ANOTHER NAIA TRIUMPH OVER NCAA D2 – The UNIVERSITY OF PIKEVILLE BEARS are the latest NAIA team to defeat an NCAA Division Two team. (For newbies that’s like when a 1AA team upsets a 1A team) Their opponents were D2’s LIVINGSTONE COLLEGE BLUE BEARS, for a sort of “Bear Necessities Bowl.” The University of Pikeville utterly destroyed visiting Livingstone College by a score of FIFTY-TWO to TWENTY-THREE!
NUMBER TEN GOES DOWN – NCAA Division Two’s number 10 team in the nation – the UNIVERSITY OF INDIANAPOLIS GREYHOUNDS – took it on the road last night against the 14th ranked GRAND VALLEY STATE LAKERS. The Lakers were clearly feeling their dynastic past as they dominated on both sides of the ball while clobbering the Greyhounds 30-7.
A SCARE FOR NUMBER TWO – The Defending National Champions of NCAA Division Two – the 2nd ranked TEXAS A&M AT COMMERCE LIONS – needed Double Overtime to defeat their guests, the TEXAS A&M AT KINGSVILLE JAVELINAS (alma mater of Darrell Green). The Javelinas led 13-0 at the Half but the 4th Quarter ended in a 23-23 tie. Both teams notched 7 points in the 1st OT, but a missed PAT in the 2nd gave the Lions a 37-36 victory.
INAUGURAL LOSS FOR U.N.E – Meanwhile in NCAA Division Three the UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND NOR’EASTERS were playing their first-ever intercollegiate football game. Their hosts were the COAST GUARD ACADEMY BEARS. The Bears led the Nor’Easters 17-7 at Halftime then shut them out from there for a 37-7 beatdown.
BEST ROUT OF A TEAM CALLED EAGLES – Regular readers of Balladeer’s Blog know how overused are the team names Eagles, Tigers, Bulldogs and Wildcats. Last night’s best rout of such a team saw the NJCAA’s top ranked Defending National Champions – the EAST MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE LIONS – leading the number 13 HINDS COLLEGE EAGLES 43-0 at the Half before coasting to a 50-0 blowout win.

WHEN RANKED TEAMS CLASH – The (4) INDIANA UNIVERSITY OF PENNSYLVANIA CRIMSON HAWKS were on the road against the (16) ASHLAND UNIVERSITY EAGLES and won a 21-17 Instant Classic ### And the (9) FORT HAYS STATE TIGERS welcomed the (19) UNIVERSITY OF CENTRAL MISSOURI MULES, defeating them in a tight 20-16 affair.
SHUTOUTS – The SOUTHERN ARKANSAS UNIVERSITY MULERIDERS kicked around the visiting ARKANSAS TECH WONDERBOYS to the tune of 38-0 ### Meanwhile the UNIVERSITY OF NEBRASKA AT KEARNEY LOPERS won a 45-0 clash with the UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI-SOUTHERN LIONS ### And the WAYNE STATE (MI) WARRIORS hammered the WALSH UNIVERSITY CAVALIERS 31-zip.
STORM FRONT – This game pitted the SOUTHEASTERN OKLAHOMA STATE SAVAGE STORM against their guests the SOUTHERN NAZARENE UNIVERSITY CRIMSON STORM. The Savage Storm led the Crimson Storm 7-0 in the 1st Quarter and 14-0 at the break. In the 2nd Half Southeastern Oklahoma State added 21 more points for a 35-0 triumph.
ROAD WARRIORS – The PACE UNIVERSITY SETTERS (as in Irish Setters) traveled to face the MILLERSVILLE UNIVERSITY MARAUDERS and handily defeated them 23-10 ### And the WASHBURN UNIVERSITY ICHABODS Sleepy-Hollowed their hosts the LINDENWOOD UNIVERSITY LIONS by a final tally of 27-14.
UNDER THE RADAR CLASSIC – The MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE CHOCTAWS squared off against the visiting CLARK-ATLANTA UNIVERSITY PANTHERS. The Choctaws held a 21-20 edge over the Panthers come Halftime. That became a 28-23 Mississippi College advantage to end the 3rd Quarter. Clark-Atlanta went on top 30-28 in the 4th but in the end the Choctaws pulled off a 31-30 victory.

RANKED TEAMS DOMINATING – The (8) FROSTBURG STATE BOBCATS visited the STEVENSON UNIVERSITY MUSTANGS and spanked them 34-7 ### The (19) JOHNS HOPKINS UNIVERSITY BLUE JAYS eviscerated the visiting RANDOLPH-MACON COLLEGE YELLOW JACKETS by a score of SIXTY-THREE to THIRTY-ONE ### And the (20) TRINE UNIVERSITY THUNDER dispatched the MANCHESTER UNIVERSITY SPARTANS 55-7.
COMEBACK TRAIL – The (16) UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN AT PLATTEVILLE PIONEERS were on the road against the EAST TEXAS BAPTIST UNIVERSITY TIGERS. The Pioneers were trailing the Tigers 23-10 in the 1st Quarter and 37-17 by Halftime. After the break UW-Platteville came roaring back, outscoring ETBU 42-7 to win the game 59-44.
HAPPY HOMESTANDS – The BUENA VISTA UNIVERSITY BEAVERS hosted the HAMLINE UNIVERSITY PIPERS and defeated them 39-27 ### Meanwhile the BALDWIN WALLACE UNIVERSITY YELLOW JACKETS stung the ALMA COLLEGE SCOTS 63-21 ### And the BIRMINGHAM-SOUTHERN COLLEGE PANTHERS won a 34-28 catfight against the LAGRANGE UNIVERSITY PANTHERS.
A DOUBLE-SHOT OF THAT OT LOVE – The ROWAN UNIVERSITY PROFS trailed their hosts the WIDENER UNIVERSITY PRIDE 28-21 at the Half but knotted up the score 31-31 to end the 4th Quarter. The 1st Overtime ended in a 34-34 tie but the Profs won it in the 2nd OT by a score of 41-34.
MAJOR VICTORY – The MILLSAPS COLLEGE MAJORS took it on the road against the BELHAVEN UNIVERSITY BLAZERS yesterday. The Majors kept the crowd in the Belhaven Bowl very, very quiet, leading the Blazers 15-0 in the 1st Quarter and 18-0 at the break. Belhaven managed just 3 points in the 4th Quarter as Millsaps College triumphed 18-3.
NUMBER SIX IN A FIGHT – No, that’s not a reference to The Prisoner, the number 6 team in the nation – the NORTHWEST MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE RANGERS – played the visiting EAST CENTRAL COLLEGE WARRIORS last night. The Rangers were chasing the Warriors 17-14 at the break and 24-14 to end the 3rd Quarter. Northwest Mississippi College came from behind in the 4th for a 28-24 triumph.
RANKED TEAMS ROLLING – The (8) NORTHEASTERN OKLAHOMA A&M GOLDEN NORSEMEN led the ARKANSAS BAPTIST COLLEGE BUFFALOES 21-0 at Halftime enroute to a 47-0 shutout ### Meanwhile the (9) JONES COUNTY COLLEGE BOBCATS annihilated the COAHOMA COLLEGE TIGERS 44-zip ### And the (16) ITAWAMBA COLLEGE INDIANS won a much tighter 34-30 game at the PEARL RIVER COLLEGE WILDCATS.
ONE-POINT WONDER – The HOLMES COLLEGE BULLDOGS welcomed the COPIAH-LINCOLN COLLEGE WOLFPACK. A 7-7 tie to end the opening Quarter became a 21-13 Wolfpack lead by the Half. The Bulldogs pulled to within 21-20 in the 3rd Quarter then went on to win the game 29-28.
A TALE OF TWO HOMESTANDS – The SOUTHWEST MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE BEARS took the field against the NORTHEAST MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE TIGERS last night. The Bears won in a 33-28 thriller. ### The MISSISSIPPI GULF COAST COLLEGE BULLDOGS, meanwhile, needed no such drama, crushing the MISSISSIPPI DELTA COLLEGE TROJANS 52-0.
