DIVISION TWO OVER DIVISION ONE – The UNIVERSITY OF WEST FLORIDA ARGONAUTS, from NCAA Division Two, traveled to take on Division ONE’s UNIVERSITY OF NORTH ALABAMA LIONS yesterday. A 10-10 Halftime tie became a 17-13 edge for the Argonauts in the 3rd Quarter and ultimately a 24-19 upset! This is like when a 1aa team topples a 1a team for you newbies.
KNOCKING OFF NUMBER TWO – Over in the NAIA the 21st ranked ROCKY MOUNTAIN COLLEGE BATTLIN’ BEARS welcomed the number 2 team in the nation – the SOUTHERN OREGON UNIVERSITY RAIDERS (should be the Sea Gulls). After a scoreless 1st Quarter the Battlin’ Bears put SOU on Upset Alert with a 17-14 lead at the break. In the 2nd Half Rocky Mountain College outscored the Raiders 17-7 for a 34-21 triumph.
FIRST-EVER WIN FOR U.N.E. – Moving to NCAA Division Three, the UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND NOR’EASTERS are in their very first year of intercollegiate football. On Saturday they took on the visiting CURRY COLLEGE COLONELS and came back from a 14-7 1st Quarter deficit to go on top 28-21 by the midpoint. From there the Nor’easters had to hold on for a 44-42 victory, the FIRST in program history.
DOWN GOES NUMBER FIVE – Back to the NAIA for this game, which pitted the homestanding 14th ranked CONCORDIA (MI) CARDINALS against the country’s number 5 team – the UNIVERSITY OF SAINT FRANCIS (IN) COUGARS. This was a defensive epic with neither team scoring until the 3rd Quarter, when the Cougars eked out a 3-0 edge. The Cardinals went on to win it 7-3 in the 4th.
USCAA GAME OF THE WEEK – The WILLIAMSON COLLEGE OF THE TRADES MECHANICS traveled to face the THADDEUS STEVENS COLLEGE OF TECHNOLOGY BULLDOGS. The Mechanics led 8-0 in the 1st Quarter and 21-6 at the Half. From there Williamson had to hold on by their fingertips for a 21-19 victory on a blocked Thaddeus field goal.
NUMBER SIX TAKES A FALL – NCAA Division Two’s number 9 NORTHWEST MISSOURI STATE BEARCATS took it on the road against the 6th ranked PITTSBURG (KS) STATE GORILLAS. The storied Bearcats converted a 7-0 1st Quarter lead into a 28-0 advantage by Halftime. After the break Northwest Missouri State coasted to a 31-7 triumph.
MARATHON GAME OF THE DAY – That designation goes to the NAIA clash between the WAYLAND BAPTIST UNIVERSITY PIONEERS and their guests the LYON COLLEGE SCOTS. A 21-3 Pioneers lead at the Half turned into a 31-31 tie to end Regulation. The 1st Overtime ended in a 34-34 deadlock, followed by 37-37 and 43-43 ties in the 2nd and 3rd OTs. Finally, in the FOURTH OVERTIME, Wayland Baptist University emerged with a 49-43 win!
NUMBER EIGHT IS TOPPLED – In the NJCAA the 11th ranked BLINN COLLEGE BUCCANEERS welcomed the number 8 team in the nation – the NORTHEASTERN OKLAHOMA A&M GOLDEN NORSEMEN. A 28-14 Halftime lead for the Buccaneers became 42-14 in the 3rd Quarter and finally a 56-28 defeat for the Golden Norsemen.
SAFETY FIRST – Returning to the USCAA (United States Collegiate Athletic Association), the NEWPORT NEWS APPRENTICE SCHOOL BUILDERS (formerly the Shipbuilders) achieved practical defensive perfection against the homestanding ROBERT MORRIS (Peoria) EAGLES. The Builders delivered a 49-2 beatdown to their opponents.

UPSETS IN THE TOP TWENTY-FIVE – The WALDORF COLLEGE WARRIORS toppled the visiting (16) DICKINSON STATE BLUE HAWKS in a 23-22 Pink Out ### The OTTAWA (AZ) UNIVERSITY SPIRIT dismembered the (19) ARIZONA CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY FIRESTORM 73-28 ### Meanwhile the (22) MONTANA-WESTERN BULLDOGS logged a Homecoming upset of the (20) MONTANA TECH OREDIGGERS ### And the AVE MARIA UNIVERSITY GYRENES won a 23-20 clash with the (24) SOUTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY FIRE.
FALL FEST – The BETHEL (KS) THRESHERS celebrated Fall Fest with a home game against the MCPHERSON COLLEGE BULLDOGS (should be the Mastiffs). This shootout saw the Threshers on top 21-14, 28-21 and 35-28 in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Quarters, respectively. In the 4th Bethel outscored Mcpherson 21-14 for a 56-42 win.
HAPPY HOMECOMINGS – The UNIVERSITY OF JAMESTOWN JIMMIES edged the BRIAR CLIFF UNIVERSITY CHARGERS by a score of 34-32 ### Meanwhile the (8) EVANGEL UNIVERSITY CRUSADERS doubled-up on the GRACELAND YELLOW JACKETS 34-17 ### The PRESENTATION COLLEGE SAINTS won 47-37 against the MAYVILLE STATE COMETS ### And the (11) KANSAS WESLEYAN COYOTES mauled the UNIVERSITY OF SAINT MARY SPIRES 56-0.

UPSETS IN THE TOP TWENTY-FIVE – The EMPORIA STATE HORNETS welcomed the (12) FORT HAYS STATE TIGERS and upset them in a 28-24 thriller ### The SLIPPERY ROCK UNIVERSITY ROCKETS defeated the homestanding (13) INDIANA UNIVERSITY IN PENNSYLVANIA CRIMSON HAWKS 30-27 ### And the BEMIDJI STATE BEAVERS surprised the visiting (21) UNIVERSITY OF SIOUX FALLS COUGARS 25-21.
HILLSDALE ON THE ROAD – The storied HILLSDALE COLLEGE CHARGERS trailed their hosts the UNIVERSITY OF FINDLAY OILERS 7-0 in the 1st Quarter before going on top 14-10 at Halftime. The 3rd Quarter ended in a 17-17 tie before the Chargers went on to defeat the Oilers 20-17.
HOMECOMING AT THE REDWOOD BOWL – Yesterday the HUMBOLDT STATE LUMBERJACKS welcomed Canada’s SIMON FRASER UNIVERSITY CLAN (as in Scottish Clan). The Redwood Bowl was rocking as the Lumberjacks led 16-7 at the break on their way to a 23-16 triumph.

NUMBER THREE ROLLS – The country’s number 3 SOUTHWESTERN ASSEMBLIES OF GOD UNIVERSITY LIONS played host to the TEXAS COLLEGE STEERS on Saturday evening. The Lions proceeded to rope and brand the Steers, nearly doubling up on them in the end by a final score of 48-28.
SHUTOUT FOR B.C. – The (4) BLUEFIELD COLLEGE RAMBLING RAMS took the field against the ALLEN UNIVERSITY YELLOW JACKETS. The Rambling Rams seized a 14-0 1st Quarter lead and never looked back from there. Ultimately Bluefield College sent the Yellow Jackets home reeling from a 45-0 smackdown.
OVERTIME AFFAIR – The EDWARD WATERS COLLEGE TIGERS traveled to take on the NCCAA’s WARNER UNIVERSITY ROYALS. Though the Royals led it 17-13 at Halftime the Tigers forced Overtime with a 27-27 tie to end Regulation. In the extra session Edward Waters College emerged with a 33-30 victory.

NUMBER FIVE SURVIVES A SCARE – No upsets in Division Three’s Top 25 yesterday but the number 5 team in the nation – the FROSTBURG STATE BOBCATS – got a scare at the 6th ranked WESLEY COLLEGE WOLVERINES. A 21-14 Halftime lead for the Bobcats was cut to 21-20 to end the 3rd Quarter and ultimately a 35-34 win.
SERVICE ACADEMY RESULTS – The MERCHANT MARINE ACADEMY MARINERS came back from a 17-10 deficit against the visiting NORWICH UNIVERSITY CADETS to win it 33-24 ### While the UNITED STATES COAST GUARD ACADEMY BEARS fell 26-12 on the road against the SPRINGFIELD COLLEGE PRIDE.
RED AND GREEN – The DICKINSON COLLEGE RED DEVILS led their hosts the MCDANIEL COLLEGE GREEN TERROR 10-0 in the 1st Quarter and 17-7 at the break. The Red Devils kept the Green Terror at arm’s length in the 2nd Half, ultimately going back home with a 27-20 victory.

NUMBER TEN TAKES A FALL – In this game the ARIZONA WESTERN COLLEGE MATADORS took on the visiting SCOTTSDALE COLLEGE FIGHTING ARTICHOKES. The Matadors trailed 10-7 in the 1st Quarter but went on top 14-10 in the 2nd and never looked back from there. The final score was Arizona Western College 37 Fighting Artichokes 19.
A TALE OF TWO ASA TEAMS – The ASA (FL) COLLEGE SILVER STORM played host to the ADVANCED PREP ACADEMY PANTHERS and utterly annihilated them by a score of 56-0 ### But the ASA (NY) COLLEGE AVENGERS fell on the road to the (6) LACKAWANNA COLLEGE FALCONS in a 30-26 Instant Classic.
HOMESTANDS – The COLLEGE OF DUPAGE CHAPARRALS defeated their guests the ERIE COLLEGE KATS by a count of 37-26 ### Meanwhile the HUTCHINSON COLLEGE BLUE DRAGONS survived a 16-13 visit from the HIGHLAND COLLEGE SCOTTIES ### And the DODGE CITY COLLEGE CONQUISTADORS eked out a 22-21 win over the COFFEYVILLE COLLEGE RED RAVENS.
