The Moundbuilders led the Valor 14-3 at the midpoint of the game before polishing them off 21-3 in the 4th Quarter.

UNDER THE RADAR CLASSICS – The KANSAS WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY COYOTES managed a 23-20 victory over the visiting OTTAWA (KS) BRAVES   ###   Meanwhile, the (19) SOUTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY FIRE won 23-21 at the AVE MARIA UNIVERSITY GYRENES   ###   The TABOR COLLEGE BLUEJAYS downed the U. OF ST. MARY SPIRES 24-20   ###   And the MT. MARTY UNIVERSITY LANCERS won 24-21 at the HASTINGS COLLEGE BRONCOS. 

FINALLY, A WIN – It took until November 9th, but the NORTH AMERICAN UNIVERSITY STALLIONS finally got off the Schneid for 2024 against the visiting SOUTHWEST RAIDERS. The Stallions won with style, leading 7-0 in the 1st Quarter and 28-6 at Halftime on their way to a very authoritative 42-12 win over the Raiders.

BLOWOUTS – The BETHEL (KS) THRESHERS kicked around the BETHANY COLLEGE SWEDES to the tune of 50-14   ###   The (10) MONTANA TECH OREDIGGERS clobbered the MONTANA STATE-NORTHERN LIGHTS 54-14   ###   And the ST. AMBROSE UNIVERSITY FIGHTING BEES won 50-22 at the CLARKE UNIVERSITY PRIDE.   

NCCAA (National Christian College Athletic Association)

MASSACRES – The MARIAN UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS were less than gracious hosts to the JUDSON UNIVERSITY EAGLES, eviscerating them SEVENTY-SIX to SIX    ###    Elsewhere, the WEBBER INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY WARRIORS had a far less lopsided blowout of their own by winning 52-28 at the WARNER UNIVERSITY ROYALS.

GRUDGE MATCH – In this game the UNIVERSITY OF NORTHWESTERN (MN) EAGLES welcomed the GREENVILLE UNIVERSITY PANTHERS. Halftime found the Eagles clinging to a 14-13 edge but the 3rd Quarter ended with UNM way out in front 35-20. The Panthers rallied in the 4th but fell short as the Eagles triumphed 42-34. 

HOME AND AWAY – Home: The CONCORDIA (MI) CARDINALS, in their institution’s final football season, got an authoritative 31-10 victory over the LAWRENCE TECH BLUE DEVILS    ###    Away: The AVILA UNIVERSITY AVALANCHE (now the Eagles) visited the STERLING COLLEGE WARRIORS and handed them a 20-7 defeat.

FULL NELSON – The NELSON UNIVERSITY (formerly the Southwestern Assemblies of God University) LIONS took the field against the visiting OKLAHOMA PANHANDLE STATE AGGIES (should be Okies). A 14-0 1st Quarter lead for the Lions remained unchanged at the Half, but Panhandle State pulled to within 17-14 in the 3rd. From there Nelson U. won the game 31-21. 

NCAA DIVISION TWO

UPSETS IN THE RANKINGS – The UNIVERSITY OF CENTRAL MISSOURI MULES logged a 45-36 triumph at the 19th ranked EMPORIA STATE HORNETS    ###    While the LIVINGSTONE COLLEGE BLUE BEARS knocked the visiting number 25 JOHNSON C. SMITH UNIVERSITY GOLDEN BULLS out of the rankings by beating them 15-10.

WE WENT TO A FOOTBALL GAME BUT A BASEBALL GAME BROKE OUT – This game pitted the ARKANSAS TECH WONDERBOYS against their hosts the SOUTHEASTERN OKLAHOMA STATE SAVAGE STORM. The defenses ruled the day, with neither team scoring in the 1st Half. The Wonderboys put up a Field Goal in the 3rd and 4th Quarters for a 6-0 win.

ALL NAME GAMES – The SOUTHERN NAZARENE UNIVERSITY CRIMSON STORM welcomed the UNIVERSITY OF ARKANSAS AT MONTICELLO BOLL WEEVILS and edged them 24-21   ###   Elsewhere, the MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE CHOCTAWS sent the NORTHEASTERN STATE RIVERHAWKS home reeling from a 35-7 loss   ###   And the UNIVERSITY OF FINDLAY OILERS beat the NORTHWOOD UNIVERSITY TIMBERWOLVES 27-17.

DOGFIGHT – The ASSUMPTION UNIVERSITY GREYHOUNDS traveled to face the PACE UNIVERSITY SETTERS (Irish Setters). The Greyhounds parlayed their 7-0 1st Quarter advantage into a 14-7 lead come Halftime. Neither team managed any more points in the 2nd Half, so 14-7 held up as the final tally, too. 

NCAA DIVISION THREE

CLOSE CALL FOR NUMBER TWO – The 2nd ranked defending National Champions of D3 football – the CORTLAND STATE RED DRAGONS – got almost more than they could handle at the SUNY-BROCKPORT GOLDEN EAGLES. The Golden Eagles were up 21-17 at the Half, but Cortland State rallied from there. The 3rd Quarter ended with the Red Dragons trailing by just 21-20 before winning 29-28 in the 4th.

COOL NAME BOWLS – First, the COLBY COLLEGE WHITE MULES visited the BOWDOIN COLLEGE POLAR BEARS and smacked them down 34-10   ###   The CLAREMONT-MUDD-SCRIPPS COLLEGE STAGS defeated the visiting CAL LUTHERAN U. KINGSMEN 41-24   ###   And the LORAS UNIVERSITY DUHAWKS beat the NEBRASKA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY PRAIRIE WOLVES 32-22.

ONE-POINT WONDER – In this game the KNOX COLLEGE PRAIRIE FIRE – alma mater of Gene Rayburn – took it on the road against the LAWRENCE UNIVERSITY VIKINGS. By Halftime the Vikings were in the lead 14-7. The offenses exploded in the 2nd Half, with the Prairie Fire outscoring Lawrence 28-20 for a thrilling 35-34 victory.

COLONELS TRIUMPHANT – The CURRY COLLEGE COLONELS won 47-41 at the NICHOLS COLLEGE BISON   ###   Meanwhile, the WILKES UNIVERSITY COLONELS logged a 40-15 road win over the CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY CARDINALS   ###   And the CENTRE COLLEGE COLONELS spanked the RHODES UNIVERSITY LYNX 49-20.   

NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association)

EASY AS ONE, TWO, THREE – The number 1 IOWA WESTERN COLLEGE REIVERS won 59-10 at the ELLSWORTH COLLEGE PANTHERS   ###   The 2nd ranked GEORGIA MILITARY COLLEGE BULLDOGS won a 35-33 Instant Classic at the 9th ranked LACKAWANNA COLLEGE FALCONS   ###   And the number 3 HUTCHINSON COLLEGE BLUE DRAGONS shut out the HIGHLAND COLLEGE SCOTTIES 44-0.   

THRILLER – This game pitted the IOWA CENTRAL COLLEGE TRITONS against the visiting GARDEN CITY COLLEGE BRONCBUSTERS. The Broncbusters were on top 17-14 and 35-28 in the 1st and 2nd Quarters, respectively. In the 3rd, the Tritons went up 49-35 followed by a 4th Quarter Garden City rally falling short as ICC won 49-45.

THE COOLER TEAM NAME WINS – The NORTHEASTERN OKLAHOMA A&M GOLDEN NORSEMEN won 20-10 over their guests the KILGORE COLLEGE RANGERS   ###   Meanwhile, the COFFEYVILLE COLLEGE RED RAVENS held serve 24-7 over the INDEPENDENCE COLLEGE PIRATES   ###   And the CISCO COLLEGE WRANGLERS won 19-11 at the BLINN COLLEGE BUCCANEERS.

UH OH, BETTER BEAT THE MAKOS! – I feel old just remembering that vintage commercial, but never mind. The CENTRAL GEORGIA TECHNICAL COLLEGE TITANS took the field against the visiting LIGHTHOUSE CHRISTIAN COLLEGE MAKOS. The Titans held the edge throughout the game and the finale saw them defeat the Makos 46-29.

CCCAA (California Community College Athletic Association)

TOP TEAMS ROLL – The (1) MT. SAN ANTONIO COLLEGE MOUNTIES crushed the LONG BEACH COLLEGE VIKINGS (should be Beachcombers) 44-14   ###   The (2) RIVERSIDE CITY COLLEGE TIGERS struck down the (6) SAN DIEGO MESA COLLEGE OLYMPIANS 62-42   ###   And the (3) COLLEGE OF SAN MATEO BULLDOGS obliterated the SAN JOAQUIN DELTA MUSTANGS 61-7. 

UNDER THE RADAR CLASSIC – This game pitted the CITY COLLEGE OF SANTA BARBARA VAQUEROS against the home standing MOORPARK COLLEGE RAIDERS. Moorpark led 12-7 in the opening Quarter, but the Vaqueros were on top 17-12 by Halftime. After the break, SBCC managed a bit more separation from the Raiders for a 26-20 triumph.

A TALE OF TWO JAGUARS TEAMS – The SAN JOSE CITY COLLEGE JAGUARS kept the visiting GAVILAN COLLEGE RAMS off the scoreboard until the 4th Quarter in a 32-3 beatdown    ###   And while that was going on, the SOUTHWESTERN (CA) COLLEGE JAGUARS lost 31-14 to their guests the PALOMAR COLLEGE COMETS.

HAPPY HOMESTAND – The SANTA ANA COLLEGE DONS played host to the CHAFFEY COLLEGE PANTHERS yesterday. The Dons led 7-6 in the 1st Quarter and 14-13 at Halftime. That became 24-13 in the 3rd Quarter, but the 4th saw Santa Ana College finish off the Panthers by a final tally of 31-22.
