NUMBER TWO TAKES A FALL – In the NJCAA the 14th ranked IOWA CENTRAL COLLEGE TRITONS welcomed the number 2 team in the nation – the IOWA WESTERN COLLEGE REIVERS. The Tritons put the Reivers on Upset Alert with a 12-10 1st Quarter edge which became a tighter 18-17 lead at Halftime. The 3rd Quarter ended with Iowa Central College on top 21-17 before they won it 28-26 from there. The NJCAA’s number 1 East Mississippi College lost Thursday night.
ONE AND TWO ROLL – Meanwhile, up in the NAIA, the top ranked defending champions – the MORNINGSIDE COLLEGE MUSTANGS – annihilated the visiting UNIVERSITY OF SAINT FRANCIS (IL) FIGHTING SAINTS to the tune of EIGHTY to NOTHING ### And the number 2 BENEDICTINE COLLEGE RAVENS eviscerated their hosts the GRACELAND UNIVERSITY YELLOW JACKETS 72-7.
CELEBRATING FOOTBALL – Also in the NAIA the 4th ranked KANSAS WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY COYOTES welcomed the TEXAS WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY RAMS for their season-opening event called Celebrating Football. The Coyotes wound up doing all the celebrating, doubling up on the Rams for a 48-24 triumph.
SWENSON PRESENTATION – The Swenson Presentation pitted the MISSOURI VALLEY COLLEGE VIKINGS against the homestanding PERU STATE BOBCATS. The Vikings led 14-0 in the opening Quarter and 24-7 by the Half. From there Missouri Valley College coasted to a 27-14 victory.
COMMUNITY NIGHT – The WALDORF UNIVERSITY WARRIORS played host to the BRIAR CLIFF UNIVERSITY CHARGERS on Saturday’s Community Night. The Warriors held a 14-10 lead at the midpoint of the game, then scored the only points of the 2nd Half – a Field Goal in the 4th Quarter – for a thrilling 17-10 victory.
TOPPLING NUMBER SIX – Back to the NJCAA for this game between the number 10 BUTLER (KS) GRIZZLIES and the visiting 6th ranked SNOW COLLEGE BADGERS. The Grizzlies dominated in this clash, parlaying a 26-3 Halftime lead into a 36-17 Upset win.
THE LIGHTS THAT SUCCEEDED – The MONTANA STATE-NORTHERN LIGHTS pulled off one of the day’s biggest Upsets yesterday as they paid a visit to the mighty ARIZONA CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY FIRESTORM. The Lights capitalized on nearly every mistake made by the Firestorm, leading them 17-0 by the break. Arizona Christian University rallied in the 3rd Quarter, pulling to within 17-14 but Montana State-Northern notched a 4th Quarter Field Goal while shutting out the Firestorm to win the game 20-14.
CRUSADE IN IOWA – The 18th ranked EVANGEL UNIVERSITY CRUSADERS paid a visit to the WILLIAM PENN UNIVERSITY STATESMEN. The Crusaders’ 7-0 1st Quarter lead wound up as a 7-7 tie come the midpoint of the game. Neither team scored in the 3rd Quarter followed by Evangel University winning it 19-7 in the 4th.
IF IT ISN’T SCOTTISH IT’S CRAP! – The LYON COLLEGE SCOTS opened their 2019 campaign against the visiting MISSOURI BAPTIST UNIVERSITY SPARTANS. The defenses owned the 1st Half, resulting in no score by the break. In the 3rd Quarter the Spartans went up 10-7 only to see the Scots come back for a 14-10 win in the 4th.
DOUBLING UP ON THE COMPETITION – The TABOR COLLEGE BLUE JAYS stunned their hosts the SOUTHWESTERN ASSEMBLIES OF GOD UNIVERSITY LIONS by handing them a 40-20 loss ### And the FAULKNER UNIVERSITY EAGLES (should be the Furies) defeated the visiting BLUEFIELD COLLEGE RAMBLING RAMS by a count of 38-19.
SHOOTOUT IN KENTUCKY – The KENTUCKY CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS traveled to take on the THOMAS MORE COLLEGE SAINTS, who just moved over to the NAIA from the NCAA. A 21-7 1st Quarter lead for the Knights turned into a 34-14 advantage by Halftime. The Saints roared back to take a 35-34 edge in the 3rd Quarter but an action-packed 4th ended in a 54-49 KCU triumph.
UNDER THE RADAR CLASSICS – The TRINITY INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY TROJANS took it on the road against the PRESENTATION COLLEGE SAINTS (should be the Angels) and won a 28-26 nail-biter ### And the CINCINNATI CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY EAGLES survived a 20-17 visit from the WARNER UNIVERSITY ROYALS.
WELCOME TO THE GRIDIRON – The CENTRAL METHODIST UNIVERSITY EAGLES visited the CLARKE UNIVERSITY PRIDE, who were playing in their first-ever intercollegiate football game. The Eagles showed the Pride how intense the competition can be, blowing them away to the tune of 49-19.
HOME BLOWOUTS – The MAYVILLE STATE COMETS roasted and toasted the visiting LEWIS-CLARK VALLEY COLLEGE LOGGERS by a score of 47-8 ### Meanwhile the WAYLAND BAPTIST UNIVERSITY PIONEERS (should be the Flying W’s) downed the UNIVERSITY OF SAINT MARY SPIRES 35-13 ### And the HASTINGS COLLEGE BRONCOS clobbered the OKLAHOMA PANHANDLE STATE AGGIES (should be the Okies) 40-22.
ROAD BLOWOUTS – The (8) BAKER UNIVERSITY WILDCATS crushed the home-standing CULVER-STOCKTON COLLEGE WILDCATS in a 44-19 affair ### And the MIDLAND UNIVERSITY WARRIORS trounced the SOUTHWESTERN COLLEGE MOUNDBUILDERS 48-17.
DOWN GOES NUMBER ELEVEN – The TYLER COLLEGE APACHES traveled to take on the 11th ranked BLINN COLLEGE BUCCANEERS yesterday. A 20-0 Halftime lead for the Apaches became 27-7 in the 3rd Quarter. From there Tyler College had to hold on by their fingernails against a Buccaneers’ comeback attempt. The final tally was Apaches 27 Blinn College 24.
OTHER UPSETS IN THE RANKINGS – The only other Upset in the rankings came in the game between the NASSAU COUNTY COLLEGE LIONS and their guests the number 19 GEORGIA MILITARY COLLEGE BULLDOGS. The score was tied at 7-7 come the Half before the Bulldogs went up 14-7 in the 3rd Quarter. The 4th Quarter saw the Lions come back for a 21-17 Upset.
NUMBER THREE TRIUMPHS – Given the way the Top Two teams in the NJCAA fell on Thursday and Saturday respectively the 3rd ranked GARDEN CITY COLLEGE BRONCBUSTERS had their chance to move up. The Broncbusters visited the DODGE CITY COLLEGE CONQUISTADORS and absolutely hammered them 42-22.
HUTCH HOME-STAND – The number 5 HUTCHINSON COLLEGE BLUE DRAGONS hosted the INDEPENDENCE COLLEGE PIRATES. The 1st Half was a defensive epic with neither team scoring. The 3rd Quarter saw the offenses explode and ended in a 21-14 lead for the Blue Dragons. That wound up as the final score, making Hutchinson College 2-0.
SHUTOUTS – The (16) HIGHLAND COLLEGE SCOTTIES dispatched their guests the ELLSWORTH COLLEGE PANTHERS by a final score of 21-0 ### And the ITASCA COLLEGE VIKINGS eviscerated the homestanding MINNESOTA TECHNICAL COLLEGE SPARTANS in a 38-0 laugher.
HAWKS FLYING HIGH – The HOCKING COLLEGE HAWKS traveled to face the ERIE COLLEGE KATS (sic). The Hawks saw their 7-0 1st Quarter lead become a 7-7 tie at Halftime. In the 3rd Quarter Hocking College scored the only points of the 2nd Half for a thrilling 14-7 triumph.
ROAD WARRIORS – The LOUISBURG COLLEGE HURRICANES took it on the road against the MYRTLE BEACH PANTHERS and decimated them 44-0 ### And the FORT SCOTT COLLEGE GREYHOUNDS improved to 2-0 with a 40-29 win over the COFFEYVILLE COLLEGE RED RAVENS.
