DEFENSIVE DONNYBROOK – The defenses were the story in this clash between the WAYLAND BAPTIST UNIVERSITY PIONEERS (should be the Flying Ws) and their guests the LYON COLLEGE SCOTS. Both teams were shut out in the 1st Quarter, but the Pioneers went up 7-0 by Halftime. After a scoreless 3rd Quarter Wayland Baptist University added a Field Goal in the 4th for a 10-0 victory.
ROAD WARRIORS – The SOUTHWESTERN ASSEMBLIES OF GOD UNIVERSITY LIONS notched a 31-20 road win over the LANGSTON UNIVERSITY LIONS ### Meanwhile the FAULKNER UNIVERSITY EAGLES clubbed their hosts the UNION COLLEGE BULLDOGS 45-27 ### And the GEORGETOWN (KY) COLLEGE TIGERS beat the CUMBERLAND UNIVERSITY PHOENIX 19-7 in their own house.
LAKERS STILL ROLLING – The ROOSEVELT UNIVERSITY LAKERS made it 3 victories in a row as they went up against the visiting UNIVERSITY OF SAINT FRANCIS (IL) FIGHTING SAINTS. The teams were knotted up at 7-7 in the opening Quarter and 14-14 at the midpoint. The Lakers went up 28-14 in the 3rd Quarter and ultimately won out by a final tally of 28-20.
KNIGHT GAME – The KENTUCKY CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS welcomed the SAINT ANDREWS UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS. A 14-7 1st Quarter advantage for KCU became 17-7 at the Half. The 3rd Quarter ended with Saint Andrews Uuniversity chasing Kentucky Christian 23-14 and a 4th Quarter rally fell just short as KCU won out 29-24.
ONE-POINT WONDER – The CAMPBELLSVILLE UNIVERSITY TIGERS took it on the road against the UNIVERSITY OF PIKEVILLE BEARS on Friday. The 1st Quarter ended with the Bears on top 6-0 but by Halftime the Tigers had grabbed a slender 7-6 edge. In the 3rd, the University of Pikeville went back up 13-7 with Campbellsville U roaring from behind in the 4th Quarter for a 14-13 triumph.
HOME STANDS – The ARIZONA CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY FIRESTORM clobbered their guests the OKLAHOMA PANHANDLE STATE AGGIES (should be Okies) 34-7 ### Meanwhile the LINDSEY WILSON COLLEGE BLUE RAIDERS mangled the UNIVERSITY OF THE CUMBERLANDS PATRIOTS to the tune of 45-10 ### And the MARIAN UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS won a 37-14 beatdown over the TAYLOR UNIVERSITY TROJANS.
A POLO SCORE? – The CONCORDIA (MI) CARDINALS traveled to face the SIENNA HEIGHTS UNIVERSITY SAINTS for this game. A 3-0 edge for the Cardinals in the opening Quarter became a 10-7 lead over the Saints at Halftime. After the break the defenses ruled the field. Neither team managed another score of any kind as Concordia U won the game by that same score of 10-7.
OBLITERATION – This game pitted the REINHARDT UNIVERSITY EAGLES (should be the Rottweilers) against the visiting POINT UNIVERSITY SKYHAWKS. The 1st Quarter ended with the Eagles in firm command by a score of 21-0. Reinhardt University never looked back from there, dominating on both sides of the ball for a FIFTY-TWO to NOTHING obliteration of the Skyhawks.
SQUARING THE COMPETITION – The BETHEL (TN) WILDCATS found themselves on the road against the THOMAS MORE COLLEGE SAINTS. The Wildcats seized a quick 14-0 advantage in the 1st Quarter. That turned into a commanding 28-0 advantage at the break and from there Bethel coasted to a 49-7 manhandling of Thomas More College.
COUGARS ON THE PROWL – The SAINT XAVIER UNIVERSITY COUGARS paid a visit to the TRINITY INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY TROJANS. The Cougars started out slowly, mustering a 3-0 1st Quarter edge over the Trojans but by Halftime had made that a 24-0 lead. Trinity International rallied in the 2nd Half, but fell short as the Cougars won out by a final count of 37-28.
HOLD THE COMPETITION TO FOURTEEN – It’s still considered great in football if you can hold your opponents to 17 points or less, 14 or less even better. The OLIVET NAZARENE UNIVERSITY TIGERS (should be Purple Tigers) hosted the MISSOURI BAPTIST UNIVERSITY SPARTANS on Saturday and nearly doubled up on them with a 27-14 victory.
