HEADLINES

Lane Dragons helmetLANE COLLEGE CONQUERS DIVISION ONE – NCAA Division Two’s LANE COLLEGE DRAGONS visited NCAA Division One’s TENNESSEE STATE TIGERS. A 13-10 Dragons edge at Halftime turned into a 20-17 lead to end the 3rd Quarter. The Tigers forced Overtime with a 20-20 tie to end Regulation, then scored 7 points in the extra session. Lane College took a gamble by going for 2 after notching a TD of their own and SUCCEEDED for a gutsy 28-27 Upset.

Mississippi_College_OLD1TOPPLING NUMBER SIX – Staying in D2 for a moment, the MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE CHOCTAWS took it on the road against the number 6 team in the nation – the UNIVERSITY OF WEST GEORGIA WOLVES. The Wolves held a 21-10 advantage at the Half and a 28-23 lead in the 3rd Quarter. In the 4th the Choctaws came from behind to win this Instant Classic 39-38. 

Arizona Christian Univ helmet GOODDOWN GOES NUMBER SEVEN – Over in the NAIA the ARIZONA CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY FIRESTORM welcomed the country’s number 7 team – the OTTAWA UNIVERSITY (AZ) SPIRIT. The Spirit were on top 24-9 at the break, but the Firestorm cut that to a 31-23 deficit in the 3rd Quarter before pulling out a 40-38 comeback victory in the 4th. 

Bethel (TN) WildcatsAND NUMBER EIGHT COMES TUMBLING AFTER – The NAIA’s number 13 BETHEL (TN) WILDCATS paid a visit to the USA’s 8th ranked GEORGETOWN (KY) COLLEGE TIGERS. The 1st Quarter ended in a 7-0 Tigers lead but Halftime saw the Wildcats pull within 7-6. A 21-7 Bethel lead to end the 3rd Quarter wound up in the 4th as a 24-14 Wildcats Upset.   

HELMET Sioux FallsKNOCKING OFF NUMBER NINE – Back in D2 the 25th ranked UNIVERSITY OF SIOUX FALLS COUGARS traveled across town to face the number 9 team in the nation – the AUGUSTANA (SD) VIKINGS. The Cougars led 7-0, 14-7 and 24-7 in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Quarters respectively, then held on against a furious Vikings rally in the 4th to win the game 31-24.   

montana tech orediggers diggers helmetSEVENTY-THREE – This NAIA game saw the (21) MONTANA TECH OREDIGGERS welcome the MONTANA STATE-NORTHERN LIGHTS. The Orediggers seized a 28-0 advantage in the 1st Quarter and never let up from there. When the dust settled Montana Tech had folded, spindled and mutilated the Lights by a final score of SEVENTY-THREE to NOTHING. 

bluefield state new helmetUSCAA GAME OF THE WEEK – In the United States Collegiate Athletic Association the NEWPORT NEWS APPRENTICE SCHOOL BUILDERS (think Shipbuilders) visited the BLUEFIELD STATE BIG BLUES. The Builders led 9-0 in the opening Quarter and 9-7 at the Half. From there the Big Blues went up 15-12 to end the 3rd Quarter before winning out 22-19.

Tyler College Apaches helmet NEWWEIRDASS GAME OF THE WEEK – In the NJCAA the TYLER COLLEGE APACHES took on the home standing NORTHEASTERN OKLAHOMA A&M GOLDEN NORSEMEN. The Apaches notched a Safety to end the 1st Quarter with a 2-0 edge. Neither team scored again until the 4th, when a Tyler College Field Goal gave them a bizarre 5-0 win over the Golden Norsemen.

saint-xavier-cougars-helmet-newOTHER UPSETS IN THE RANKINGS – The (23) SAINT XAVIER UNIVERSITY COUGARS downed their guests the (18) ROOSEVELT UNIVERSITY LAKERS in a 21-20 thriller    ###    And the SIENA HEIGHTS UNIVERSITY SAINTS came out on top in a 13-10 home stand against the (22) UNIVERSITY OF SAINT FRANCIS (IN) COUGARS.

William Penn StatesmenWE WENT TO A FOOTBALL GAME BUT A BASEBALL GAME BROKE OUT – This game pitted the WILLIAM PENN UNIVERSITY STATESMEN against the visiting CENTRAL METHODIST UNIVERSITY EAGLES. A scoreless 1st Quarter was followed by a 6-0 Eagles edge at Halftime. The Statesmen went up 9-6 in the 3rd Quarter and that held up as the final score, too, in this defensive epic.

Rocky Mountain CollegeUNHAPPY HOMECOMINGS – The (20) ROCKY MOUNTAIN COLLEGE BATTLIN’ BEARS rained on Homecoming for the MONTANA-WESTERN BULLDOGS by beating them 41-26   ###   Meanwhile the MIDAMERICA NAZARENE UNIVERSITY PIONEERS did the same to the CLARKE UNIVERSITY PRIDE 38-24   ###   And the CONCORDIA (NE) BULLDOGS downed the DAKOTA WESLEYAN TIGERS 20-12.

Jamestown College JimmiesHOME BLOWOUTS – The UNIVERSITY OF JAMESTOWN JIMMIES welcomed the DOANE UNIVERSITY TIGERS and crushed them 41-17    ###    And the POINT UNIVERSITY SKYHAWKS routed the visiting SAINT ANDREWS UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS 48-6.

saint-ambrose-university-fighting-bees-helmet-newSQUARING THE COMPETITION – In this game the SAINT AMBROSE UNIVERSITY FIGHTING BEES visited the TRINITY INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY TROJANS. The Fighting Bees kept their opponents off the scoreboard until the 4th Quarter while piling up the points themselves. The final tally was St. Ambrose U. 49  Trojans 7.

Greenville College PanthersHOME AND AWAY – The GREENVILLE UNIVERSITY PANTHERS survived a 30-27 visit from the MARTIN LUTHER COLLEGE KNIGHTS    ###    And the UNIVERSITY OF NORTHWESTERN (MN) EAGLES logged a 30-0 road shutout against the FINLANDIA UNIVERSITY LIONS. 

Kentucky Christian Knights newSHUTOUT – The KENTUCKY CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS traveled to face the UNION COLLEGE BULLDOGS. The Knights dominated on both sides of the ball, parlaying a 12-0 1st Quarter lead into a 42-0 blowout victory when all was said and done.

Avila Eagles helmetHOME LOVE – The AVILA UNIVERSITY AVALANCHE manhandled their guests the STERLING COLLEGE WARRIORS 44-14    ###    And the OLIVET NAZARENE UNIVERSITY TIGERS (should be the Purple Tigers) eviscerated the JUDSON UNIVERSITY EAGLES 64-22. 

NCAA DIVISION TWO

IUP Crimson HawksOTHER UPSETS IN THE RANKINGS – The INDIANA UNIVERSITY IN PENNSYLVANIA CRIMSON HAWKS defeated the (12) SLIPPERY ROCK UNIVERSITY ROCK 20-12   ###   Elsewhere, the CARSON-NEWMAN EAGLES downed the (13) NEWBERRY WOLVES 24-14   ###   The (21) DELTA STATE STATESMEN crushed the (16) VALDOSTA STATE BLAZERS 70-31   ###   And the EMPORIA STATE HORNETS won 42-35 at the (24) WASHBURN UNIVERSITY ICHABODS.

Tuskegee Golden TigersDOUBLE OVERTIME – The TUSKEGEE UNIVERSITY GOLDEN TIGERS were on the road against the CLARK ATLANTA UNIVERSITY PANTHERS. A 13-9 Halftime edge for the Golden Tigers became a 30-30 tie to end the 4th Quarter. The first OT ended in a 37-37 deadlock but in the second Tuskegee won it 45-43.

MillersvilleMARAUDERS MARAUDING – The MILLERSVILLE UNIVERSITY MARAUDERS routed the home standing LOCK HAVEN UNIVERSITY BALD EAGLES 42-12   ###   The UNIVERSITY OF MARY MARAUDERS won a 27-26 Overtime squeaker against the NORTHERN STATE WOLVES   ###   And the CENTRAL STATE MARAUDERS won 35-32 at the ALLEN U. YELLOW JACKETS.

Henderson State Reddies helmetBACK AND FORTH – The HENDERSON STATE REDDIES took the field against their guests the SOUTHEASTERN OKLAHOMA STATE SAVAGE STORM on Saturday. The Reddies led 10-7 in the 1st Quarter but the Savage Storm went on top 13-10 by Halftime. A 17-13 Henderson State advantage ended the 3rd Quarter and the Reddies won out 31-23 in the 4th.

NCAA DIVISION THREE

North_Central_ILONE, TWO, THREE – The (1) NORTH CENTRAL COLLEGE CARDINALS won 33-20 against the visiting number 11 WHEATON COLLEGE THUNDER   ###   Meanwhile the (2) UNIVERSITY OF MOUNT UNION PURPLE RAIDERS shut out their hosts the OHIO NORTHERN UNIVERSITY POLAR BEARS 45-0   ###   And the (3) UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN AT WHITEWATER WARHAWKS won 34-31 at the 9th ranked UW-LACROSSE EAGLES.

McDaniel Green Terror Helmet NEWGREEN TRUMPS RED – In this Centennial Conference clash the MCDANIEL COLLEGE GREEN TERROR hosted the DICKINSON COLLEGE RED DEVILS. A scoreless opening Quarter was followed by a 12-3 Green Terror lead by Halftime. That became 18-10 to end the 3rd with the Red Devils falling in the 4th 21-13.

Millsaps_MS“RANKED” TEAMS – The MILLSAPS COLLEGE MAJORS won a tight 30-27 game at the SEWANEE UNIVERSITY TIGERS   ###   Elsewhere the CHRISTOPHER NEWPORT UNIVERSITY CAPTAINS defeated the ROWAN UNIVERSITY PROFS 20-14   ###   And the WASHINGTON & LEE UNIVERSITY GENERALS shut out the AVERETT UNIVERSITY COUGARS 31-0.

pacific lutheran lutes helmetONE-POINT WONDER – The PACIFIC LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY LUTES found themselves on the road against the GEORGE FOX UNIVERSITY BRUINS. The Bruins led 6-0 at the midpoint but the Lutes went up 7-6 in the 3rd Quarter before winning the game 13-12 in the 4th.

NJCAA

Hutchinson Blue DragonsNUMBER TWO TRIES HARDER – There were two teams tied for number 2 in the NJCAA rankings this week. The (T2) HUTCHINSON COLLEGE BLUE DRAGONS defeated the visiting (9) BUTLER (KS) GRIZZLIES 27-19    ###    And the (T2) IOWA WESTERN COLLEGE REIVERS triumphed 17-8 at the INDEPENDENCE COLLEGE PIRATES.

snow college badgers newSIX OVER TEN – In this game the 6th ranked SNOW COLLEGE BADGERS welcomed the number 10 GEORGIA MILITARY COLLEGE BULLDOGS. The Badgers took control 19-3 in the opening Quarter and never looked back. The final tally was Snow College 41  Bulldogs 18.

sussex county skylandersOFF THE SCHNEID – The SUSSEX COUNTY COLLEGE SKYLANDERS traveled to face the MONROE COLLEGE MUSTANGS. The Mustangs led 13-7 in the 1st Quarter but the Skylanders shut them out from there. In the end Sussex County College got their first win for 2022 by a score of 22-13.

DuPage ChaparralsROAD RAGE – The COLLEGE OF DUPAGE CHAPARRALS obliterated their hosts the ERIE COLLEGE KATS to the tune of 48-0 after NEITHER TEAM scored at all in the 1st Half    ###    And the COFFEYVILLE COLLEGE RED RAVENS trounced the ELLSWORTH COLLEGE PANTHERS 31-7.
