SHOWDOWN IN GLENDALE – The ARIZONA CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY FIRESTORM welcomed the LANGSTON UNIVERSITY LIONS to town on Saturday. Neither team scored in the 1st Quarter but by Halftime the Firestorm held a 10-7 edge over the Lions. Both ACU and Langston notched a Field Goal in the 3rd Quarter, while the 4th saw the Firestorm shut out LU while putting up 14 points of their own for a 27-10 victory.
GETTING STUNG – This game pitted the SAINT AMBROSE UNIVERSITY FIGHTING BEES against the visiting UNIVERSITY OF SAINT FRANCIS (IL) FIGHTING SAINTS. The Fighting Saints grabbed a quick 6-0 lead in the 1st Quarter only to see the Fighting Bees go up 7-6 by the Half. After the break came a scoreless 3rd Quarter before Saint Ambrose University clinched a 14-6 win in the 4th.
YOU SAY CUMBERLAND AND I SAY CUMBERLANDS – The UNIVERSITY OF THE CUMBERLANDS PATRIOTS took the field against the CUMBERLAND UNIVERSITY PHOENIX. The Patriots were hammering the Phoenix 21-6 in the opening Quarter and never looked back from there! When all of the dust had settled in this one-sided contest the final tally was University of the Cumberlands 42 Cumberland University 12.
RED RIVER RUCKUS – The OKLAHOMA PANHANDLE STATE AGGIES (should be the Okies) hosted their Texas rivals the WAYLAND BAPTIST UNIVERSITY PIONEERS (should be the Flying Ws). By the midpoint of this game OPSU held a 19-10 advantage, which became 25-10 to end the 3rd Quarter. The Pioneers fought back in the 4th, pulling to within 25-18 but no further as the Aggies won it by that final score.
THIS GAME WAS FOR THE BIRDS – In this game the FAULKNER UNIVERSITY EAGLES (should be the Furies) engaged in a home stand against the POINT UNIVERSITY SKYHAWKS. A 7-3 1st Quarter lead for Faulkner University was chopped down to just 7-6 at the break. That became a 14-12 Eagles lead in the 3rd Quarter before Faulkner downed the Skyhawks 21-15.
A TALE OF TWO TIGERS TEAMS – The OLIVET NAZARENE UNIVERSITY TIGERS handily defeated the INDIANA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY WILDCATS to the tune of 44-20 ### And on the flip side of such success for a team called the Tigers, the THOMAS MORE COLLEGE SAINTS handed the CAMPBELLSVILLE UNIVERSITY TIGERS a 48-27 loss.
SHUTOUT – This contest featured the KENTUCKY CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS taking on their guests the BLUEFIELD COLLEGE RAMBLING RAMS. The Knights achieved defensive perfection while piling up points on the Rambling Rams. KCU led 7-0 in the 1st Quarter, 14-0 at the Half and 35-0 in the 3rd Quarter before winning it 45-0 in the 4th.
SAGU, SAG ME – The SOUTHWESTERN ASSEMBLIES OF GOD UNIVERSITY LIONS were visited by the TEXAS WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY RAMS yesterday. In this all-Texas affair the Lions parlayed a 10-0 lead in the 1st Quarter into a commanding 23-7 advantage come Halftime. From there SAGU coasted to victory over the sacrificial Rams (see what I did there) by a final count of 33-15.
TWO IN A ROW FOR THE LAKERS – The ROOSEVELT UNIVERSITY LAKERS, the team formed from the merger of Roosevelt University and Robert Morris University (IL), has now won their first two games under the new team name! This weekend’s opponents were the SAINT XAVIER UNIVERSITY COUGARS. The Lakers led 7-3 in the opening Quarter and 14-3 at the break. In the 3rd Quarter the teams exchanged a Touchdown apiece before Roosevelt U outscored the Cougars 13-7 in the 4th for a 34-17 victory.
