NAIA ROUND TWO

ariz christian university firestormBATTLE OF COOL-NAMED TEAMS – The ARIZONA CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY FIRESTORM clashed with the BETHEL (KS) COLLEGE THRESHERS in this game.

The Threshers had the Firestorm faithful worried at Halftime with their 40-37 edge. After the break the Firestorm dominated on both sides of the ball, outscoring Bethel College 45-26 to win by a final tally of 82-66. Dennis Flowers III led ACU with 16 points, while his teammate Robby Wilson logged a Double-Double of 11 points and 13 rebounds.

c of idaho coyotesHOWLING GOOD GAME – This contest pitted the COLLEGE OF IDAHO COYOTES against the GRACE COLLEGE LANCERS.

The opening Half ended with the Coyotes on top 35-28. From there the Lancers only managed to cut into the College of Idaho lead by 2 points as the Coyotes went on to a 71-66 victory. Sixteen points from Ivory Miles-Williams led C of I in scoring, while fellow Yote Jake O’Neil had a Double-Double of 15 points and 11 rebounds.

Talladega College Tornadoes NEWALL-NAME GAME – The TALLADEGA COLLEGE TORNADOES took the court against the UNIVERSITY OF JAMESTOWN JIMMIES.

This started out as a defensive epic as the Tornadoes led their opponents by a low score of 26-25 at the midpoint. After the break both offenses started clicking as Talladega College left the Jimmies further and further behind on their way to a 67-56 triumph. Cam Potts tossed in 21 points to lead the Tornadoes in scoring.

Loyola WolfpackHUNGRY LIKE THE WOLF – The LOYOLA UNIVERSITY (LA) WOLFPACK faced the FAULKNER UNIVERSITY EAGLES (should be the Fury).

The Wolfpack was pretty much in charge all the way, leading Faulkner University 46-30 come Halftime before defeating them in an 85-67 rout. Myles Burns of Loyola University nearly redefined the Double-Double, managing 24 points and 17 rebounds.

NCCAA DIVISION ONE

carolina university bruinsFIRST QUARTERFINAL – The 3 seeds – the CAROLINA UNIVERSITY BRUINS – did battle with the 6th seeded ECCLESIA COLLEGE ROYALS.

The Bruins were out in front of Ecclesia College 35-31 by the Half, then had to hold on tight from there against a furious Royals rally. The final score was Carolina University 69  Ecclesia College 67. Micah Cooper led the way for the Bruins with his Double-Double of 23 points and 10 rebounds.

hannibal lagrange trojansSECOND QUARTERFINAL – The 8th seeded HANNIBAL-LAGRANGE UNIVERSITY TROJANS provided the Upset of the day against the top seeds – the ALICE LLOYD COLLEGE EAGLES.

The Trojans put the Eagles on Upset Alert by Halftime with their 42-40 edge. After the break Hannibal-LaGrange U managed more and more separation from Alice Lloyd College, ultimately defeating them in an 87-75 shocker. Michael Hood’s THIRTY-TWO points led the Trojans.

lancaster bible college chargersTHIRD QUARTERFINAL – In this game the 2 seeds – the LANCASTER BIBLE COLLEGE CHARGERS – played the 7th seeded ASBURY UNIVERSITY EAGLES.

It looked like another mammoth Upset might be in store as the Eagles were on top 44-34 at the Half. From there the Chargers came roaring back, outscoring Asbury U 47-31 to win the game 81-75. Eighteen points from both Grant Sareyka and Jordan Shewbridge led the way for Lancaster Bible College.

baptist bible college patriotsFOURTH QUARTERFINAL – The 4th seeded BAPTIST BIBLE COLLEGE PATRIOTS clashed with the 5 seeds – the SOUTHWESTERN CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY EAGLES.

Balladeer’s Blog has often complained about how many college teams are called Eagles. This tournament knocked out all its Eagles teams as Southwestern Christian University watched their 42-37 Halftime advantage vanish after the break. The Patriots triumphed 91-80 led by 26 points from Trent McBride.
