A TALE OF TWO HALVES – The SOUTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY FIRE took it on the road against the AVE MARIA UNIVERSITY GYRENES. The Gyrenes led 7-0 in the 1st Quarter and 13-10 at Halftime. From there the Fire shut out Ave Maria University while going on top 17-13 to end the 3rd Quarter and ultimately winning the game 24-13.
“GORILLA” WARFARE – Over in D2 the PITTSBURG (KS) STATE GORILLAS visited the WEST TEXAS A&M BUFFALOES. The Gorillas were out in front of their opponents 14-7, 28-21 and 35-28 in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Quarters, respectively. In the 4th, Pitt State polished off the Buffaloes by a final count of 42-28.
SPIRIT OF SIXTY-FOUR – This game pitted the DORDT COLLEGE DEFENDERS against their hosts the BRIAR CLIFF UNIVERSITY CHARGERS. The Defenders seized a 23-0 advantage in the opening Quarter and never looked back. Ultimately, Dordt College obliterated the Chargers to the tune of SIXTY-FOUR to NOTHING!
THE TROJAN WAR – The DAKOTA STATE TROJANS found themselves on the road against the MAYVILLE STATE COMETS. This was an up and down affair, with the Comets leading 14-0 in the 1st Quarter but the Trojans on top 30-14 by the Half. The 3rd Quarter ended with Dakota State leading 37-14 before holding on in the 4th for a 37-28 victory.
INTO THE THRESHER – The BETHEL (KS) THRESHERS welcomed the FRIENDS UNIVERSITY FALCONS yesterday. The Threshers were chasing the Falcons 19-7 in the 1st Quarter and 22-20 come Halftime, but from there Bethel College outscored Friends University 14-0 to win the game 34-22.
FEARFUL SYMMETRY – The DAKOTA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY BLUE TIGERS took the field against the visiting CONCORDIA (NE) BULLDOGS. A 7-7 1st Quarter tie became a 14-14 deadlock at the break. The Blue Tigers led 21-17 to end the 3rd Quarter before chalking up a 28-17 victory.
CAT AND MOUSE GAME – The SAINT THOMAS UNIVERSITY BOBCATS (should be Tomcats) played host to the WEBBER INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY WARRIORS. After a scoreless opening Quarter the Bobcats led 21-6 at Halftime. From there Saint Thomas U got even more separation, winning the game 31-13.
HORSEPOWER – The 2-time defending National Champions of NAIA football – the MORNINGSIDE COLLEGE MUSTANGS – took on the HASTINGS COLLEGE BRONCOS. The Mustangs utterly dominated the Broncos on both sides of the ball, making them their prison brides by a count of FIFTY-SEVEN to NOTHING.
ROAD RAGE – The BAKER UNIVERSITY WILDCATS traveled to face the MIDAMERICA NAZARENE UNIVERSITY PIONEERS on Saturday. Neither team scored in the 1st Quarter but the Wildcats led 7-0 at the Half. That became a 10-0 advantage to end the 3rd Quarter and finally a 24-3 triumph when all was said and done.
SHUTOUT – The NORTHWESTERN (IA) COLLEGE RED RAIDERS played host to the UNIVERSITY OF JAMESTOWN JIMMIES in this game. A 7-0 1st Quarter lead for the Red Raiders turned into a 21-0 advantage by Halftime. After the break Northwestern College coasted to a FORTY-NINE to NOTHING victory over the Jimmies.
