BALLADEER’S BLOG’S SUNDAY COLLEGE FOOTBALL UPDATE: NOVEMBER 6th

First, Happy Birthday to college football! It was on November 6th, 1869 that Princeton and Rutgers played each other in the very first intercollegiate football game “on the banks of the Raritan” as the old fight song goes.

lincoln university oaklandersLINCOLN TOPPLES NCAA DIVISION TWO – The unaffiliated LINCOLN (CA) UNIVERSITY OAKLANDERS took it on the road against NCAA Division 2’s BLUEFIELD STATE BIG BLUES. In a blow to the pride of the upper divisions, the Oaklanders emerged with a 20-17 Upset win in this Instant Classic.  

West Georgia Wolves BLUEKNOCKING OFF NUMBER SEVEN – In NCAA D2 the 24th ranked UNIVERSITY OF WEST GEORGIA WOLVES traveled to face the number 7 team in the country – the DELTA STATE STATESMEN. The Statesmen led 14-7, 28-17 and 35-24 in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Quarters respectively. In the 4th, the Wolves exploded for 28 points and a 52-42 comeback victory.

Coffeyville Red Ravens helmetNUMBER TWO TAKES A FALL – Down in the NJCAA the number 8 COFFEYVILLE COLLEGE RED RAVENS welcomed the 2nd ranked IOWA WESTERN COLLEGE REIVERS yesterday. Believe it or not the Red Ravens held the Reivers to just 7 points and those came in the opening Quarter. Coffeyville led 16-7 at Halftime before winning the game 23-7.

Morningside MustangsEASY AS ONE, TWO, THREE – Up in the NAIA the (1) MORNINGSIDE COLLEGE MUSTANGS kicked around the DOANE UNIVERSITY TIGERS 58-3   ###   Meanwhile the (2) GRAND VIEW UNIVERSITY VIKINGS (should be the Zebras) won 46-21 at the HASTINGS COLLEGE BRONCOS   ###   And the (3) NORTHWESTERN (IA) COLLEGE RED RAIDERS clobbered the (15) MIDLAND UNIVERSITY WARRIORS 42-10.

wartburg knights helmetSPIRIT OF EIGHTY-ONE – In this game from NCAA Division 3 the WARTBURG COLLEGE KNIGHTS welcomed the SIMPSON COLLEGE STORM. The Knights converted a 27-0 opening Quarter lead into 53-2 at the break on their way to a complete annihilation of the Storm. The final count was Wartburg 81  Simpson 9. 

Williamson Trade HelmetUSCAA GAME OF THE WEEK – In the United States Collegiate Athletic Association the WILLIAMSON COLLEGE OF THE TRADES MECHANICS played host to the CAPP ACADEMY CRUSADERS. The Crusaders were on top 8-0 at Halftime but the Mechanics made it an 8-6 game to end the 3rd Quarter. In the 4th Williamson pulled out a 12-8 victory.

Saint Francis Fighting SaintsUPSETS IN THE RANKINGS – The number 25 UNIVERSITY OF SAINT FRANCIS (IL) FIGHTING SAINTS played host to the 16th ranked ROOSEVELT UNIVERSITY LAKERS and beat them 19-3. And the UNIVERSITY OF MONTANA-WESTERN BULLDOGS won a 27-21 Upset at the number 20 MONTANA TECH OREDIGGERS.

dakota wesleyan new helmetSENIOR DAY – In this game the DAKOTA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY TIGERS (should be the Blue Tigers) played host to the MOUNT MARTY UNIVERSITY LANCERS. After a 14-14 1st Quarter tie the Halftime score was knotted up at 21-21. From there the Tigers outscored the Lancers 17-13 for a 38-34 triumph.

Arizona Christian Univ helmet GOODUNDER THE RADAR CLASSICS – The (24) ARIZONA CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY FIRESTORM won a 30-27 thriller against the visiting LANGSTON UNIVERSITY LIONS   ###   Elsewhere the LAWRENCE TECH BLUE DEVILS held serve against the UNIVERSITY OF ST. FRANCIS (IN) COUGARS 24-19   ###   And the MIDAMERICA NAZARENE UNIVERSITY PIONEERS downed the MISSOURI VALLEY COLLEGE VIKINGS 49-42. 

Rocky Mountain CollegeWE WENT TO A FOOTBALL GAME BUT A BASEBALL GAME BROKE OUT – The ROCKY MOUNTAIN COLLEGE BATTLIN’ BEARS visited the MONTANA STATE-NORTHERN LIGHTS. Neither team scored in the entire 1st Half but the Battlin’ Bears went up 3-0 in the 3rd Quarter. In the 4th RMC won out 9-0.

Sterling helmetROAD RAGE – The STERLING COLLEGE WARRIORS downed their hosts the OTTAWA (KS) BRAVES in a 28-13 affair. And the OLIVET NAZARENE UNIVERSITY TIGERS (should be the Purple Tigers) won by a score of 27-14 at the TRINITY INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY TROJANS.

Geneva College Golden Tornadoes goldGOLDEN BLOWOUT – The GENEVA COLLEGE GOLDEN TORNADOES found themselves on the road against the THIEL COLLEGE TOMCATS. The Golden Tornadoes dominated their opponents on both sides of the ball, and when all the dust had settled, Geneva College had triumphed by a final tally of 57-20.

Ottawa (AZ) SpiritNO SURPRISE IN SURPRISE, ARIZONA – The storied OTTAWA UNIVERSITY (AZ) SPIRIT took the field against their guests the WAYLAND BAPTIST UNIVERSITY PIONEERS (should be the Flying Ws). The Spirit led 21-7 at Halftime and 24-7 in the 3rd Quarter on their way to a 38-14 win.

Concordia_MILOPSIDED IN LIVONIA – The CONCORDIA (MI) CARDINALS clashed with the home standing MADONNA UNIVERSITY CRUSADERS yesterday. The Cardinals grabbed a quick 14-7 advantage in the 1st Quarter and never looked back from there. The final tally was Concordia U. 58  Crusaders 13.

NCAA DIVISION TWO

Newberry helmet goodOTHER UPSETS IN THE RANKINGS – The NEWBERRY COLLEGE WOLVES paid a visit to the number 21 WINGATE UNIVERSITY BULLDOGS and toppled them by a score of 24-15. And the FORT VALLEY STATE WILDCATS sent the 23rd ranked ALBANY (GA) STATE GOLDEN RAMS home with a 31-21 loss.

Central MissouriA DOUBLE SHOT OF THAT OT LOVE – This game pitted the UNIVERSITY OF CENTRAL MISSOURI MULES against their guests the MISSOURI WESTERN STATE GRIFFONS. The Griffons were on top 21-20 come Halftime but the Mules forced Overtime with a 27-27 tie. One extra session ended in a 34-34 deadlock but in the 2nd Missouri Western nailed a Field Goal before UCM won the game 40-37 with a Touchdown.

Arkansas TechALL-NAME GAMES – The ARKANSAS TECH WONDERBOYS notched a 45-20 victory at the NORTHWESTERN OKLAHOMA STATE RANGERS   ###   The COLORADO STATE AT PUEBLO THUNDER WOLVES won by the exact same score over the visiting SOUTH DAKOTA M&T HARDROCKERS   ###   And the EMORY & HENRY COLLEGE WASPS shut out their hosts the ERSKINE COLLEGE FLYING FLEET 32-0.

southern nazareneUNDER THE RADAR CLASSIC – The SOUTHERN NAZARENE UNIVERSITY CRIMSON STORM took it on the road against the SOUTHERN ARKANSAS UNIVERSITY MULERIDERS. A 14-7 1st Quarter lead for the Crimson Storm became a 24-21 Muleriders edge at the Half. SNU then went up 28-27 to end the 3rd Quarter and won out 49-44 in the action-packed 4th.

NCAA DIVISION THREE

Allegheny GatorsWORKING OVERTIME – The ALLEGHENY COLLEGE ALLIGATORS won 20-17 in OT at the BETHANY COLLEGE BISON   ###   Meanwhile the BALDWIN WALLACE UNIVERSITY YELLOW JACKETS logged a 21-20 extra session win at the HEIDELBERG UNIVERSITY STUDENT PRINCES   ###   And the UNIVERSITY OF DUBUQUE SPARTANS defeated their hosts the LORAS COLLEGE DUHAWKS 27-20 in Overtime.

Pomona Pitzer SagehensSMACKDOWN – This game pitted the POMONA-PITZER COLLEGE SAGEHENS against the visiting WHITTIER COLLEGE POETS. The Sagehens kept the Poets winless for 2022, leading them by a score of 29-6 at the midpoint before going on to win the game 43-12. 

carthage college firebirdsTHE COOLER TEAM NAME WINS – The CARTHAGE COLLEGE FIREBIRDS faced the home standing AUGUSTANA COLLEGE VIKINGS and defeated them 37-30   ###   Elsewhere the KNOX COLLEGE PRAIRIE FIRE won 31-27 at the CORNELL (IA) COLLEGE RAMS   ###   And the OHIO NORTHERN UNIVERSITY POLAR BEARS routed their hosts the OTTERBEIN CARDINALS 42-7. 

Worcester Polytechnic Engineers helmetONE OT WAS NOT ENOUGH – The WORCESTER POLYTECHNIC INSTITUTE ENGINEERS were on the road against the COAST GUARD ACADEMY BEARS. The Engineers were up 10-7 come Halftime but Regulation ended in a 17-17 tie. The 1st OT ended in a 24-24 deadlock. In the 2nd OT Worcester Polytechnic shut out the Bears then scored a TD to win the game 30-24.

Hutchinson Blue DragonsNUMBER ONE ROLLS – The top ranked HUTCHINSON COLLEGE BLUE DRAGONS took the field against the visiting INDEPENDENCE COLLEGE PIRATES yesterday. The Blue Dragons achieved defensive perfection while piling up the points themselves. Hutch won the game FIFTY-THREE to NOTHING.

nassau lionsBLOWOUTS – The NASSAU COUNTY COLLEGE LIONS managed a shutout of their own, 48-0 against the HUDSON VALLEY COLLEGE VIKINGS   ###   The IOWA CENTRAL COLLEGE TRITONS obliterated the home standing HIGHLAND COLLEGE SCOTTIES 50-20   ###   And the NAVARRO COLLEGE BULLDOGS spanked the TYLER COLLEGE APACHES by a score of 35-7.

sussex county skylandersNAIL BITER – In this game the SUSSEX COUNTY COLLEGE SKYLANDERS played their hosts the ERIE COLLEGE KATS. The Skylanders were chasing their opponents 10-7 in the 1st Quarter and 17-13 at the Half. The 3rd Quarter ended with SCC finally on top 20-17, which turned out to be the final score as well.

Northwest Mississippi College Rangers blueINSTANT CLASSICS – The (3) NORTHWEST MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE RANGERS defeated the visiting (7) JONES COLLEGE BOBCATS in a 38-35 game. And the GEORGIA MILITARY COLLEGE BULLDOGS marked Sophomore Day with a thrilling 24-21 win over the COLLEGE OF DUPAGE CHAPARRALS.

Riverside College TigersTHE TOP THREE TRIUMPH – The (1) RIVERSIDE CITY COLLEGE TIGERS won a 52-45 shootout at the (5) CERRITOS COLLEGE FALCONS   ###   Elsewhere the (2) MOUNT SAN ANTONIO COLLEGE MOUNTIES beat the PALOMAR COLLEGE COMETS 31-10   ###   And the (3) GOLDEN WEST COLLEGE RUSTLERS routed the SAN DIEGO MESA COLLEGE OLYMPIANS 35-7.

Los angeles valley monarchsTWO-POINT WONDER – In this game the LOS ANGELES VALLEY COLLEGE MONARCHS hosted the SANTA MONICA COLLEGE CORSAIRS. After a scoreless 1st Quarter the Corsairs led 7-0 at Halftime. That became a 13-7 advantage in the 3rd Quarter before the Monarchs roared from behind for a 21-19 victory.

Antelope Valley CollegeCOOL-NAME BOWLS – The ANTELOPE VALLEY COLLEGE MARAUDERS traveled to play the PIERCE COLLEGE BRAHMA BULLS and eviscerated them 58-6. And the COLLEGE OF THE DESERT ROADRUNNERS manhandled the GROSSMONT COLLEGE GRIFFINS to the tune of 48-7. 

pasadena city college lancersA TALE OF TWO HALVES – In the opening Half of this game the PASADENA CITY COLLEGE LANCERS built up a 17-0 advantage over the visiting VICTOR VALLEY COLLEGE RAMS. In the 2nd Half the Lancers had their hands full and had to hold on for a 40-35 triumph over their opponents.

  1. That Simpson – Wartburg game is just sad. The Hawkeyes beat Purdue and are packing their bags for a bowl triumph (they suffer from short term memory loss).

  2. You do a great job with these results. One more–Notre Dame crushed Clemson yesterday. That was a surprise!

    TCU will go undefeated and if in the playoffs (considering the selection committee doesn’t favor their conference) but if they make it they will win it all.
