Balladeer’s Blog continues its coverage of the world’s OLDEST team sport. FOR MY PRIMER ON POLO CLICK HERE  2018 U.S. Open action continues with two more games in Bracket Play:

Audi polo shirtAUDI VERSUS THE U.S. POLO ASSOCIATION – Marc Ganzi led Audi – Official Balladeer’s Blog Nickname: the Bavarians – against his son Grant, who was playing for the United States Polo Association – Official Balladeer’s Blog Nickname: The Association (Thank you to Jim Rome.)

FIRST CHUKKER: Audi and the USPA matched each other shot for shot and Goal for Goal to start things off. This opening Chukker ended with the score knotted up at 2-2.

SECOND CHUKKER: The Bavarians shone in this second sextant, dominating the Association on both sides of the ball. Audi thwacked in a pair of Goals for themselves while completely shutting out USPA. The Bavarians now held a 4-2 lead.

THIRD CHUKKER: Audi exploded on the Association this time around, absolutely OWNING them. The Bavarians got 4 more Goals between the Uprights compared to the lone Goal mustered by the struggling and baffled Association. Headed into Halftime Audi was on top by a score of 8-3. Yes … EIGHT to THREE!

FOURTH CHUKKER: USPA tried to mount a comeback in this Chukker, limiting their opponents to just 1 Goal while swatting in 2 of their own. The lead for the Bavarians now stood at 9-5.

FIFTH CHUKKER: The Association inched ever closer to Audi. In a repeat of the previous Chukker they scored a pair of Goals while holding the Bavarians to just 1. Audi’s lead had been cut to just 10-7 headed into the final Chukker.

SIXTH CHUKKER: Almost as if Audi had been toying with USPA in the two preceding sextants they roared back to life. The Bavarians shut out the Association while flexing their own offensive muscle with 3 more Goals. Audi won it in a 13-7 smackdown.

Mike Azzaro and Polito Pierres led the Bavarians with 4 Goals each.

Daily Racing FormDAILY RACING FORM VERSUS FLEXJET – This game pitted the Daily Racing Form – Official Balladeer’s Blog Nickname: The Stat-Hounds (Their Motto: “You’ll come to watch us play Polo … You’ll stay to blow your paycheck betting on horse races!”)  – against Flexjet – Official Balladeer’s Blog Nickname: The Aviators.

FIRST CHUKKER: Daily Racing Form shot out to a quick advantage to start things off. Before their opponents on Flexjet could say “That was supposed to be this month’s RENT MONEY!” the Stat-Hounds were on top 3 Goals to 1.

SECOND CHUKKER: DRF kept up the pressure this time around, notching FOUR more Goals themselves while the Aviators were hard-pressed to score 2. The Stat-Hounds’ lead had expanded to 7-3.

THIRD CHUKKER: Goals virtually FLEW between the Uprights in this Chukker. Each team penetrated for a Goal 3 times, making the Halftime score 10-6.

FOURTH CHUKKER: Flexjet faltered to open the 2nd Half, managing just one lone score. DRF were still operating on all cylinders with 3 Goals of their own. The Stat-Hounds now held a 13-7 advantage.

FIFTH CHUKKER: In this penultimate Chukker it looked like the Aviators had a fighting chance. They shut out their opponents while slamming in 3 Goals to pull within 13-10 of DRF.

SIXTH CHUKKER: The Stat-Hounds masterfully worked the clock with long rolls and all the usual time-killing tactics. This deprived Flexjet of the frenzied pace they would have needed to tie or take the lead as the teams scored just 1 Goal apiece. Daily Racing Form won by a count of 14-11.

“Hunky” Hillario Ulloa led the victors with EIGHT of their 14 Goals.
