CLOSE CALLS FOR A PAIR OF NUMBER TWOS – In D2 the 2nd ranked GRAND VALLEY STATE LAKERS needed Double Overtime to put away their hosts the SAGINAW VALLEY STATE CARDINALS by a score of 62-56 ### And D3’s number 2 UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN AT WHITEWATER WARHAWKS had to survive a 27-20 Overtime duel with the visiting UW-RIVER FALLS FALCONS.
NUMBER SIX FALLS IN A DEFENSIVE EPIC – Over in the NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) the BENEDICTINE COLLEGE RAVENS paid a visit to the number 6 team in the nation – the GRAND VIEW UNIVERSITY VIKINGS. This text-book example of stellar gridiron defense ended in a 7-3 upset win for the Ravens.
USCAA GAME OF THE WEEK – The Game of the Week in the USCAA (United States Collegiate Athletic Association) pitted the DEAN COLLEGE BULLDOGS against their guests the MONROE COLLEGE MUSTANGS. The Bulldogs shut out the Mustangs in the 1st Half and built up a 22-0 lead. After the break Dean College had to hold on for a 22-14 victory to improve to 6-4.
NCCAA OVER NCAA DIVISION THREE – From the NCCAA (National Christian College Athletic Association) the TRINITY BIBLE COLLEGE LIONS traveled to Hancock, MI to square off against D3’s FINLANDIA UNIVERSITY LIONS. Trinity Bible College trailed Finlandia U 7-3 at the Half but came back to win it 17-13.
USCAA OVER NCCAA – The USCAA’s ALFRED STATE PIONEERS found themselves on the road against the NCCAA team the MARANATHA BAPTIST UNIVERSITY SABERCATS. The Pioneers grabbed a 7-0 lead in the 1st Quarter and made that a 14-0 advantage by Halftime. After a scoreless 3rd Quarter the teams exchanged Touchdowns in the 4th as Alfred State beat the Sabercats 21-7.

UPSETS IN THE TOP TWENTY-FIVE – Outside of Benedictine over Grand View the only other upset in the NAIA rankings came in the game between the ARIZONA CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY FIRESTORM and their Homecoming opponents the 22nd ranked WAYLAND BAPTIST UNIVERSITY PIONEERS (should be the Flying W’s). The Firestorm triumphed 45-35.

UPSETS IN THE TOP TWENTY-FIVE – There was only one successful upset in the rankings of the NCAA’s Division Two yesterday. The unranked MINNESOTA STATE AT MOORHEAD DRAGONS took it on the road to face the number 23 team in the nation – the BEMIDJI STATE BEAVERS. This was a game for the ages, with the Dragons coming out on top by a tight score of 42-41.
