Another college football season came to a close here at Balladeer’s Blog with the two final National Championship Games in the Divisions covered here.
NAIA
CHAMPIONSHIP GAME – The last two teams standing in the NAIA were the MORNINGSIDE COLLEGE MUSTANGS and the BENEDICTINE COLLEGE RAVENS. “No more choking” seemed to be the Mustangs’ slogan this postseason as they closed the deal. It wasn’t a sure thing, though, as a 14-14 1st Quarter tie turned into a 20-14 lead for the Ravens come Halftime.
In the 3rd Quarter Morningside College went on top 28-20, then in the 4th Benedictine College knotted things up at 28-28. The Mustangs went ahead 35-28 with just 1:29 left to play, then their Defense smothered the Ravens to make 35-28 the final count as well. * THE MUSTANGS ARE NATIONAL CHAMPIONS OF THE NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) *
NCAA DIVISION TWO
CHAMPIONSHIP GAME – The VALDOSTA STATE BLAZERS did battle with the FERRIS STATE BULLDOGS for the 2018 football title in NCAA Division Two. The Bulldogs ended the 1st Quarter with a 10-7 edge. After a huge 2nd Quarter the Blazers took a 28-24 advantage into the locker room at the break.
In the 3rd Quarter each team notched 14 more points, followed by Ferris State outscoring Valdosta State 9-7 in the 4th. The Blazers won a 49-47 game for the ages. * THE BLAZERS ARE NATIONAL CHAMPIONS OF NCAA DIVISION TWO *
Morningside didn’t screw up for once.
You could say that.
