SO-CAL DIVISION – ROUND ONE – GAME ONE – The CCCAA postseason got started with a game pitting the 17 seeds – the IRVINE VALLEY COLLEGE LASERS – against the 16th seeded LOS ANGELES MISSION COLLEGE EAGLES. The Eagles converted a 2-0 1st Inning edge into a 6-0 advantage by the 5th Inning. In the top of the 7th the Lasers made it a 6-2 ballgame then exploded in the 8th Inning for TEN runs to take a 12-6 lead. They shut out Los Angeles Mission College the rest of the way while adding 4 more runs themselves for a 16-6 comeback victory. Irvine Valley College Pitcher Justin Zielinski improved to 8-2 with this win.
SO-CAL DIVISION – ROUND ONE – GAME TWO – In yesterday’s other game from the Southern California Division the 18th seeded RIVERSIDE CITY COLLEGE TIGERS faced the 15 seeds – the CERRITOS COLLEGE FALCONS. The Tigers led 1-0 in the 1st Inning and 2-0 in the 2nd. That became a 6-0 lead in the top of the 3rd before the Falcons made it 6-1 in the bottom of that Inning. Though Cerritos College shut out Riverside College the rest of the way they were only able to add one more run themselves in the 8th Inning. The Tigers eliminated the Falcons by a final score of 6-2. The winning Pitcher in this upset was Angel Delgado.
NOR-CAL DIVISION – ROUND ONE – GAME ONE – Taking the diamond in this game were the 15 seeds – the SKYLINE COLLEGE TROJANS – and the 18th seeded DE ANZA COLLEGE DONS. After two scoreless Innings the Trojans took a 1-0 lead in the 3rd before the Dons tied it up at 1-1 in the 4th. Skyline College added 1 more run each in the 6th and 8th Innings, bouncing De Anza College from the postseason in a 3-1 thriller. Aldo Severson pitched the win for the Trojans.
NOR-CAL DIVISION – ROUND ONE – GAME TWO – Three of yesterday’s four games were upsets, including this one between the 17th seeded COLLEGE OF THE SEQUOIAS GIANTS and the 16 seeds – the YUBA COLLEGE FORTY-NINERS. This contest started out with the Forty-Niners leading 1-0 after 1 Inning of play and 2-0 after 2. The Giants tied the game up at 2-2 in the 4th Inning then seized a 5-2 lead in the 6th. That became a 6-2 edge for the College of the Sequoias in the top of the 7th and 8-2 in the top of the 8th. Yuba College added 1 more run in the bottom of the 8th but no more as the Giants advanced to the Second Round by a score of 8-3. Jonathan Molina was the winning Pitcher for the College of the Sequoias.
