HEADLINES

DOWN GOES NUMBER TWO – In the NAIA the CONCORDIA (NE) BULLDOGS visited the number 2 team in the nation – the NORTHWESTERN (IA) COLLEGE RED RAIDERS. A 7-0 1st Quarter lead for the Red Raiders turned into a 7-7 tie by Halftime. From there the Bulldogs outscored Northwestern College 22-10 to win this Upset 29-17.

KNOCKING OFF NUMBER FOUR – Over in NCAA Division Two the UNIVERSITY OF SIOUX FALLS COUGARS took it on the road against the 4th ranked MINNESOTA STATE MAVERICKS. At the Half the Cougars led 23-9, but the Mavericks cut that to a 30-23 edge in the 3rd Quarter. USF finalized the Upset in the 4th 40-36.   

NUMBER SEVEN TAKES A FALL – Staying in Division Two the COLORADO MESA UNIVERSITY MAVERICKS played host to the country’s number 7 COLORADO SCHOOL OF MINES OREDIGGERS. This tale of two Halves saw the Orediggers leading 7-0 in the 1st and 13-0 in the 2nd. The Mavericks scored 14 points in the 4th Quarter to win out 14-13.

KNOCKING OFF ANOTHER NUMBER SEVEN – Back in the NAIA the number 16 MONTANA TECH OREDIGGERS welcomed the 7th ranked SOUTHERN OREGON UNIVERSITY RAIDERS (should be Sea Gulls). By the midpoint of the game the Orediggers were on top 28-14. The 3rd Quarter ended with Montana Tech up 35-21 and the 4th in a 42-35 victory for the Orediggers.

ONE-POINT WONDER – Over in NCAA Division Two the storied HILLSDALE COLLEGE CHARGERS traveled to face the NORTHWOOD UNIVERSITY TIMBERWOLVES. The Timberwolves grabbed a 3-0 edge in the opening Quarter, but the Chargers took a 14-6 lead by the break. Northwood University scored the only points of the 2nd Half, but Hillsdale still won 14-13.

Tuskegee Golden TigersCATFIGHT – Two famous college football programs collided in this game as the TUSKEGEE UNIVERSITY GOLDEN TIGERS welcomed the MOREHOUSE COLLEGE MAROON TIGERS. The lopsided affair saw the Golden Tigers leading 3-0, 13-0 and 27-0 in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Quarters, respectively. The 4th ended in a 42-0 Tuskegee shutout of the Maroon Tigers.

defiance college yellow jacketsNAIA OVER D3 – This was the only game in this rivalry yesterday as the DEFIANCE COLLEGE YELLOW JACKETS hosted the MANCHESTER (IN) SPARTANS. The Yellow Jackets kept Manchester off the scoreboard every Quarter except the 3rd while piling on the points themselves. A 21-0 Halftime advantage ended as a 35-3 Defiance College win.

*** The NAIA has won 2 weeks, D3 has won 1 and one week ended in a tie.

NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics)

UNDER THE RADAR CLASSICS – The TABOR COLLEGE BLUEJAYS won 34-33 at the BETHEL (KS) THRESHERS   ###   Meanwhile, the TEXAS COLLEGE STEERS defeated the NORTH AMERICAN UNIVERSITY STALLIONS 25-21   ###   The MAYVILLE STATE COMETS got a 13-12 road win over the DAKOTA STATE TROJANS   ###   And the WILLIAM PENN UNIVERSITY STATESMEN beat the ST. AMBROSE UNIVERSITY FIGHTING BEES 33-28.

COSMIC SHUTOUT – In this game the (3) GRAND VIEW UNIVERSITY VIKINGS (should be Zebras) took the field against the visiting CLARKE UNIVERSITY PRIDE. Grand View U. proceeded to fold, spindle and mutilate the Pride, holding a 48-0 lead at the Half and ultimately polishing off their opponents by a final tally of EIGHTY-NINE to NOTHING.

HOMECOMING GAMES – The BETHANY COLLEGE SWEDES welcomed the OTTAWA (KS) BRAVES and won a 13-0 affair   ###   Elsewhere, the MISSOURI BAPTIST UNIVERSITY SPARTANS ruined Homecoming for the CENTRAL METHODIST UNIVERSITY EAGLES 30-14   ###   And the BLUEFIELD COLLEGE RAMBLING RAMS did the same for the UNION COMMONWEALTH BULLDOGS 20-7.

DOUBLING UP ON THE COMPETITION – The AVE MARIA UNIVERSITY GYRENES played host to the THOMAS UNIVERSITY NIGHTHAWKS. This odd gridiron clash saw the Gyrenes leading 14-0 in the 1st Quarter and 28-7 at Halftime. The Nighthawks shut out AMU from there, but still lost to them by a score of 28-14.

NCCAA (National Christian College Athletic Association)

HAPPY HOME STANDS – The POINT UNIVERSITY SKYHAWKS beat the KENTUCKY CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS in a 30-22 thriller   ###   The TAYLOR UNIVERSITY TROJANS won 58-36 over the UNIVERSITY OF ST. FRANCIS (IN) COUGARS   ###   And the FRIENDS UNIVERSITY FALCONS clobbered the STERLING COLLEGE WARRIORS 59-14.   

VICTORY IS GOLDEN – In this game the GENEVA COLLEGE GOLDEN TORNADOES traveled to face the ST. VINCENT COLLEGE BEARCATS. A 7-7 1st Quarter tie became a 13-13 deadlock at the midpoint. After the break the defenses continued to dominate, but Geneva College managed a Field Goal in the 3rd Quarter for a 16-13 triumph.

ROAD WARRIORS – The OTTAWA UNIVERSITY (AZ) SPIRIT took it on the road against the WAYLAND BAPTIST UNIVERSITY PIONEERS (should be Flying Ws) and handed them a 42-28 loss    ###    And the CONCORDIA (MI) CARDINALS, in their final season of intercollegiate sports, won 45-6 at the JUDSON UNIVERSITY EAGLES.       

ASSERTING THEIR AUTHORITY – The GREENVILLE UNIVERSITY PANTHERS did battle with their hosts, the WESTMINSTER (MO) BLUE JAYS. Despite the Blue Jays leading 7-0 in the opening Quarter, the Panthers went on top 14-7 by Halftime. From there, Greenville got more and more separation to win the game 35-14.

NCAA DIVISION TWO

OTHER UPSETS IN THE RANKINGS – The EMORY & HENRY COLLEGE WASPS toppled the number 11 LENOIR-RHYNE UNIVERSITY BEARS 31-20   ###   Meanwhile, the FORT HAYS STATE TIGERS defeated the 13th ranked UNIVERSITY OF CENTRAL MISSOURI MULES 31-21   ###   And the NORTHERN STATE WOLVES edged the number 16 BEMIDJI STATE BEAVERS 14-13.

WORKING OVERTIME – Four Quarters weren’t enough for the (22) UNIVERSITY OF INDIANAPOLIS GREYHOUNDS and their hosts, the WILLIAM JEWELL UNIVERSITY CARDINALS. The Greyhounds were on top 14-7 at Halftime, but the Cardinals forced OT with a 17-17 tie to end the 4th Quarter. In the extra session the University of Indianapolis managed a 23-20 win.

ALL NAME GAMES – The KENTUCKY STATE THOROBREDS survived a 24-20 visit from the LANE COLLEGE DRAGONS   ###   Elsewhere, the SOUTHERN ARKANSAS UNIVERSITY MULERIDERS crushed the SOUTHERN NAZARENE UNIVERSITY CRIMSON STORM 49-21   ###   And the UNIVERSITY OF WEST FLORIDA ARGONAUTS blanked the MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE CHOCTAWS 31-0.

LINCOLN ON LINCOLN VIOLENCE – This game pitted the LINCOLN UNIVERSITY (MO) BLUE TIGERS against the visiting LINCOLN UNIVERSITY (CA) OAKLANDERS. The Blue Tigers were up 14-0 in the 1st Quarter and 21-6 come Halftime. After the break, Lincoln (MO) outscored the Oaklanders 19-8 for a 40-14 blowout.

NCAA DIVISION THREE

UPSETS IN THE RANKINGS – The only Upset in the D3 rankings came in the game between the 24th ranked UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN AT PLATTEVILLE PIONEERS and the home standing number 3 UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN AT LACROSSE EAGLES. A 24-24 tie to end the 4th Quarter was followed by a 30-27 Overtime victory by the Pioneers.

TIGHT SHAVES – The NORTH CAROLINA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY BISHOPS survived a 19-17 clash with the visiting METHODIST UNIVERSITY MONARCHS   ###   Meanwhile, the COLBY COLLEGE WHITE MULES edged the BATES COLLEGE BOBCATS 28-26   ###   And the URSINUS COLLEGE BEARS won a 53-50 shootout at the MUHLENBERG COLLEGE MULES. 

THE HYPHEN BOWL – The CLAREMONT-MUDD-SCRIPPS COLLEGE STAGS found themselves on the road against the POMONA-PITZER COLLEGE SAGEHENS. The Stags led 14-0 in the opening Quarter and 20-7 at the Half. From there the Sagehens logged the only 2nd Half points but Claremont-Mudd-Scripps still won 20-14.

SHUTOUTS – The UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND NOR’EASTERS made the DEAN COLLEGE BULLDOGS their prison brides to the tune of SIXTY-EIGHT to NOTHING   ###   Elsewhere, the WASHINGTON & LEE UNIVERSITY GENERALS triumphed 35-0 over the AVERETT UNIVERSITY COUGARS   ###   And the LAKE FOREST COLLEGE FORESTERS hammered the KNOX COLLEGE PRAIRIE FIRE 42-0.

NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association)

Hutchinson Blue DragonsEASY AS ONE, TWO, THREE – The nation’s number 1 team – the HUTCHINSON COLLEGE BLUE DRAGONS – eviscerated the visiting 14th ranked DODGE CITY COLLEGE CONQUISTADORS 42-0    ###    Elsewhere, the 2nd ranked IOWA WESTERN COLLEGE REIVERS faced their guests, the number 3 SNOW COLLEGE BADGERS, and defeated them 31-20.

Coffeyville Red Ravens helmetTUSSLE IN THE TOP TEN – This game saw the COFFEYVILLE COLLEGE RED RAVENS take the field against the visiting 10th ranked HIGHLAND COLLEGE SCOTTIES. The Red Ravens grabbed a 10-3 lead by the end of the 1st Quarter, then proceeded to leave the Scotties further and further behind. When the dust settled, Coffeyville College had triumphed 33-17.   

central georgia technical college titansBATTLE OF THE NEWBIES – The two brand-new intercollegiate teams in the NJCAA – the CENTRAL GEORGIA TECHNICAL COLLEGE TITANS and their guests the ANDREW COLLEGE FIGHTING TIGERS – squared off in this game. The Titans led 15-0 come Halftime, with neither team scoring again until the Fighting Tigers notched 8 points in the 4th Quarter in this 15-8 Central Georgia win.

Tyler College Apaches helmet NEWHOME AND AWAY – The home standing TYLER COLLEGE APACHES hosted the NEW MEXICO MILITARY INSTITUTE BRONCOS (should be the Cavalry) and defeated them by a final count of 21-10    ###    And for the “away” portion of this entry, the (13) CISCO COLLEGE WRANGLERS won 42-35 at the NORTHEASTERN OKLAHOMA A&M GOLDEN NORSEMEN.

CCCAA (California Community College Athletic Association)

San Mateo BulldogsUPSETS IN THE RANKINGS – The number 6 team in the division – the COLLEGE OF SAN MATEO BULLDOGS – toppled the 3rd ranked FRESNO CITY COLLEGE RAMS in a 14-7 defensive struggle   ###    And the 14th ranked SADDLEBACK COLLEGE BOBCATS visited the number 5 SAN DIEGO MESA COLLEGE OLYMPIANS and snuck past them 26-24.   

Monterey Peninsula LobosFOUR QUARTERS WEREN’T ENOUGH – In this game the MONTEREY PENINSULA COLLEGE LOBOS found themselves on the road against the COLLEGE OF THE SISKIYOUS EAGLES (should be Riverhawks). The teams went blow for blow, with the 4th Quarter ending in a 17-17 tie. In Overtime the Lobos emerged with a 24-17 triumph.

Golden West College RustlersSMACKDOWNS – The (8) GOLDEN WEST COLLEGE RUSTLERS won easily 45-7 at the CITRUS COLLEGE OWLS   ###   Meanwhile, the PALOMAR COLLEGE COMETS crushed their hosts the GROSSMONT COLLEGE GRIFFINS 44-3   ###   And the (10) COLLEGE OF THE CANYONS COUGARS mauled the home standing ANTELOPE VALLEY COLLEGE MARAUDERS 48-7.

Shasta College Knights helmet NEWOFF THE SCHNEID – The SHASTA COLLEGE KNIGHTS at last notched their first victory of the 2024 season. It came against the visiting DIABLO VALLEY COLLEGE VIKINGS (should be the Green Devils). Diablo Valley was on top 7-3 to end the 1st Quarter, but the Knights were up 10-7 at the Half. From there, Shasta College went on to a 22-15 win.
