DAY THREE, GAME ONE – One of the 1 seeds – the NOVA SOUTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY SHARKS (“or something” as Nicolas Cage would say) – took on their Region’s 5th seeded UNIVERSITY OF WEST ALABAMA TIGERS. By Halftime the Sharks were up on the Tigers 41-31 and for the rest of the game NSU kept their opponents at roughly that same distance. The final tally was Sharks 89 West Alabama 80. THIRTY-TWO points from Mark Matthews led Nova Southeastern.
DAY THREE, GAME TWO – The 2nd seeded AUGUSTA UNIVERSITY JAGUARS faced the 3 seeds – the UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH CAROLINA AT AIKEN PACERS. The Pacers were leading 37-28 at the break but the Jaguars roared back to force Overtime with an 84-84 tie. In the extra session Augusta University won it 93-89. Tyvez Monroe led the Jaguars with 21 points.
DAY THREE, GAME THREE – This game pitted another 1 seed – the QUEENS UNIVERSITY OF CHARLOTTE ROYALS – against the 4th seeded CATAWBA COLLEGE INDIANS. The Royals had compiled a 44-35 advantage by the midpoint but then had to hold on tight for a 96-93 victory. Daniel Carr put up THIRTY-THREE points to lead Queens University of Charlotte.
DAY THREE, GAME FOUR – The 2nd seeded WEST LIBERTY STATE HILLTOPPERS played the 3 seeds – the VIRGINIA STATE TROJANS. The Trojans had the Hilltoppers worried at Halftime with their 47-44 edge. In the 2nd Half West Liberty State came from behind to win the game 82-80 led by Dalton Bolon’s 21 points.
DAY THREE, GAME FIVE – One of the 3 seeds – the LYNN UNIVERSITY FIGHTING KNIGHTS – toppled the 2nd seeded FLORIDA SOUTHERN COLLEGE MOCCASINS in this game. The Fighting Knights put the Mocs on Upset Alert by the break, leading them 41-35. From there Lynn University carried through, defeating Florida Southern College 88-78 led by THIRTY-FIVE points from Michael Baez.
DAY THREE, GAME SIX – Another 1 seed fell in this clash as the 4 seeds – the UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHERN INDIANA SCREAMING EAGLES – took the court against the top seeded LEWIS UNIVERSITY FLYERS. The Screaming Eagles were chasing the Flyers 30-27 at the Half but ultimately overcame them for a 62-61 Upset. Lewis University joined Indiana University in Pennsylvania as a fallen 1 seed.
DAY THREE, GAME SEVEN – The 2nd seeded BELLARMINE UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS did battle with the 3 seeds – the UNIVERSITY OF FINDLAY OILERS. The Knights parlayed a tight 38-35 Halftime edge into a comfortable 74-59 victory. Bellarmine University was led in scoring by Adam Eberhard with THIRTY points.
DAY THREE, GAME EIGHT – This game pitted one of the 1 seeds – the SAINT ANSELM COLLEGE HAWKS – against the 4th seeded UNIVERSITY OF NEW HAVEN CHARGERS. An Instant Classic was in the offing here, as the 1st Half ended with the Hawks on top 35-31 but ultimately struggling to hold on for a 70-69 win. Sixteen points from Cody Ball led Saint Anselm College.
