COLLEGE FOOTBALL RESULTS FROM SEPTEMBER 17th

HEADLINES

delta stateDELTA STATE CONQUERS DIVISION ONE – In this game NCAA Division 2’s DELTA STATE STATESMEN traveled to take on NCAA Division 1’s MISSISSIPPI VALLEY STATE DELTA DEVILS. By Halftime the Statesmen were on top 18-0. The Delta Devils finally got on the board in the 3rd Quarter, which ended with Delta State leading 25-10. In the 4th the Statesmen completed the Upset 28-17.

uw lacrosse eaglesUW-LACROSSE TOPPLES A D2 TEAM – NCAA Division 3’s (11) UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN-LACROSSE EAGLES visited NCAA Division 2’s WAYNE STATE WARRIORS. The Warriors saw their 7-0 1st Quarter edge turn into a 21-14 Eagles advantage at the Half. A 21-21 tie ended the 3rd Quarter before UW-Lacrosse won out 28-21. 

roosevelt lakers green helmetDOWN GOES NUMBER SEVEN – Up in the NAIA, the ROOSEVELT UNIVERSITY LAKERS welcomed the number 7 team in the nation – the CONCORDIA (MI) CARDINALS. At the midpoint the score was knotted up 14-14 but from there the Lakers outscored Concordia 14-6 for a 28-20 Upset victory.

NNAS_VAUSCAA GAME OF THE WEEK – In the United States Collegiate Athletic Association the NEWPORT NEWS APPRENTICE SCHOOL BUILDERS (think Shipbuilders) took it on the road against the CHRISTOPHER NEWPORT UNIVERSITY CAPTAINS. A 7-7 1st Quarter tie became a 17-14 Builders lead by Halftime. The Captains went up 21-17 in the 3rd Quarter but the 4th ended in a 38-35 NNAS win.

Iowa Wesleyan CollegeNAIA OVER NCAA DIVISION THREE – The NAIA’s IOWA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY TIGERS played host to NCAA D3’s FINLANDIA UNIVERSITY LIONS. The Tigers seized a 14-0 lead in the opening Quarter and never looked back from there. Ultimately, Iowa Wesleyan dismembered the Lions FIFTY-FIVE to NOTHING.

Salisbury Seagulls helmetD3 OVER NAIA – NCAA D3’s SALISBURY UNIVERSITY SEA GULLS played the NAIA’s visiting AVE MARIA UNIVERSITY GYRENES yesterday. Though the score was deadlocked at 14-14 come the Half, the Sea Gulls shut out the Gyrenes from there for a 42-14 triumph.

*** With UW-Lacrosse’s victory over a D2 team counting as 2 wins, NCAA Division 3 wins this week over the NAIA 3 games to 1. The NAIA has won 3 weeks, D3 has now won 1.

Peru_St_NE_OLD3OTHER UPSETS IN THE RANKINGS – The PERU STATE BOBCATS took the field against their guests the 11th ranked BAKER UNIVERSITY WILDCATS and toppled them in a 19-14 thriller    ###    And the ROCKY MOUNTAIN COLLEGE BATTLIN’ BEARS knocked off the number 21 MONTANA TECH OREDIGGERS 28-20.

missouri baptist helmetFOUR QUARTERS WASN’T ENOUGH – This game pitted the MISSOURI BAPTIST UNIVERSITY SPARTANS against their hosts the MADONNA UNIVERSITY CRUSADERS. A 24-23 Spartans edge at Halftime became a 37-37 tie to end Regulation. In the extra session MBU won the game 44-37.

saint-xavier-cougars-helmet-newUNDER THE RADAR CLASSICS – The SAINT XAVIER UNIVERSITY COUGARS battled the SIENNA HEIGHTS UNIVERSITY SAINTS and defeated them 24-21   ###   The LAWRENCE TECH BLUE DEVILS won 36-30 at the SAINT AMBROSE UNIVERSITY FIGHTING BEES   ###   And the GRACELAND UNIVERSITY YELLOW JACKETS beat the CENTRAL METHODIST UNIVERSITY EAGLES 26-20.

Bethel (KS) ThreshersGRIDIRON GRUDGE MATCH – The BETHEL (KS) THRESHERS were on the road against the KANSAS WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY COYOTES. The Threshers were on top 13-7 in the 1st Quarter but the Coyotes led 17-13 by the break. The 3rd Quarter ended with Kansas Wesleyan up 24-16 but Bethel College came back to win the game 30-24 in the 4th.  

NCCAA

Ottawa (AZ) SpiritTHAT’S THE SPIRIT – The OTTAWA UNIVERSITY (AZ) SPIRIT paid a call on the TEXAS WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY RAMS. A 10-0 1st Quarter lead for the Rams became a 17-13 Spirits edge at Halftime. After the break Ottawa U. outscored Texas Wesleyan 10-9 for a 27-22 win.

warner royals yellow helmetSMACKDOWNS – The WARNER UNIVERSITY ROYALS fell decisively 49-22 to their hosts the FLORIDA MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY LIONS    ###    And the TRINITY INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY TROJANS were likewise crushed on the road, in their case 41-19 at the TAYLOR UNIVERSITY TROJANS.

North Greenville CrusadersCRUSADE IN MISSISSIPPI – The NORTH GREENVILLE UNIVERSITY CRUSADERS visited the MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE CHOCTAWS on Saturday. A competitive 1st Half ended with the Crusaders on top of the Choctaws 13-6. From there NGU dominated, ultimately blowing out Mississippi College 41-19.

Campbellsville UniversityEPIC CLASH – The CAMPBELLSVILLE UNIVERSITY TIGERS (should be the Burgundy Tigers) played host to the THOMAS MORE UNIVERSITY SAINTS. Come Halftime the Tigers were chasing their opponents 17-10. After the break, points flew like shrapnel as the Saints wound up winning the game 44-36.

NCAA DIVISION TWO

Texas_AM_KingsvilleUPSETS IN THE RANKINGS – The TEXAS A&M AT KINGSVILLE JAVELINAS toppled the home standing (12) WEST TEXAS A&M BUFFALOES 31-24   ###   Meanwhile, the NORTHERN STATE WOLVES snuck past the (15) MINNESOTA STATE MAVERICKS 23-22   ###   And the (21) UNIVERSITY OF NEBRASKA-KEARNEY LOPERS won 21-13 at the (18) WASHBURN UNIVERSITY ICHABODS.

bluefield state football helmetONE-POINT WONDER – This game pitted the BLUEFIELD STATE BIG BLUES against the visiting CENTRAL STATE MARAUDERS. The Big Blues led 7-0 in the 1st Quarter and 14-7 come Halftime. The 3rd Quarter ended in a 21-21 tie before Bluefield State won the game 27-23 in the 4th.

Newberry helmet goodDOUBLE OVERTIME – The (10) NEWBERRY COLLEGE WOLVES needed 2 Overtime periods to defeat their hosts the EMORY & HENRY COLLEGE WASPS 26-23    ###    And the LIMESTONE COLLEGE SAINTS emerged with a 40-37 Double OT win at the CARSON-NEWMAN UNIVERSITY EAGLES.

Oklahoma Baptist University helmetBACK AND FORTH AFFAIR – The OKLAHOMA BAPTIST UNIVERSITY BISON were on the road against the NORTHWESTERN OKLAHOMA STATE RANGERS. The Rangers led 10-7 in the 1st Quarter but the Bison went up 14-10 by Halftime. Northwestern Oklahoma State grabbed a 17-14 edge in the 3rd Quarter before OBU won it in the 4th 31-23.

NCAA DIVISION THREE

loras duhawksUPSETS IN THE RANKINGS – The LORAS COLLEGE DUHAWKS upset the home standing (12) CENTRAL COLLEGE DUTCH 38-35   ###   Elsewhere, the URSINUS COLLEGE BEARS downed the (18) MUHLENBERG COLLEGE MULES 35-28   ###   And the CASE WESTERN RESERVE SPARTANS won 14-10 against the visiting (10) WASHINGTON & JEFFERSON COLLEGE PRESIDENTS.

HELMETTRINITYA TALE OF TWO HALVES – In this game the TRINITY (CT) BANTAMS traveled to face the TUFTS UNIVERSITY JUMBOS. The 1st Half ended with the Bantams in charge by a score of 26-3. After the break Trinity had to hold on tight against a furious Jumbos rally to win the game 26-23.

Merchant Marine AcademyS.A.M. – SERVICE ACADEMY MANIA – The UNITED STATES MERCHANT MARINE ACADEMY MARINERS clobbered the MARITIME COLLEGE PRIVATEERS to the tune of 48-13    ###    And the NICHOLS COLLEGE BISON survived a 37-33 visit from the COAST GUARD ACADEMY BEARS.

Pacific Boxers helmetWORKIN’ OVERTIME – The PACIFIC UNIVERSITY BOXERS welcomed the POMONA-PITZER COLLEGE SAGEHENS and defeating them in the extra session 23-20    ###    And the LEBANON VALLEY COLLEGE FLYING DUTCHMEN won a 17-14 Overtime affair at the FDU-FLORHAM DEVILS.
