COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYOFF RESULTS FROM NOVEMBER 24th

INSTANT CLASSIC IN KANSAS – This game pitted the KANSAS WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY COYOTES against the visiting DICKINSON STATE BLUE HAWKS. The Coyotes led 14-7 to end the opening Quarter but the Blue Hawks went up 28-21 at the Half. That was cut to a 34-28 Dickinson State edge in the 3rd Quarter before Kansas Wesleyan came from behind to win the game 43-40.

DEFENDING CHAMPS STILL ROLLING – The Defending National Champions – the UNIVERSITY OF SAINT FRANCIS (IN) COUGARS – hosted the BAKER UNIVERSITY WILDCATS yesterday. The Cougars trailed 7-0 in the 1st Quarter but went on top of the Wildcats 20-13 by Halftime. After the break USF outscored Baker 13-10 for a 33-23 victory.

THIS GAME WAS FOR THE BIRDS REDUX – The BENEDICTINE COLLEGE RAVENS took the field against their guests the CONCORDIA (MI) CARDINALS. This was a tale of two halves as the Ravens utterly dominated on both sides of the ball for a 37-0 lead at the midpoint. From there Benedictine College held the suddenly active Cardinals at a distance to win the game 54-38.

SIOUX CITY BECAME SMACKDOWN CITY – In this game the MORNINGSIDE COLLEGE MUSTANGS mashed, mangled and massacred the visiting SAINT XAVIER UNIVERSITY COUGARS. The Mustangs parlayed a 14-0 1st Quarter lead into a 28-7 Halftime advantage before going on to secure this blowout by a final score of FIFTY-ONE to FOURTEEN.

NCAA DIVISION TWO

DEFENDING CHAMPS KNOCKED OFF – Yesterday the TARLETON STATE TEXANS welcomed the Defending National Champions – the TEXAS A&M AT COMMERCE LIONS. A 3-0 Lions lead to end the 1st Quarter was the only edge for the champs. By the Half the Texans were on top 17-9 before going up 27-15 to start the 4th Quarter. Tarleton State withstood a Texas A&M at Commerce rally for a 34-28 triumph.

BEAR NECESSITIES – The LENOIR-RHYNE UNIVERSITY BEARS defended their home field from the WINGATE UNIVERSITY BULLDOGS. The Bears trailed 7-0 at the break and 10-7 to end the 3rd Quarter. In the 4th Lenoir-Rhyne University came from behind to defeat the Bulldogs 21-17.

NO, NOT THAT NOTRE DAME – Ohio’s NOTRE DAME COLLEGE FALCONS played host to the storied HILLSDALE COLLEGE CHARGERS in this 2nd Round game. After a scoreless 1st Quarter the Falcons led 10-0 come Halftime. The Chargers went on top 14-10 in the 3rd Quarter before Notre Dame College managed a 19-14 comeback win.

FIGHTING LIKE CATS AND DOGS – The home-standing FERRIS STATE BULLDOGS faced the dynastic NORTHWEST MISSOURI STATE BEARCATS. The Bulldogs were being pursued by the Bearcats 14-0, 20-7 and 27-14 in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Quarters respectively. In the 4th Ferris State held on to win the game 27-21.

MAVERICKS DIDN’T COME HERE TO LOSE – Okay, that title is a reference to the theme song from the Bret Maverick revival series in the 1980s. Anyway this game pitted the MINNESOTA STATE MAVERICKS against the visiting COLORADO STATE AT PUEBLO THUNDER WOLVES. The Mavericks were up 17-0 at Halftime and 24-10 in the 3rd Quarter. 24-10 held up as the final tally, too.

EYE OF THE TIGER – The OUACHITA BAPTIST UNIVERSITY TIGERS found themselves playing the traveling UNIVERSITY OF INDIANAPOLIS GREYHOUNDS yesterday. The Tigers held the Greyhounds to a mere 7 points, scored in the 2nd Quarter. Meanwhile OBU notched a 21-7 lead by the break enroute to a 35-7 victory.

THE ROCK ON THE ROAD – The SLIPPERY ROCK UNIVERSITY ROCK (sic) took it on the road against the UNIVERSITY OF NEW HAVEN CHARGERS on Saturday. The Rock led the Chargers 35-10 at Halftime and never looked back on their way to a 59-20 blowout victory.

OF BLAZERS AND BEATDOWNS – The VALDOSTA STATE BLAZERS battled the visiting BOWIE STATE BULLDOGS. The Blazers trailed 7-0 in the 1st Quarter but by the break had gone in front 21-16. In the 2nd Half Valdosta State got more and more separation from the Bulldogs, ultimately eviscerating them SIXTY-SIX to SIXTEEN.

NCAA DIVISION THREE

A ROYAL UPSET – The BETHEL (MN) ROYALS visited the NORTH CENTRAL COLLEGE CARDINALS on Saturday. The Royals trailed 7-0 in the 1st Quarter and 10-7 come Halftime. The 3rd Quarter ended with Bethel on top of the Cardinals 14-10 and from there the Royals won it 27-24.

ENGINEERING A WIN – Another Upset was in store as the RENSSELAER POLYTECHNICAL INSTITUTE ENGINEERS traveled to face the COLLEGE AT BROCKPORT GOLDEN EAGLES. This back and forth affair saw the Engineers leading 7-0 in the opening Quarter, the Golden Eagles up 13-7 at the break and RPI back in front 14-13 as the 4th Quarter began. The Engineers notched a 21-13 victory.

ROAD BLOWOUT – The JOHNS HOPKINS UNIVERSITY BLUE JAYS took on the home-standing FROSTBURG STATE BOBCATS. The Bobcats held a 20-19 edge at the Half but the Blue Jays regrouped in the locker room and seized a 48-20 advantage in the 3rd Quarter before winning the game 58-27.

DEJA VU? – Not so long ago two particular teams fought it out for the D3 title year after year after year. Yesterday both teams took one more step toward another clash. The MOUNT UNION PURPLE RAIDERS routed the visiting CENTRE COLLEGE COLONELS 51-35 and the UW-WHITEWATER WARHAWKS demolished their guests the SAINT NORBERT COLLEGE GREEN KNIGHTS 54-21.

CRUEL COLLEGEVILLE – The SAINT JOHN’S UNIVERSITY JOHNNIES welcomed the WHITWORTH UNIVERSITY PIRATES to Collegeville, MN for this 2nd Round game. The Johnnies converted a 7-3 1st Quarter edge into a 28-17 Halftime lead. SJU dominated the 2nd Half as well, ultimately clobbering the Pirates by a score of 45-24.

KICK LIKE A MULE – This game pitted the MUHLENBERG COLLEGE MULES against the visiting RANDOLPH-MACON COLLEGE YELLOW JACKETS. The Mules limited the Yellow Jackets to just 6 points and those were scored in the 1st Quarter. Muhlenberg College, meanwhile, racked up points in every Quarter on their way to a comfortable 35-6 victory.

ONE TEAM WAS PLAYING BASKETBALL – The UNIVERSITY OF MARY HARDIN-BAYLOR CRUSADERS were less than gracious hosts to the BERRY COLLEGE VIKINGS on Saturday. The Crusaders raced off to a 28-0 1st Quarter lead and never looked back. When all was said and done UMHB obliterated the Vikings by a final tally of SEVENTY-FIVE to NINE!
