BRACKET A: GAME ONE – The 2 seeds – the TALLADEGA COLLEGE TORNADOES – did battle with the 3rd seeded LSU-ALEXANDRIA GENERALS.
The Tornadoes were clinging to a slender 30-27 edge at Halftime, then got more and more separation from the Generals after the break. Talladega College went on to win the game by a final score of 77-68. Both Darryl Baker and Amir Yusuf contributed 16 points, with Yusuf notching a Double-Double by also grabbing 19 rebounds.
BRACKET B: GAME ONE – In this game the 3rd seeded XAVIER UNIVERSITY (LA) GOLD RUSH took on the 2 seeds – the UNIVERSITY OF THE CUMBERLANDS PATRIOTS.
The defenses dominated the opening Half, with the Patriots on top of the Gold Rush 29-27 at the midpoint. Xavier University came out of the locker room primed for a comeback and proceeded to outscore the University of the Cumberlands 40-30 for a 67-59 victory. Makye Richard tossed in 25 points to lead the Gold Rush.
OMAHA REGION
BRACKET A: GAME ONE – This game pitted the 3 seeds – the BETHEL (IN) PILOTS (Riverboat Pilots) against the 2nd seeded TEXAS A&M AT TEXARKANA EAGLES (should be the Texarks).
The Pilots put the Eagles/ Texarks on Upset Alert by Halftime with their 35-30 advantage. After the break Bethel University managed to hold TAMU-Texarkana at arm’s length, ultimately winning the game 73-69. The Pilots were led by Nathan Aerts and Wesley Burse, who each put up 18 points.
BRACKET B: GAME ONE – The 2nd seeded UNIVERSITY OF JAMESTOWN JIMMIES found themselves facing the 3 seeds – the BELLEVUE (NE) UNIVERSITY BRUINS.
Going into the Half the Jimmies were on top of the Bruins by a tight score of 33-29. In the 2nd Half the University of Jamestown found their stride and left Bellevue University further and further behind. When the dust settled the Jimmies emerged with a comfortable 86-59 triumph. Mason Walters led the victors with his THIRTY points.
