COLLEGE FOOTBALL RESULTS FROM AUGUST 31st

NOTE: After this holiday weekend I’ll go back to football posts ONLY ONE DAY A WEEK for you readers who aren’t into sports. I’ll relocate WNBA coverage to just one separate weekday as well.

NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics)

Benedictine RavensDOWN GOES NUMBER TEN – The 19th ranked BENEDICTINE COLLEGE RAVENS played the number 10 MORNINGSIDE UNIVERSITY MUSTANGS in their own house. The 1st Quarter ended with the Ravens up 21-3, and they would need all those points. The Mustangs pulled to within 28-17 at the Half and 35-30 in the 3rd Quarter before Benedictine held on in the 4th to win it 48-45.  

CUMBERLAND ON THE ROAD – The CUMBERLAND UNIVERSITY PHOENIX traveled to face the MISSOURI BAPTIST UNIVERSITY SPARTANS. The opening Half of this game was deceptive as the Phoenix led by a score of 28-3 by the midpoint. After the break, the Spartans made it a whole different game, pulling to within 28-25 to end the 3rd Quarter, but Cumberland U. held on in the 4th for a 35-28 win.  

UNDER THE RADAR THRILLER – This game pitted the AVILA UNIVERSITY AVALANCHE (now the Eagles) against the visiting BETHANY COLLEGE SWEDES. The Avalanche seized a quick 7-0 1st Quarter lead, following which neither team scored again until after the break. The Swedes tied things up at 7-7 in the 3rd Quarter, and an action-packed 4th saw Avila triumph 24-21. 

SHUTOUT FOR NUMBER SIX – The 6th ranked INDIANA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY WILDCATS took it on the road against the MADONNA UNIVERSITY CRUSADERS. The Wildcats converted a 21-0 lead in the opening Quarter into a 38-0 advantage by Halftime. From there, Indiana Wesleyan coasted to a 59-0 victory.

evangel valor helmetCLASH OF RANKED TEAMS – This game pitted the number 14 EVANGEL UNIVERSITY VALOR against their hosts the 24th ranked KANSAS WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY COYOTES. The Coyotes were on top 17-14 at the Half, but after the break the Valor roared from behind to win the game by a final tally of 35-24.

saint-ambrose-university-fighting-bees-helmet-newWORKIN’ OVERTIME – Four Quarters weren’t enough for the ST. AMBROSE UNIVERSITY FIGHTING BEES and the visiting BRIAR CLIFF UNIVERSITY CHARGERS. A 7-0 midway lead for the Fighting Bees became a mere 14-13 edge to end the 3rd Quarter. The Chargers forced OT with a 21-21 4th Quarter tie and the extra session ended with SAU winning 28-21.

bluefield college other wayRAMBLING MEN – Up next the BLUEFIELD COLLEGE RAMBLING RAMS faced the home standing THOMAS UNIVERSITY NIGHT HAWKS. The Rambling Rams led the Night Hawks by a score of 7-3 in the 1st and 21-10 at the midpoint. After the break, Bluefield College added separation for a 35-17 triumph.

Texas College Steers helmet NEWROAD WARRIORS – The TEXAS COLLEGE STEERS traveled to take on the CENTRAL METHODIST UNIVERSITY EAGLES and logged a 26-15 victory for themselves    ###    And the PERU STATE BOBCATS went on to win 27-21 at the HASTINGS COLLEGE BRONCOS.

ONE WORD: STUNG! – In this game the GRACELAND UNIVERSITY YELLOW JACKETS visited the DOANE UNIVERSITY TIGERS. The 14-8 lead for the Yellow Jackets to end the 1st Quarter was the closest that the Tigers got. At the Half, Graceland University led 28-8 and kept up the pressure the rest of the way, winning out 49-11.

College of Idaho Coyotes NEW HELMETMAKING HISTORY – The (4) COLLEGE OF IDAHO COYOTES welcomed the SIMPSON UNIVERSITY REDHAWKS, who were playing their FIRST EVER intercollegiate football game. The inexperience of the Redhawks showed, as the Coyotes notched a work of defensive perfection in a 65-0 blowout.

mount marty lancers helmetTRIPLING UP ON THE COMPETITION – The MOUNT MARTY UNIVERSITY LANCERS took it on the road against the CULVER-STOCKTON COLLEGE WILDCATS. The Lancers led by a score of 13-0 in the opening Quarter and never looked back on their way to a 42-14 smackdown of Culver-Stockton College.

Southeastern Fire helmet REALSHUTOUTS – The SOUTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY FIRE sent the visiting FAULKNER UNIVERSITY EAGLES (should be Fury) back home reeling from a 34-0 butt-kicking    ###    And the SOUTHWESTERN COLLEGE MOUNDBUILDERS eviscerated their hosts the OTTAWA (KS) BRAVES to the tune of 41-0. 

NCCAA (National Christian College Athletic Association)

THREE VS FOUR – The (BB3) OLIVET NAZARENE UNIVERSITY TIGERS (should be Purple Tigers) took on the home standing (BB4) CONCORDIA (MI) CARDINALS. The Tigers led Concordia U. 7-0, 14-0, and 21-7 in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Quarters, respectively. The 4th ended in a 35-14 triumph for Olivet Nazarene University.

KNIGHTS VS GLADIATORS – The (BB15) KENTUCKY CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS were on the road against the SOUTH CAROLINA CENTRAL CHRISTIAN COLLEGE GLADIATORS. The Knights, from the Appalachian Athletic Conference, dominated on both sides of the ball against the New South Athletic Conference’s Gladiators. The final score was Knights 35  Gladiators 12.

Bethel (KS) ThreshersCRASHING THE PARTY – In this game the BETHEL (KS) THRESHERS were less than gracious guests as they spoiled Warrior Fest for the STERLING COLLEGE WARRIORS. Points were tough to come by, with the Threshers leading 7-0 by the Half and ultimately winning out by a score of 13-0.

NCAA DIVISION TWO

Pittsburg State GorillasA TUSSLE IN THE TOP FOUR – All eyes were on the battle between the number 4 team in the nation – the PITTSBURG (KS) STATE GORILLAS – and the visiting 3rd ranked FERRIS STATE BULLDOGS. The Gorillas only gave up 3 points in the 2nd Quarter while scoring 3, 3, 10 and 3 points in the 1st to 4th Quarters for a 19-3 triumph.

A “W” FOR E&H – The EMORY & HENRY COLLEGE WASPS welcomed the GLENVILLE STATE PIONEERS for this game. The Wasps kept their opponents off the scoreboard in every Quarter but the 3rd. Their 17-0 Halftime advantage over the Pioneers became 31-7 in the 3rd and a 38-7 blowout win in the 4th.

THIS GAME WAS FOR THE BIRDS – The WILLIAM JEWELL COLLEGE CARDINALS visited the FORT LEWIS COLLEGE SKYHAWKS. A 14-3 1st Quarter lead for the Cardinals turned into a 21-10 tally by the Half. In the 3rd Quarter, William Jewell College extended their lead over the Skyhawks to 28-13. That held up as the final score as well.

BEAR NECESSITIES – The SHAW UNIVERSITY BEARS played host to the ELIZABETH CITY STATE VIKINGS. The Bears grabbed a quick 7-0 edge in the opening Quarter and made that 10-0 by the break. From there the Vikings managed to outscore Shaw University 13-7 but fell short as the Bears won out 17-13.

erskine flying fleetDEFENSIVE PERFECTION – It was all about the D as the ERSKINE COLLEGE FLYING FLEET welcomed the ST. ANDREWS UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS. The Flying Fleet led 17-0 in the 1st Quarter and 24-0 at the Half. Erskine College never let up the rest of the way, ultimately annihilating the hapless Knights by a final score of 52-0.

post university eaglesPOST UP! – This game pitted the POST UNIVERSITY EAGLES against the visiting WEST VIRGINIA WESLEYAN COLLEGE BOBCATS. The Bobcats watched their 14-7 1st Quarter lead morph into a 28-21 Post University advantage at Halftime. That became 34-24 in the 3rd and 41-24 to end the 4th.

NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association)

Northeastern_Oklahoma_AMTAKING DOWN NUMBER FIFTEEN – The NORTHEASTERN OKLAHOMA A&M GOLDEN NORSEMEN traveled to face the 15th ranked BUTLER (KS) GRIZZLIES. A 13-13 deadlock at Halftime turned into a 20-16 Golden Norsemen edge in the 3rd Quarter. The Grizzlies forced OT with a 23-23 tie to end the 4th, and NEO A&M managed a 26-23 victory.

Iowa Western CollegeBATTLE OF RANKED TEAMS – In this game the number 1 team in the nation – the IOWA WESTERN COLLEGE REIVERS – took it on the road against the 11th ranked GEORGIA MILITARY COLLEGE BULLDOGS. A 21-21 midpoint tie was just the start, with a missed PAT in Overtime giving the Reivers a 42-41 win.

North Dakota State College of Science helmet NEWWHA’ HOPPEN? – The NORTH DAKOTA STATE COLLEGE OF SCIENCE WILDCATS took part in a tale of 2 Halves at the MESABI RANGE COLLEGE NORSE. The Norse held a 14-10 edge at the Half, but then things fell apart for them. The Wildcats went up 24-14 in the 3rd Quarter before closing out Mesabi Range with a 38-14 spanking.

DuPage ChaparralsROAD RAGE – The COLLEGE OF DUPAGE CHAPARRALS beat the stuffing out of their hosts the HOCKING COLLEGE HAWKS in an authoritative 49-12 win    ###    And the NAVARRO COLLEGE BULLDOGS visited the GARDEN CITY COLLEGE BRONCBUSTERS and left them reeling from a 34-20 defeat.

Highland ScottiesSHUTOUTS – The HIGHLAND COLLEGE SCOTTIES parlayed a 14-0 1st Quarter lead into a 31-0 blanking of the visiting MONROE UNIVERSITY MUSTANGS    ###    And, in their very first game in the NJCAA, the CENTRAL GEORGIA TECHNICAL COLLEGE TITANS eviscerated their guests the River City Prep Admirals 75-0. 

Lackawanna College Falcons helmetWINCE-INDUCING SHUTOUTS – The LACKAWANNA COLLEGE FALCONS made the visiting PALMETTO COLLEGIATE BANDITS their prison brides in a 54-0 massacre    ###    And the 5th ranked SNOW COLLEGE BADGERS folded, spindled and mutilated their guests the COMMUNITY CHRISTIAN COLLEGE LIONS to the tune of SEVENTY to NOTHING.
