BY A GNAT’S EYELASH – The COLLEGE OF THE REDWOODS CORSAIRS took it on the road against the REEDLEY COLLEGE TIGERS. A game for the ages unfolded as the Corsairs trailed the Tigers 7-6 to end the 1st Quarter. That score was unchanged at Halftime but College of the Redwoods went on top 19-7 in the 3rd Quarter, then had to hold on against a furious Reedley College rally for a 26-22 win.
ALL-NAME GAME – This game pitted the SAN DIEGO MESA COLLEGE OLYMPIANS against the visiting COMPTON COLLEGE TARTARS. The team names were the best part in this lopsided affair as the Olympians parlayed a 30-0 score at the break into a FIFTY-FOUR to NINE blowout victory. San Diego Mesa College QB Jeremiah Henderson threw for 3 TD’s on just 188 yds passing.
LOOK WHO’S THREE AND O – The MONTEREY PENINSULA COLLEGE LOBOS are undefeated and are sitting atop the Golden Coast Conference right now. On Saturday the Lobos squared off against the SAN JOSE COLLEGE JAGUARS. After a 7-7 tie in the 1st Quarter Monterey Peninsula College never trailed again, leading 20-7 at Halftime and winning the game by a final score of 30-20.
OUTSTANDING VICTORY OVER A TEAM CALLED WILDCATS, EAGLES, TIGERS OR BULLDOGS – Regular readers of Balladeer’s Blog are familiar with my one-man war against teams which sport those four overused names. The CCCAA winners for this week are the COLLEGE OF THE DESERT ROADRUNNERS, who spanked thir hosts the WEST LOS ANGELES COLLEGE WILDCATS to the tune of 61-35.
ONE POINT WONDER – The HARTNELL COLLEGE PANTHERS hosted the MENDOCINO COLLEGE EAGLES in a gridiron Armageddon. The Panthers grabbed a 7-0 1st Quarter lead but trailed the Eagles 13-7 at Halftime. After the break Hartnell College was able to overtake Mendocino College to muster a 20-19 victory. Panthers RB Sherrod Hawkes rushed for 128 yds and 1 TD in the win.
SHUT-OUTS & BLOW-OUTS – The SANTA BARBARA CITY COLLEGE VAQUEROS folded, spindled and mutilated the LOS ANGELES SOUTHWEST COLLEGE COUGARS 51-zip ### Meanwhile the FULLERTON COLLEGE HORNETS stung the COLLEGE OF THE CANYONS COUGARS to the tune of 59-14 ### And the MOUNT SAN ANTONIO COLLEGE MOUNTIES manhandled the SANTA MONICA COLLEGE CORSAIRS 55-12.
