COLLEGE FOOTBALL RESULTS FROM NOVEMBER 3rd

Thomas More SaintsSAINTS PRESERVE US! – NCAA Division Three’s THOMAS MORE COLLEGE SAINTS borrowed a page from NAIA football yesterday by defeating a team from NCAA Division TWO – in this case the LAKE ERIE COLLEGE STORM. By Halftime the Saints had compiled a 28-0 advantage, then coasted to a 44-zip shutout of the higher division team.

Benedictine RavensDOWN GOES NUMBER FIVE – Up in the NAIA the 8th ranked BENEDICTINE COLLEGE RAVENS traveled to face the number 5 team in the nation – the GRAND VIEW UNIVERSITY VIKINGS (should be the Zebras). A 7-7 1st Quarter tie became 10-10 at the break and then 13-13 to end the 3rd. From there the Ravens exploded offensively to win the game 25-13. 

Fort Hays State Tigers NEWANOTHER NUMBER FIVE TAKES A FALL – In NCAA Division Two the number 22 FORT HAYS STATE TIGERS were on the road against the country’s 5th ranked NORTHWEST MISSOURI STATE BEARCATS. The Tigers grabbed a quick 14-0 lead in the 1st Quarter but the Bearcats cut that to just 14-10 by the Half. In the 3rd Quarter the Fort Hays State edge was whittled down to 17-16, which wound up as the final tally, too, since the Defenses dominated the 4th.

dean-college-bulldogs-helmet-newUSCAA GAME OF THE WEEK – The USCAA’s DEAN COLLEGE BULLDOGS hosted the CASTLETON UNIVERSITY SPARTANS (should be the Time Chasers) in the Game of the Week from the USCAA (United States Collegiate Athletic Association). After a scoreless opening Quarter the Spartans led it 10-0 come Halftime. The Bulldogs went up 12-10 in the 3rd Quarter, following which the teams exchanged Touchdowns in the 4th for a 19-17 Dean College triumph.

Dixie State Trailblazers NEWKNOCKING OFF NUMBER NINE – Back in NCAA D2 the DIXIE STATE TRAILBLAZERS defended their home field against the number 9 team in the nation – the COLORADO SCHOOL OF MINES OREDIGGERS. After a 10-10 1st Quarter tie the Trailblazers took a 24-17 lead by the break. From there Dixie State maintained enough distance for a 52-45 shootout win.

Southern Nazarene Crimson Storm NEWBEAT THE BULLDOGS – Each week Balladeer’s Blog recognizes a cool-named team for defeating a team with an overused name like Eagles, Tigers, Bulldogs or Wildcats. This week that distinction goes to D2’s SOUTHERN NAZARENE UNIVERSITY CRIMSON STORM for their 35-23 home-stand against the SOUTHWESTERN OKLAHOMA STATE BULLDOGS. 

East Mississippi College Lions helmet profileTOP THREE ROLLING – In the NJCAA the (1) EAST MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE LIONS spanked the (16) COPIAH-LINCOLN WOLFPACK 31-7   ###    Meanwhile the (2) GARDEN CITY COLLEGE BRONCBUSTERS edged their hosts the (4) HUTCHINSON COLLEGE BLUE DRAGONS 24-21   ###    And the (3) IOWA WESTERN COLLEGE REIVERS won a 19-14 thriller at the (12) BUTLER (KS) GRIZZLIES.

College of Idaho Coyotes NEW HELMETOTHER UPSETS IN THE TOP TWENTY-FIVE – The COLLEGE OF IDAHO COYOTES took it on the road against the (20) UNIVERSITY OF MONTANA-WESTERN BULLDOGS and won a 17-14 Instant Classic    ###    And the BRIAR CLIFF UNIVERSITY CHARGERS marked Senior Day with a 44-20 smackdown of the (22) MIDLAND UNIVERSITY WARRIORS.

Arizona Christian Univ helmet GOODHAPPY HOMECOMING – The ARIZONA CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY FIRESTORM hosted the SOUTHWESTERN ASSEMBLIES OF GOD UNIVERSITY LIONS yesterday. The Lions led 14-7 in the 1st Quarter and 24-14 at Halftime. The Firestorm went on top 27-24 in the 3rd Quarter before winning the game 34-30. 

Texas Wesleyan U Rams NEWONE-POINT WONDERS – The TEXAS WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY RAMS won a thrilling 21-20 affair against the visiting LYON COLLEGE SCOTS    ###     And the UNION (KY) COLLEGE BULLDOGS defeated the home-standing POINT UNIVERSITY SKYHAWKS by the exact same score of 21-20.

HillsdaleOTHER UPSETS IN THE TOP TWENTY-FIVE – The storied HILLSDALE COLLEGE CHARGERS welcomed the (15) TIFFIN UNIVERSITY DRAGONS and sent them home reeling from a 48-26 defeat    ###     And the WASHBURN UNIVERSITY ICHABODS notched a 40-23 road win at the (25) PITTSBURG (KS) STATE GORILLAS.

Colorado Mesa Mavericks helmetSHOOTOUT – The COLORADO MESA UNIVERSITY MAVERICKS took the field against the visiting ADAMS STATE GRIZZLIES yesterday. The Mavericks were chasing the Grizzlies 35-24 at Halftime but came back for a 57-57 tie to force Overtime. In the extra session a missed PAT was the difference as CMU prevailed 64-63.

Arkansas Monticello helmetALL-NAME GAMES – The ARKANSAS UNIVERSITY AT MONTICELLO BOLL WEEVILS managed an exciting 24-17 road win over the HENDERSON STATE REDDIES    ###    Meanwhile the WALSH UNIVERSITY CAVALIERS survived a 42-39 visit from the ALDERSON-BROADDUS UNIVERSITY BATTLERS   ###   And the MISSOURI WESTERN GRIFFONS topped their hosts the NEBRASKA-KEARNEY LOPERS 25-17.

Concordia_MISENIOR DAY FOR NUMBER ONE – The number 1 CONCORDIA (MI) CARDINALS – who are also ranked 15th in the NAIA standings – played host to the INDIANA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY WILDCATS on Saturday. It was a very happy Senior Day for the Cardinals in a very, VERY lopsided 55-7 rout of the Wildcats.

Ottawa (AZ) SpiritTEAM SPIRIT – The (3) OTTAWA (AZ) UNIVERSITY SPIRIT are in just their very first year of intercollegiate football but have been surprising opponents all season long! Yesterday the 6-3 Spirit folded, spindled and mutilated the visiting WAYLAND BAPTIST UNIVERSITY PIONEERS (should be the Flying W’s). Ottawa U won it SEVENTY-FIVE to FOURTEEN!

Warner Memorial U Royals helmetA ROYAL VICTORY – The (7) WARNER UNIVERSITY ROYALS traveled to face the FAULKNER UNIVERSITY EAGLES (should be the Furies). The Royals faced a 31-14 deficit at the Half but came roaring back from there for a 35-34 victory in this undeniable Instant Classic.

Northwestern mn eagles NEWWORKIN’ OVERTIME – The UNIVERSITY OF NORTHWESTERN (MN) EAGLES found themselves on the road against the WESTMINSTER (MO) BLUE JAYS. After a scoreless 1st Quarter the Blue Jays held a 7-0 advantage at the break. The Eagles rallied in the 4th Quarter for a 17-17 tie before winning the game 20-17 in Overtime.

NCAA DIVISION THREE

Wesley WolverinesUPSETS IN THE TOP TWENTY-FIVE – There was only one Upset in the D3 rankings yesterday and it came in the game between the WESLEY COLLEGE WOLVERINES and their hosts the 18th ranked SALISBURY UNIVERSITY SEA GULLS. The Wolverines trailed 13-0 at Halftime but forced Overtime with a 13-13 tie to end Regulation. In the extra session they shut out the Sea Gulls then scored a TD for a 19-13 triumph.

Nebraska Wesleyan Prairie Wolves helmets NEWUNDER THE RADAR CLASSICS – The NEBRASKA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY PRAIRIE WOLVES took on the visiting BUENA VISTA UNIVERSITY BEAVERS and defeated them 32-25    ###   Meanwhile the LA VERNE UNIVERSITY LEOPARDS won a 26-20 road game at the CAL LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY KINGSMEN   ###   And the LAKELAND COLLEGE MUSKIES outlasted the EUREKA COLLEGE RED DEVILS 56-55.

Southern_VirginiaWE WENT TO A FOOTBALL GAME BUT A BASEBALL GAME BROKE OUT – The SOUTHERN VIRGINIA UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS (should be the Danites) welcomed the WILLIAM PATERSON UNIVERSITY PIONEERS. The Pioneers led 3-0 at the midpoint but the Knights staged a rally in the 4th Quarter to win it 8-3. 

NJCAA

Eastern Arizona CollegeWHEN RANKED TEAMS CLASH – The (14) EASTERN ARIZONA COLLEGE GILA MONSTERS defended their home field against the (17) ARIZONA WESTERN COLLEGE MATADORS with a 21-0 shutout    ###    And the (6) JONES COUNTY COLLEGE BOBCATS upset their guests the (5) NORTHWEST MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE RANGERS 36-34. 

ASA CollegeAVENGERS ASSEMBLE – The storied ASA (NY) COLLEGE AVENGERS played host to the LOUISBURG COLLEGE HURRICANES. The Avengers seized a quick 7-6 edge in the 1st Quarter and expanded that to 20-13 by Halftime. In the 2nd Half the two teams exchanged Touchdowns as ASA College defeated the Hurricanes 27-20.

Iowa Central TritonsALL-NAME HOME-STANDS – The IOWA CENTRAL COLLEGE TRITONS clobbered the FORT SCOTT COLLEGE GREYHOUNDS to the tune of 43-9   ###    The SCOTTSDALE COLLEGE FIGHTING ARTICHOKES topped the MESA COLLEGE THUNDERBIRDS 38-22   ###   And the HIGHLAND COLLEGE SCOTTIES edged the INDEPENDENCE COLLEGE PIRATES by a score of 24-21.  

Northland College PioneersBLOWOUT – The NORTHLAND COLLEGE PIONEERS took the field against the visiting MESABI RANGE COLLEGE NORSE. The Pioneers parlayed a 14-0 1st Quarter lead into a 34-0 advantage at the Half. From there Northland College coasted to a FIFTY-THREE to SEVEN manhandling of the Norse.
