BALLADEER’S BLOG: COLLEGE FOOTBALL – OCT 20th EDITION

HEADLINES

KNOCKING OFF NUMBER ONE – In NCAA Division Two, the 11th ranked OUACHITA BAPTIST UNIVERSITY TIGERS played host to the nation’s number 1 team – the HARDING UNIVERSITY BISON. A 7-7 1st Quarter tie became a 13-10 Halftime edge for the Bison. After the break, the Tigers scored the only points of the 2nd Half to win the game 17-13.

DOWN GOES NUMBER SIX – In NCAA Division Three, the 16th ranked UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN AT OSHKOSH TITANS took the field against the visiting number 6 WISCONSIN-PLATTEVILLE PIONEERS. The Pioneers were on top 10-3 by the break, but the 3rd Quarter ended in a 17-10 Titans lead. The 4th saw UW-Oshkosh triumph 24-17.

NUMBER SEVEN TAKES A FALL – Back up in D2, the CALIFORNIA (PA) VULCANS welcomed the number 7 team in the land – the SLIPPERY ROCK UNIVERSITY ROCK. The Vulcans led 7-0 in the opening Quarter and 17-7 at the Half. From there Cal (PA) shut out the Rock while adding 11 more points for a 28-7 Upset win.

ANOTHER NUMBER SEVEN FALLS – Down in D3, the WASHINGTON & JEFFERSON COLLEGE PRESIDENTS were at home against the 7th ranked GROVE CITY COLLEGE WOLVERINES. The 1st Quarter ended in a 6-6 tie before the Presidents went up 20-16 by Halftime. The defenses shone after the break as Washington & Jefferson got a 27-19 victory.

CENTURY CLUB IN FOOTBALL? – The NAIA’s MONTANA TECH OREDIGGERS logged nearly 100 points against the visiting SIMPSON UNIVERSITY RED HAWKS. A 43-0 lead to end the opening Quarter was only the beginning as the Orediggers folded, spindled and mutilated Simpson U. to the tune of NINETY-SEVEN to NOTHING! My advice to the Red Hawks – burn the game tape and deny ever having been in the state of Montana.

THREE IN A ROW? – In this game, the NSAC’s ATLANTIS UNIVERSITY ATLANTEANS won their third game in a row as they hosted the SW COMMUNITY CHRISTIAN COLLEGE RAMS. The Atlanteans dominated their opponents on both sides of the ball, and when all of the dust settled Atlantis University improved to 5-4 with a 25-2 win.

NAIA VS NCAA DIVISION THREE – This week’s only game from this rivalry saw D3’s ROSE-HULMAN INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY FIGHTIN’ ENGINEERS welcome the NAIA’s DEFIANCE COLLEGE YELLOW JACKETS. The Fightin’ Engineers won 29-25, so at present the NAIA has won 2 weeks, D3 has won 2 weeks and 1 week ended in a tie.
