NUMBER ONE ROLLS – The nation’s top-ranked NEWPORT NEWS APPRENTICE SCHOOL BUILDERS (Shipbuilders) took on the CENTRAL INTERNATIONAL COLLEGE CARDINALS. By Halftime the Builders were on top 55-30 and lost no momentum after the break.
The Apprentice School blew out the Cardinals by a Century Club score of 118-70. Adrion Wall’s 28 points led the Builders.
DOWN GOES NUMBER TWO – The BERKELEY (NY) COLLEGE KNIGHTS played host to the number 2 team in the nation – the BRYANT & STRATTON COLLEGE AT BUFFALO BOBCATS. The storied Knights held a 33-26 advantage at the Half.
From there the Bobcats outscored Berkeley College 60-56, but still fell short as the Knights triumphed 89-86. Karanja Bright notched 21 points to lead B.C.
TWO-POINT WONDER – This game pitted the PAUL QUINN COLLEGE TIGERS (should be the Purple Tigers) against the visiting HUSTON-TILLOTSON UNIVERSITY RAMS. By the midpoint the Tigers were clinging to a mere 32-30 edge.
After the break the teams went blow for blow and basket for basket, scoring 49 points each. The final score was Paul Quinn College 81 Rams 79. Norris Wiliams’ 28 points led the Tigers, while his teammate John Harrison logged a Double Double of 13 points and 10 rebounds.
CATEGORY THREE – The CAMP COLLEGE HURRICANES took the court against their guests the UNITED INTERNATIONAL COLLEGE EAGLE-RAYS. The Hurricanes grabbed a 33-26 lead over the Eagle-Rays in the opening Half.
From there Camp College managed a bit more separation from their opponents and won the game 87-77. Twenty-six points from Keimari Artis led the Hurricanes, and teammate James Barlow registered a Double Double with his 15 points and 12 rebounds.
THE RISING OF ATLANTIS – How cool of a team name is the ATLANTIS UNIVERSITY ATLANTEANS? Well, at any rate, the Atlanteans took on the visiting UNIVERSITY OF MAINE AT FORT KENT BENGALS. Come Halftime Atlantis University led the Bengals 38-35.
After the break the Atlanteans left the University of Maine at Fort Kent a tad more behind them. When the dust had settled Atlantis U. won the game by a final tally of 76-69.
REDEFINING MASSACRES – The GREAT BAY COLLEGE HERONS were less than gracious hosts to the PAUL SMITH’S COLLEGE BOBCATS. The Herons completely dominated the Bobcats on both sides of the ball, leading them 59-25 at the Half.
Great Bay College let up a little bit from there, but still obliterated their opponents to the tune of NINETY-EIGHT to FORTY-THREE. In this all-around team effort, Kingsley Breen’s 18 points led the Herons.
INSTANT CLASSIC – In this game the CHRISTENDOM COLLEGE CRUSADERS traveled to take on the BUCKS COUNTY COLLEGE CENTURIONS. An intense 1st Half of play ended in a 39-34 advantage for the Crusaders.
The Centurions came out of the locker room primed for a comeback, and though they rallied furiously it was just not in the cards for them. Christendom College won the game by a final count of 70-68.
SMACKDOWNS – The SOUTHERN MAINE COLLEGE SEAWOLVES clobbered their guests the ALBANY COLLEGE OF PHARMACY & HEALTH SCIENCES PANTHERS by a score of 82-56 ### Meanwhile, the FISHER COLLEGE FALCONS won by a bruising 98-65 at the FIVE TOWNS COLLEGE SOUND ### And the VILLA MARIA COLLEGE VIKINGS slaughtered the WORD OF LIFE COLLEGE HUSKIES 97-60.
BY JUST A SINGLE POINT – A real thriller was in store as the BOB JONES UNIVERSITY BRUINS visited the JOHNSON & WALES UNIVERSITY AT CHARLOTTE WILDCATS. The Bruins held a deceptive 38-30 lead at the midpoint of the game.
After the break the Wildcats launched a monumental comeback effort. Bob Jones University held on in the end, eking out a tight 73-72 victory. Elijah Cupples put up 21 points to lead the Bruins.
