DRAGONS R BALL Z – The VIRGINIA UNIVERSITY OF LYNCHBURG DRAGONS out of the NCCAA (National Christian College Athletic Association) took on an opponent a Division higher yesterday. They traveled to face NCAA Division TWO’s FORT VALLEY STATE WILDCATS and seized a quick 10-0 1st Quarter lead. That remained unchanged by the Half, following which the Dragons outscored the Wildcats 21-14 to win the game 31-14.
KNOCKING OFF NUMBER ONE – The NAIA’s 6th ranked MARIAN UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS visited the number 1 team in the nation – the Defending Champion UNIVERSITY OF SAINT FRANCIS COUGARS. The Knights trailed 14-13 at Halftime but went on top of the Cougars 27-21 to end the 3rd Quarter. From there Marian University dominated the 4th for a 37-28 Upset victory.
NUMBER TWO TAKES A FALL – Meanwhile, over in NCAA Division Two, the CALIFORNIA UNIVERSITY OF PENNSYLVANIA VULCANS (as in the Roman god Vulcan) played host to the country’s 2nd ranked INDIANA UNIVERSITY IN PENNSYLVANIA CRIMSON HAWKS. The Vulcans were chasing the Crimson Hawks 14-7 in the 1st Quarter and 14-10 at the Half. From there Cal (PA) outscored IUP 26-10 to win it 36-24.
NUMBER FOUR DEFEATED – In the NJCAA the PIMA COLLEGE AZTECS took on the visiting number 4 team in the nation – the SCOTTSDALE COLLEGE FIGHTING ARTICHOKES. The Aztecs took a 6-3 lead in the opening Quarter and held off the Fighting Artichokes to the point where 13-9 was the closest they got, and that not until the 3rd Quarter. Ultimately Pima College shocked the country with a 23-9 upset win.
“THAT WAS NUMBER FIIIIIIVE” – Down in NCAA Division Three the number 21 WHEATON COLLEGE THUNDER found themselves on the road against the 5th ranked NORTH CENTRAL (IL) CARDINALS. The Thunder put the Cardinals on Upset Alert with a 31-23 Halftime lead which wound up as a comfortable 52-30 victory.
TOPPLING NUMBER EIGHT – Returning to NCAA D2 the WEST TEXAS A&M BUFFALOES visited the country’s number 8 CENTRAL WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY WILDCATS. After a scoreless 1st Quarter the Buffaloes led 16-7 at the break but then had to hold on by their fingertips for a 28-26 Upset win.
DOWN GOES NUMBER NINE – Back in the NAIA the 14th ranked BETHEL (TN) WILDCATS rained on Homecoming for the number 9 team in the nation – the GEORGETOWN (KY) COLLEGE TIGERS. The 4th Quarter of this shootout ended in a 43-43 tie. In Overtime the Wildcats held off a daring Georgetown College 2-point conversion attempt to preserve a 50-49 triumph.
HILLSDALE HEROICS – D2’s storied HILLSDALE COLLEGE CHARGERS were on the road against the MALONE UNIVERSITY PIONEERS. A 14-14 1st Quarter tie became a 24-21 edge for the Chargers come Halftime. After the break Hillsdale College got more and more separation from the Pioneers to win it 45-35.
OTHER UPSETS IN THE TOP TWENTY-FIVE – The (16) BENEDICTINE COLLEGE RAVENS toppled their hosts the (11) BAKER UNIVERSITY WILDCATS 23-12 ### Meanwhile the AVE MARIA UNIVERSITY GYRENES survived a 21-20 visit from the (21) FAULKNER UNIVERSITY EAGLES (should be the Furies) ### And the SOUTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY FIRE upset the homestanding (22) WEBBER INTERNATIONAL WARRIORS in a 20-17 nailbiter.
SMOKY HILL SHOWDOWN – It was more like the Smoky Hill Smackdown yesterday as the (12) KANSAS WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY COYOTES paid a call on the BETHANY COLLEGE SWEDES. A reasonably close 35-24 Halftime advantage for the Coyotes ultimately ended as a SEVENTY to TWENTY-FOUR laugher.
UNDER THE RADAR CLASSICS – The PERU STATE BOBCATS notched a 24-19 road victory over the MIDAMERICA NAZARENE UNIVERSITY PIONEERS ### Meanwhile the SOUTHWESTERN COLLEGE MOUNDBUILDERS edged the visiting AVILA UNIVERSITY EAGLES (formerly the Avalanche) in a 51-49 shootout ### And the PRESENTATION COLLEGE SAINTS won at the VALLEY CITY STATE VIKINGS 37-30.
HAPPY HOMECOMINGS – The LYON COLLEGE SCOTS marked their Homecoming celebrations with a 29-16 triumph over the OKLAHOMA PANHANDLE STATE AGGIES (should be the Okies) ### The MIDLAND UNIVERSITY WARRIORS needed OT to defeat the UNIVERSITY OF JAMESTOWN JIMMIES 35-28 ### And the BRIAR CLIFF UNIVERSITY CHARGERS won a 20-13 affair against the DAKOTA WESLEYAN TIGERS.
UNHAPPY HOMECOMINGS – The STERLING COLLEGE WARRIORS thoroughly dampened Homecoming for the UNIVERSITY OF SAINT MARY SPIRES by handing them a 44-12 thrashing ### And the (18) DICKINSON STATE BLUE HAWKS defeated their hosts the DAKOTA STATE TROJANS in a much tighter 33-27 gridiron clash.

CATCH TWENTY-TWO BECOMES UPSET TWENTY-TWO – In the only other Upset in D2’s rankings on Saturday the NORTH GREENVILLE UNIVERSITY CRUSADERS surprised the visiting 22nd ranked UNIVERSITY OF WEST ALABAMA TIGERS. The Crusaders trailed 7-0 in the 1st Quarter, led 10-7 at Halftime, then trailed again 16-10 to end the 3rd Quarter. North Greenville came back in the 4th for a dramatic 20-16 victory.
WORKIN’ OVERTIME – The (7) PITTSBURG (KS) STATE GORILLAS emerged with a 27-24 OT victory over the homestanding LINDENWOOD UNIVERSITY LIONS ### And the ADAMS STATE GRIZZLIES defeated their guests the FORT LEWIS COLLEGE SKYHAWKS in a 48-42 Overtime thriller.
JOLTIN’ JAVELINAS – The TEXAS A&M AT KINGSVILLE JAVELINAS welcomed the NEW MEXICO HIGHLANDS UNIVERSITY COWBOYS yesterday. The Javelinas led 23-17 at Halftime but the Cowboys moved to within 26-24 in the 3rd Quarter. From there TAMU-Kingsville managed an exciting 33-30 win.
ALL-NAME GAMES – The MINNESOTA STATE AT MOORHEAD DRAGONS won a 17-13 road game against the UPPER IOWA UNIVERSITY PEACOCKS ### Meanwhile the MOREHOUSE COLLEGE MAROON TIGERS defeated the homestanding KENTUCKY STATE THOROBREDS 23-21 ### And the SOUTHEASTERN OKLAHOMA STATE SAVAGE STORM crushed the NORTHWESTERN OKLAHOMA STATE RANGERS to the tune of 37-9.
TOP TWO ROLL – The top ranked CONCORDIA (MI) CARDINALS took out their anger over last week’s loss on this week’s opponents, the LINDENWOOD UNIVERSITY AT BELLEVILLE LYNX. The Cardinals won it SEVENTY-ONE to NOTHING! ### And the number 2 CAMBELLSVILLE UNIVERSITY TIGERS won a 35-27 Instant Classic at the 8th ranked KENTUCKY CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS.
ONE-POINT WONDER – The BELHAVEN UNIVERSITY BLAZERS traveled to face off against the HOWARD PAYNE UNIVERSITY YELLOW JACKETS. A 7-7 Halftime tie became a 14-13 Blazers lead to end the 3rd Quarter. Howard Payne went on top 19-14 in the 4th only to see Belhaven University take a 20-19 edge with just 20 seconds remaining in the game. 20-19 held up as the final score.
THE LIONS ROAR – The (4) SOUTHWESTERN ASSEMBLIES OF GOD UNIVERSITY LIONS took on the visiting (5) OTTAWA (AZ) UNIVERSITY SPIRIT. The Lions parlayed a 14-10 1st Quarter edge into a 28-17 advantage at the break and a 49-20 lead in the 3rd. In the end SAGU crushed the Spirit by a tally of 56-34.
HOW GREEN IS THEIR VILLE – The GREENVILLE COLLEGE PANTHERS traveled to play the WESTMINSTER (MO) BLUE JAYS. The Panthers led the Blue Jays 12-7 in the opening Quarter and 18-14 at the Half on their way to a 24-20 victory in this undeniable Instant Classic.
NUMBER ONE GETS A SCARE – The top ranked WILLIAMSON COLLEGE OF THE TRADES MECHANICS visited the GEORGE MASON UNIVERSITY PATRIOTS (C) on Saturday. The Mechanics held a 13-6 lead over GMU at the midpoint of the game and then held on for all they were worth for a 13-12 road win.
ONE TEAM WAS PLAYING BASKETBALL – The number 2 NEWPORT NEWS APPRENTICE SCHOOL BUILDERS (formerly the Shipbuilders) took it on the road against the LONGWOOD UNIVERSITY LANCERS. The Builders proceeded to fold, spindle and mutilate the Lancers by a lopsided final tally of SIXTY-THREE to NOTHING!
LETHAL LIPPERT FIELD – The DEAN COLLEGE BULLDOGS welcomed the ALFRED STATE PIONEERS to iconic Lippert Field. The opening Quarter ended in a 6-6 tie but by the Half the Bulldogs were on top 26-12. From there Dean College got more and more separation for an authoritative 44-26 triumph.
MOUNT NOT SO PLEASANT – Mount Pleasant, Iowa became VERY unpleasant for the visiting football team yesterday. The IOWA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY TIGERS took the field against the CROWN COLLEGE STORM. The Tigers utterly dominated the Storm on both sides of the ball for a FORTY-FOUR to SEVEN rout.

UPSETS IN THE TOP TWENTY-FIVE – The WHITWORTH UNIVERSITY PIRATES hosted the 11th ranked LINFIELD COLLEGE WILDCATS yesterday and after trailing 7-0 at the break toppled their guests 19-14 ### And the MUHLENBERG COLLEGE MULES absolutely dominated the number 24 FRANKLIN & MARSHALL COLLEGE DIPLOMATS in a 42-21 rout.
TIGHT CONTEST – The MARIETTA COLLEGE PIONEERS took the field against the visiting OHIO NORTHERN UNIVERSITY POLAR BEARS. The Pioneers led the Polar Bears 28-21 at the break and 35-28 in the 3rd Quarter. The 4th saw Marietta College holding on against a furious UNO rally to win it 43-42.
ENGINEERS OVER MARINERS … TWICE – The MASSACHUSETTS INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY ENGINEERS survived a 31-24 visit from the MERCHANT MARINE ACADEMY MARINERS ### Meanwhile the WORCESTER POLYTECHNIC INSTITUTE ENGINEERS defeated the homestanding MAINE MARITIME MARINERS in a 30-7 affair.
BLUE BRUISERS – On Saturday the ILLINOIS COLLEGE BLUE BOYS played host to the BELOIT COLLEGE BUCCANEERS at England Stadium. The Blue Boys got off to a quick 20-0 lead in the 1st Quarter and never looked back from there. In the end Illinois College sent the Buccaneers home reeling from a SIXTY-THREE to TWENTY beatdown.
WHEN RANKED TEAMS CLASH – The (7) HUTCHINSON COLLEGE BLUE DRAGONS visited the (12) BUTLER (KS) GRIZZLIES yesterday and defeated them 27-13 ### And the (13) EASTERN ARIZONA COLLEGE GILA MONSTERS pounded their hosts the (17) MESA COLLEGE THUNDERBIRDS to the tune of 49-26.
HOMECOMING – The TYLER COLLEGE APACHES celebrated Homecoming with a game against the NEW MEXICO MILITARY INSTITUTE BRONCOS (should be the Cavalry). The Apaches kept the Broncos off the scoreboard til the 3rd Quarter while putting up 17 points in the 1st Half. The final tally in this game was Tyler College 38 New Mexico Military Institute 14.
THE MIGHTY AVENGERS – The ASA (NY) COLLEGE AVENGERS were back in action against the NEW JERSEY WARRIORS on Saturday. The Avengers dominated the Warriors on both sides of the ball, ultimately emerging with an impressive FIFTY-FIVE to TWENTY victory.
BLOWOUTS – The HOCKING COLLEGE HAWKS converted a mere 16-14 1st Quarter edge into a SIXTY-FOUR to FOURTEEN slaughter of the HAYWOOD CRUSADERS ### Meanwhile the KILGORE COLLEGE RANGERS annihilated their hosts the TEXAS A&T DRILLERS to the tune of 45-0 ### And the GEORGIA MILITARY INSTITUTE BULLDOGS spanked the homestanding ASA (FL) COLLEGE SILVER STORM 35-7.
