A look at Thursday and Friday night’s action:
WE WENT TO A FOOTBALL GAME BUT A POLO MATCH BROKE OUT – A very Polo-like final score was the result in the clash between the MILLERSVILLE UNIVERSITY MARAUDERS and the visiting EAST STROUDSBURG WARRIORS. The Marauders trailed 10-2 in the 1st Quarter, a score which held up through Halftime. In the 3rd Millersville went on top 11-10, after which their defense stepped up big to preserve a one-point win by that same 11-10 tally.
NO GEORGE KENNEDY, NO PROBLEM – The URBANA UNIVERSITY BLUE KNIGHTS (no relation to the old tv show with George Kennedy) took it on the road against the UNIVERSITY OF CHARLESTON GOLDEN EAGLES. This game was a defensive epic with neither team scoring the entire 1st Half. In the 3rd Quarter the Blue Knights seized a 14-0 lead, then held on against a Golden Eagles rally in the 4th for a 20-14 victory.
FIGHTING THE GOOD FIGHT – Staying with the color blue but moving over to the NAIA, the LINDSEY WILSON COLLEGE BLUE RAIDERS valiantly traveled to face NCAA Division ONE’s PRESBYTERIAN COLLEGE BLUE HOSE. The Blue Raiders showed this team TWO DIVISIONS HIGHER than they are a real struggle. At the break the Blue Hose led Lindsey Wilson College by a mere 3-0 and only won it by a final score of 10-0. Kudos to the Blue Raiders!
NUMBER ONE GETS A SCARE – In the NJCAA the number 1 team in the nation – the Defending Champion EAST MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE LIONS – had a very close call at the 20th ranked EAST CENTRAL COLLEGE WARRIORS. The Warriors led 15-14 at Halftime but the Lions outscored East Central College 10-6 in the 2nd Half for a 24-21 comeback win.
UPSET IN THE TOP FIFTEEN – Also in the NJCAA the COPIAH-LINCOLN COLLEGE WOLFPACK visited the number 14 MISSISSIPPI GULF COAST COLLEGE BULLDOGS. The Wolfpack put the Bulldogs on Upset Alert with a 7-3 1st Quarter edge, which became a 14-3 advantage at the break. From there Copiah-Lincoln College dismembered their opponents to the tune of 38-13.
A DOUBLE SHOT OF THAT OT LOVE – The ITAWAMBA COLLEGE INDIANS played host to the NORTHEAST MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE TIGERS on Thursday night. A 14-0 Indians lead in the opening Quarter was cut to just 17-10 come Halftime. The Tigers went up 24-17 in the 3rd Quarter but Itawamba College forced Overtime with a 31-31 tie to end the 4th. The 1st OT was scoreless, but in the 2nd the Indians emerged with a 37-31 triumph.
ONE-POINT WONDER – This game pitted the MISSISSIPPI DELTA COLLEGE TROJANS against their guests the COAHOMA COLLEGE TIGERS. The Trojans trailed the Tigers 6-3, 12-10 and 20-17 in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Quarters, respectively. Mississippi Delta College rallied in the 4th for a thrilling 27-26 victory.
WHEN RANKED TEAMS CLASH – The number 3 team in the country – the NORTHWEST MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE RANGERS – took the field against the tied-for-14th HOLMES COLLEGE BULLDOGS. After a scoreless 1st Quarter the Rangers led 14-7 at the Half. The Bulldogs pulled to within 20-14 to end the 3rd Quarter before Northwest Mississippi College won it 27-14.

The Marauders are my kind of team!
I understand.
