HEADLINES

CAMPBELLSVILLE OVER D2 – In this game the NAIA’s CAMPBELLSVILLE UNIVERSITY TIGERS welcomed NCAA Division Two’s ROOSEVELT UNIVERSITY LAKERS. The Tigers kept the higher division team off the scoreboard until the 4th Quarter while putting up points themselves all the way. The final score in this Upset was Campbellsville University 24  Lakers 8.

BOBCATS CONQUER DIVISION ONE – Meanwhile, NCAA Division Two’s FROSTBURG STATE BOBCATS took it on the road against the NCAA Division One MERCYHURST UNIVERSITY LAKERS. The Bobcats put Mercyhurst on Upset Alert by Halftime with their 17-12 lead. From there Frostburg State had to hold on by their fingertips for a 25-24 victory.

NUMBER FOUR TAKES A FALL – Back in the NAIA the 14th ranked SOUTHERN OREGON UNIVERSITY RAIDERS (should be Sea Gulls) played host to the number 4 team in the nation – the UNIVERSITY OF MONTANA-WESTERN BULLDOGS. SOU led 14-10 at the break and 28-13 to end the 3rd Quarter. In the 4th they withstood a Bulldogs rally to win the game 28-26.

NINETY-NINE – The number 1 team in the NJCAA – the HUTCHINSON COLLEGE BLUE DRAGONS – made their guests the ELLSWORTH COLLEGE PANTHERS their prison brides in this game. The Blue Dragons grabbed a quick 24-0 lead in the opening Quarter and never looked back from there. By the end of the game Hutchinson College had eviscerated the Panthers NINETY-NINE to NOTHING!

TOPPLING NUMBER TEN – The NAIA’s number 19 COLLEGE OF IDAHO COYOTES faced the visiting 10th ranked MONTANA TECH OREDIGGERS. A 6-3 1st Quarter edge for the Yotes became 13-10 by the midpoint. The 2nd Half ended with the Orediggers knotting things up 37-37. In Overtime the College of Idaho put up 8 points then stopped Montana Tech for a 45-37 win.

UNSUNG CLASSIC – The LOUISBURG COLLEGE HURRICANES paid a visit to the NEWPORT NEWS APPRENTICE SCHOOL BUILDERS (Shipbuilders). Halftime found the Builders on top 17-14, with the 3rd Quarter ending in a 31-21 lead for the Apprentice School. In the 4th the Hurricanes shut out the Builders and pulled off a last minute 34-31 victory. 

OFF THE SCHNEID – Managing their 1st victories for the 2024 season were the UNIVERSITY OF ST. MARY SPIRES as they won 35-22 against the BETHANY COLLEGE SWEDES    ###    And the SIENA HEIGHTS UNIVERSITY SAINTS, who got a 52-7 road win over the DEFIANCE COLLEGE YELLOW JACKETS.  

NAIA VS NCAA D3

D3 OVER NAIA – The WILLAMETTE UNIVERSITY BEARCATS snuck past the NAIA’s visiting SIMPSON UNIVERSITY REDHAWKS by a score of 21-18    ###    And D3’s 7th ranked HARDIN-SIMMONS UNIVERSITY COWBOYS folded, spindled and mutilated the NORTH AMERICAN UNIVERSITY STALLIONS to the tune of 90-0!

*** The NAIA’s win over a D2 team counts for two, so this week they and D3 have a 2 games to 2 tie. For the season the NAIA won a week, D3 won a week and now we have this tie. 

NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics)

CLOSE CALL FOR NUMBER SEVEN – In this game the 7th ranked MARIAN UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS traveled to face the TAYLOR UNIVERSITY TROJANS. The 1st Half ended in a 14-14 tie and the 4th Quarter in a 28-28 deadlock. In Overtime a missed PAT was the difference as the Knights scored 7 points to the 6 from the Trojans, winning out 35-34.

SHUTOUTS – The (20) MIDAMERICA NAZARENE UNIVERSITY PIONEERS logged a massive road win at the ST. AMBROSE UNIVERSITY FIGHTING BEES 42-0   ###   Elsewhere, the UNIVERSITY OF THE CUMBERLANDS PATRIOTS won 28-0 over the UNION COMMONWEALTH BULLDOGS   ###   And the (21) FRIENDS UNIVERSITY FALCONS beat the TABOR COLLEGE BLUE JAYS 24-0 in their own house.

WHEN RANKED TEAMS CLASH – This game pitted the number 13 BENEDICTINE COLLEGE RAVENS against the visiting 16th ranked BAKER UNIVERSITY WILDCATS. The Ravens led 10-0 in the 1st Quarter and 24-14 at Halftime. A scoreless 3rd Quarter was followed by a tense 4th in which Benedictine College barely survived a Wildcats rally 27-24.

UNDER THE RADAR CLASSICS – The MAYVILLE STATE COMETS triumphed over the VALLEY CITY STATE VIKINGS 16-10   ###   Meanwhile, the MIDLAND UNIVERSITY WARRIORS survived a 21-20 visit from the DAKOTA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY TIGERS   ###   And the EASTERN OREGON UNIVERSITY MOUNTAINEERS won 23-20 at the ROCKY MOUNTAIN COLLEGE BATTLIN’ BEARS.

NCCAA (National Christian College Athletic Association)

UNHAPPY HOMECOMING – The SOUTHWESTERN COLLEGE MOUNDBUILDERS ruined Homecoming for the STERLING COLLEGE WARRIORS. The Moundbuilders parlayed their 7-0 1st Quarter lead into a 28-7 advantage at the Half. After the break Southwestern College glided to a 42-7 beatdown of the Warriors.

DEATON FIELD DONNYBROOK – Up next the ST. XAVIER UNIVERSITY COUGARS welcomed the CONCORDIA (MI) CARDINALS, who are in their program’s final season. (The university is ending all intercollegiate sports after the 2024-2025 season.) The Cougars were in control all game, with a 14-point 4th Quarter for the Cardinals reducing their loss to just 27-17. 

DEFENSIVE PERFECTION – In this game the SOUTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY FIRE took the field against the visiting UNIVERSITY OF FORT LAUDERDALE EAGLES (should be Flamingos). The Fire led 14-0, 20-0 and 30-0 in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Quarters respectively. The 4th saw Southeastern U. preserve their defensive perfection with a 37-0 victory.

NO CLOSE GAMES YESTERDAY – Keeping the blowout pattern going, the LAWRENCE TECH BLUE DEVILS played host to the JUDSON UNIVERSITY EAGLES. This was one of the most lopsided games of the day as the Blue Devils compiled a 42-12 advantage by the midpoint. From there Lawrence Tech coasted to a 77-18 blowout win.

NCAA DIVISION TWO

UPSETS IN THE RANKINGS – The NORTHWEST MISSOURI STATE BEARCATS knocked off the 15th ranked EMPORIA STATE HORNETS 14-9   ###   The SAGINAW VALLEY STATE CARDINALS won 28-24 at the number 14 UNIVERSITY OF INDIANAPOLIS GREYHOUNDS   ###   And the MSU-MOORHEAD DRAGONS survived a 43-41 visit from the 19th ranked AUGUSTANA (SD) VIKINGS.

DIRECTIONAL RIVALRY – This game pitted the SOUTHEASTERN OKLAHOMA STATE SAVAGE STORM against the home standing NORTHWESTERN OKLAHOMA STATE RANGERS. It was a tale of 2 Halves as the Savage Storm built up a 20-0 advantage by Halftime, but then had to hold on to survive a furious Rangers rally. The final score was SOSU 27  NOSU 21.

ALL NAME GAMES – The CALIFORNIA UNIVERSITY OF PENNSYLVANIA VULCANS squared up on the visiting GANNON UNIVERSITY GOLDEN KNIGHTS 49-7   ###   Meanwhile, the (11) UNIVERSITY OF CENTRAL MISSOURI MULES defeated the UNIVERSITY OF NEBRASKA-KEARNEY LOPERS 36-35   ###   And the WASHBURN UNIVERSITY ICHABODS won 24-16 at the UM-WESTERN GRIFFONS.

ONE-POINT WONDER – The LIVINGSTONE COLLEGE BLUE BEARS found themselves on the road against the LINCOLN (PA) LIONS. The Lions led 7-3 in the 1st Quarter and 14-9 come Halftime. The Blue Bears went on top of Lincoln University 15-14 in the 3rd Quarter and that held up as the final tally as well.

NCAA DIVISION THREE

UPSETS IN THE RANKINGS – The only Upset in the D3 rankings yesterday came in the game between the HOPE COLLEGE FLYING DUTCHMEN and their hosts, the number 16 ALMA COLLEGE SCOTS. A 7-0 1st Quarter lead for the Flying Dutchmen became 24-0 at the Half. From there the Scots outscored Hope College 13-10 as the Flying Dutchmen won 34-13.

ROAD RAGE – The ST. OLAF COLLEGE OLES shut out the home standing MACALESTER COLLEGE SCOTS 29-0   ###   Elsewhere, the CLAREMONT-MUDD-SCRIPPS COLLEGE STAGS clobbered their hosts the CAL LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY KINGSMEN 31-13   ###   And the POMONA-PITZER COLLEGE SAGEHENS won 27-20 at the UNIVERSITY OF LA VERNE LEOPARDS.

CLOSE CALL FOR NUMBER FIFTEEN – The 15th ranked CARNEGIE MELLON UNIVERSITY TARTANS got almost more than they could handle at the WASHINGTON & JEFFERSON COLLEGE PRESIDENTS. The Presidents seemed in charge at Halftime with a 24-5 lead but the Tartans forced OT with a 24-24 tie. In the extra session Carnegie Mellon triumphed 30-27. 

THE COOLER TEAM NAME WINS – The “perfidious” ALBION COLLEGE BRITONS (Napoleon buffs will get it) tripled up on the home standing TRINE UNIVERSITY THUNDER 42-14   ###   The BOWDOIN COLLEGE POLAR BEARS beat the HAMILTON COLLEGE CONTINENTALS 28-21   ###   And the TRINITY (CT) BANTAMS annihilated the WILLIAMS COLLEGE EPHS (“eephs”) 45-14.

NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association)

KNOCKING OFF NUMBER FOUR – The CISCO COLLEGE WRANGLERS hosted the number 4 team in the nation – the KILGORE COLLEGE RANGERS. Kilgore College was up 7-0 in the opening Quarter but the Wranglers led 21-14 by Halftime. The 3rd Quarter ended with Cisco College up 27-20 and the 4th in a 35-30 Wranglers victory. 

WHY DON’T WE DO IT ON THE ROAD? – In a battle of ranked teams the (3) SNOW COLLEGE BADGERS won 21-14 at the (12) BUTLER (KS) GRIZZLIES   ###   Elsewhere, the TYLER COLLEGE APACHES logged a 23-13 road win over the NORTHEASTERN OKLAHOMA A&M GOLDEN NORSEMEN   ###   And the (6) GEORGIA MILITARY COLLEGE BULLDOGS trounced the MONROE COLLEGE MUSTANGS 45-20.

SHUTOUT – The MESABI RANGE COLLEGE NORSE traveled to take on the CENTRAL LAKES COLLEGE AT BRAINERD RAIDERS (should be Brainstorms). A 7-0 opening Quarter lead for the Norse turned into a 14-0 advantage by the midpoint. After the break Mesabi Range College added 13 more points to win the game by a final count of 27-0. 

UNDER THE RADAR CLASSICS – The DODGE CITY COLLEGE CONQUISTADORS welcomed the IOWA CENTRAL COLLEGE TRITONS and eked out a tight 25-24 win over them    ###    And the HOCKING COLLEGE HAWKS needed Overtime against the visiting NASSAU COUNTY COLLEGE LIONS as they defeated them 27-21 in the extra session.

CCCAA (California Community College Athletic Association)

EASY AS ONE, TWO, THREE – The number 1 MOUNT SAN ANTONIO COLLEGE MOUNTIES mauled the CITRUS COLLEGE OWLS by a final score of 41-20    ###    And in this next game the number 2 BUTTE COLLEGE ROADRUNNERS welcomed the number 3 MODESTO COLLEGE PIRATES. The Roadrunners won big 34-14.

NUMBER TEN TAKES A FALL – The MOUNT SAN JACINTO COLLEGE EAGLES took the field against the visiting 10th ranked FULLERTON COLLEGE HORNETS. By Halftime the Eagles had doubled up on Fullerton College 28-14. From there the Hornets managed a bit of a rally but wound up falling short as MSJC triumphed 35-28.

HOME AND AWAY – Home: The BAKERSFIELD COLLEGE RENEGADES crushed the ANTELOPE VALLEY COLLEGE MARAUDERS 56-7 & the SAN DIEGO MESA COLLEGE OLYMPIANS beat the GROSSMONT COLLEGE GRIFFINS 40-14.   Away: The PIERCE COLLEGE BRAHMA BULLS won 35-29 at the COLLEGE OF THE DESERT ROADRUNNERS & the GOLDEN WEST COLLEGE RUSTLERS won 49-7 at the EAST LOS ANGELES COLLEGE HUSKIES. 

ONE TEAM WAS PLAYING BASKETBALL – This game pitted the GLENDALE COLLEGE VAQUEROS against their hosts the COMPTON COLLEGE TARTARS. The Vaqueros utterly dominated the hapless Tartars on both sides of the ball. When the dust had settled, Glendale College had triumphed to the tune of SEVENTY to SIXTEEN!
