NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME – The 5 seeds – the NEWPORT NEWS APPRENTICE SCHOOL BUILDERS (as in Shipbuilders) – faced the 4th seeded UNIVERSITY OF MIAMI-HAMILTON HARRIERS for the title in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association.
Things looked bad for the Builders as the Harriers seized a 4-0 lead in the 1st Inning and made that an 8-2 advantage by the 3rd.
Both teams’ Pitchers were worn out by this 3rd game of the day, and a 15-2 lead by UM-Hamilton in the 4th Inning was just the start of the scoring. NNAS pulled to within 15-6 in the 5th Inning and 17-12 in the 6th.
The Builders shut out their opponents the rest of the way while adding an unbelievable 11 more runs of their own to win the game by a football score of 23-17. Thomas Packert pitched for the win. * THE BUILDERS ARE USCAA BASEBALL CHAMPIONS *
