NCCAA
VICTORY BOWL – The season-ending event in the NCCAA saw the SOUTHWESTERN ASSEMBLIES OF GOD UNIVERSITY LIONS take on the STERLING COLLEGE WARRIORS this year. The Lions grabbed a 10-0 lead in the 1st Quarter and by Halftime held a 17-7 advantage over the Warriors. After the break SAGU outscored Sterling College 14-7 for a 31-14 triumph.
NAIA PLAYOFFS
ROUND ONE: GAME ONE – The KEISER UNIVERSITY SEA HAWKS took it on the road against the REINHARDT UNIVERSITY EAGLES (should be the Rottweilers). After a scoreless opening Quarter Reinhardt U led 6-3 at the Half. The 3rd Quarter ended with the Sea Hawks on top 10-6 and the game ended in a 16-13 win for Keiser University.
ROUND ONE: GAME TWO – In this game the MARIAN UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS welcomed the SOUTHWESTERN COLLEGE MOUNDBUILDERS. The Knights led 6-3 in the 1st Quarter but the Moundbuilders were out in front 17-6 by the midpoint. Marian U made it a 17-14 game in the 3rd Quarter before coming from behind in the 4th to win it 21-17.
ROUND ONE: GAME THREE – The NORTHWESTERN (IA) COLLEGE RED RAIDERS took on the visiting CENTRAL METHODIST UNIVERSITY EAGLES. The Red Raiders led the Eagles 7-0, 10-7 and 17-7 in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Quarters respectively. In the 4th Northwestern College consummated the win by a score of 24-7.
ROUND ONE: GAME FOUR – The MORNINGSIDE COLLEGE MUSTANGS played host to the OTTAWA UNIVERSITY (AZ) SPIRIT. A 14-10 1st Quarter edge for the Mustangs became a 35-31 count come Halftime. Morningside expanded their lead over the Spirit to 56-38 in the 3rd Quarter before winning out 63-38.
ROUND ONE: GAME FIVE – Up next the GRAND VIEW UNIVERSITY VIKINGS entertained the DICKINSON STATE BLUE HAWKS. This game was virtually over in the opening Quarter as Grand View exploded for a 31-0 lead. The Blue Hawks cut that to 31-7 in the 3rd Quarter but lost 38-13 in the 4th.
ROUND ONE: GAME SIX – The CONCORDIA (MI) UNIVERSITY CARDINALS took the field against the visiting SAINT XAVIER UNIVERSITY COUGARS and proceeded to crush them. By Halftime the Cardinals were on top of the Cougars 23-3 before going on to win the game by a final tally of 47-3.
NOTE: The Lindsey Wilson College Blue Raiders and the University of Montana-Western Bulldogs do not play until tomorrow. The Kansas Wesleyan University Coyotes advanced to the Quarterfinals when the Indiana Wesleyan University Wildcats had to forfeit less than 24 hours before game time today.
NCAA DIVISION TWO PLAYOFFS
ROUND ONE: GAME ONE – The NEWBERRY COLLEGE WOLVES traveled to face the defending National Champions – the UNIVERSITY OF WEST FLORIDA ARGONAUTS. The Wolves were out in front 14-10 over the Argonauts at the Half but West Florida forced Overtime with a 27-27 tie to end the 4th Quarter. In the extra session the Argonauts scored a Field Goal before Newberry College notched a TD to topple the defending champs 33-30.
ROUND ONE: GAME TWO – The BEMIDJI STATE BEAVERS took it on the road against the AUGUSTANA (SD) VIKINGS. The Beavers led 14-10 in the 1st Quarter and 21-10 at the break. The 3rd Quarter ended with the Vikings in front 24-21 but Bemidji State came from behind in the 4th for a 28-24 Upset.
ROUND ONE: GAME THREE – The UNIVERSITY OF NEBRASKA-KEARNEY LOPERS visited the WESTERN COLORADO STATE MOUNTAINEERS. A 3-3 tie in the opening Quarter turned into a 10-3 Lopers advantage by Halftime. In the 3rd Quarter UNK extended their lead to 24-10 before the Mountaineers knotted things up at 24-24 in the 4th. The “Last Minute Lopers” emerged triumphant once again by an Upset score of 31-24.
ROUND ONE: GAME FOUR – This game pitted the UNIVERSITY OF WEST GEORGIA WOLVES against their hosts the ALBANY (GA) STATE GOLDEN RAMS. The Wolves kept the Golden Rams off the scoreboard until the 4th Quarter, leading 14-0, 20-0 and 23-0 in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Quarters respectively. West Georgia won it in the 4th 23-7.
ROUND ONE: GAME FIVE – The SHEPHERD UNIVERSITY RAMS welcomed the UNIVERSITY OF FINDLAY OILERS. A scoreless 1st Quarter was followed by a 14-14 deadlock at Halftime. The Rams went up 24-21 in the 3rd Quarter before notching a 38-31 triumph over the Oilers.
ROUND ONE: GAME SIX – The HARDING UNIVERSITY BISON were paid a visit by the WASHBURN UNIVERSITY ICHABODS. The Bison held a 20-7 lead over the Ichabods by the Half. From there Harding U outscored their opponents 10-7 to win the game 30-14.
FAVORITES WINNING BIG – Chalk won the rest of the way, too, as the GRAND VALLEY STATE LAKERS routed the LINDENWOOD UNIVERSITY LIONS 20-3, the NOTRE DAME COLLEGE FALCONS beat the forever overrated SLIPPERY ROCK UNIVERSITY ROCK 33-25 and the BOWIE STATE BULLDOGS smacked down the LENOIR-RHYNE UNIVERSITY BEARS 31-10.
FAVORITES WINNING EVEN BIGGER – More chalk but with wider blowouts as the UNIVERSITY OF NEW HAVEN CHARGERS hammered the BENTLEY UNIVERSITY FALCONS 38-13, the NORTHWEST MISSOURI STATE BEARCATS mauled the CENTRAL WASHINGTON WILDCATS 50-21 and the ANGELO STATE RAMS bounced the UM-DULUTH BULLDOGS 48-14.
NCAA DIVISION THREE PLAYOFFS
R.P.I. FOR THE W.I.N. – The RENSSELAER POLYTECHNIC INSTITUTE ENGINEERS visited the ENDICOTT COLLEGE GULLS. The Engineers led 7-0 in the 1st Quarter, 14-7 at Halftime and 20-7 to end the 3rd Quarter. In the 4th Rensselaer held on for a 20-14 victory.
THIS GAME WAS FOR THE BIRDS – The JOHNS HOPKINS UNIVERSITY BLUE JAYS were on the road against the SALISBURY UNIVERSITY SEA GULLS. The Blue Jays parlayed a 14-7 opening Quarter lead into a 35-14 advantage by the Half. From there they coasted to a 45-20 smackdown of the Sea Gulls.
TIGHT TEXAS TUSSLE – In this game the UNIVERSITY OF MARY HARDIN-BAYLOR CRUSADERS welcomed the TRINITY (TX) TIGERS. A 3-3 tie at the midpoint turned into a 6-3 edge for the Crusaders to end the 3rd Quarter. In the 4th UMHB sent the Tigers home with a 13-3 loss.
INSTANT CLASSIC – The CORTLAND STATE RED DRAGONS were up against the SPRINGFIELD UNIVERSITY PRIDE. The 1st Quarter ended in a 7-7 tie followed by a 16-7 Red Dragons lead by Halftime. Cortland State expanded that to 19-7 in the 3rd Quarter before hanging on against the Pride in the 4th 26-21.
SHUTOUT – The MUHLENBERG COLLEGE MULES achieved defensive perfection against their opponents the FRAMINGHAM STATE RAMS. The Mules led the Rams 24-0 by the Half and never looked back from there as they went on to a 45-0 triumph.
ONE TEAM WAS PLAYING BASKETBALL – The UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN AT WHITEWATER WARHAWKS eviscerated the visiting GREENVILLE UNIVERSITY PANTHERS to the tune of 69-7 ### Meanwhile the CENTRAL COLLEGE DUTCH hammered the BETHEL (MN) ROYALS 61-35 ### And the DELAWARE VALLEY AGGIES won 62-10 against the ANNA MARIA COLLEGE AMCATS.
ALL-NAME GAMES – The SAINT JOHN’S UNIVERSITY JOHNNIES took the field against the LAKE FOREST COLLEGE FORESTERS and annihilated them by a score of 41-14 ### And the UNIVERSITY OF MOUNT UNION PURPLE RAIDERS utterly trounced the WASHINGTON & LEE UNIVERSITY GENERALS in a 52-0 laugher.
NCAA DIVISION THREE BOWL GAMES
ASA BUSHNELL BOWL – The HOBART COLLEGE STATESMEN clashed with the WESTMINSTER COLLEGE TITANS in this game. A 14-3 1st Quarter lead for the Statesmen remained unchanged at Halftime. Neither team scored in the 3rd Quarter, either, followed by Hobart College putting it away 21-3 in the 4th.
SCOTTY WHITELAW BOWL – This Bowl Game saw the GROVE CITY COLLEGE WOLVERINES take on the UTICA COLLEGE PIONEERS. The Wolverines kept the Pioneers off the scoreboard until the 4th Quarter while putting up 14 points in the 1st Quarter and 28 in the 2nd. After a scoreless 3rd Quarter Grove City College won this lopsided affair 49-7.
CLAYTON CHAPMAN BOWL – The BROCKPORT STATE GOLDEN EAGLES went up against the WASHINGTON & JEFFERSON COLLEGE PRESIDENTS. The Golden Eagles were in charge all the way, leading 7-0 in the 1st Quarter, 10-0 at the Half and 17-0 in the 3rd. Brockport State then defeated the Presidents 20-7 in the 4th.
ISTHMUS BOWL – In this debut Bowl Game the UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN AT RIVER FALLS FALCONS did battle with the WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY IN SAINT LOUIS BEARS. A 13-7 Falcons lead in the opening Quarter turned into a 21-20 edge for the Bears come Halftime. After the break UW-River Falls outscored Washington U 28-6 to win out 48-27.
NEW ENGLAND BOWL: GAME ONE – The UNIVERSITY OF MASSACHUSETTS AT DARTMOUTH CORSAIRS took the field against the ALFRED STATE PIONEERS. The Corsairs seized a quick 16-3 advantage in the 1st Quarter and never slowed down, ultimately thrashing the Pioneers by a final score of 42-16.
NEW ENGLAND BOWL: GAME TWO – In this game the UNITED STATES MERCHANT MARINE ACADEMY MARINERS played the WESTERN NEW ENGLAND UNIVERSITY GOLDEN BEARS. Close games were a thing unknown yesterday as the Mariners led 35-7 by the midpoint before logging a 63-35 blowout victory.
CENTENNIAL-MAC BOWL: GAME ONE – The Centennial Conference’s FRANKLIN & MARSHALL COLLEGE DIPLOMATS faced the Middle Atlantic Conference’s STEVENSON UNIVERSITY MUSTANGS. The Diplomats dominated, ultimately parlaying a 16-0 1st Quarter lead into a resounding 42-28 triumph.
CENTENNIAL-MAC BOWL: GAME TWO – The LYCOMING COLLEGE WARRIORS, out of the MAC, duked it out with the CC’s URSINUS COLLEGE BEARS. This game was actually tight from start to finish. A 7-7 1st Quarter tie became a 20-17 Bears lead at Halftime. Neither team scored in the 3rd Quarter and the 4th saw the Warriors come out on top 31-23.
CENTENNIAL-MAC BOWL: GAME THREE – The SUSQUEHANNA UNIVERSITY RIVER HAWKS (Centennial Conference) played the WIDENER UNIVERSITY PRIDE (Middle Atlantic Conference). The River Hawks led the Pride 35-14 at the Half before going on to win the game by a final tally of 49-21.
