The Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference threw out the first pitch yesterday in postseason play for the NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics). The ever- dangerous INDIANA UNIVERSITY- SOUTHEAST GRENADIERS came in as the 3 seeds and opened up the proverbial can of whupass on the 6th seeded ALICE LLOYD COLLEGE EAGLES. The college sports gods always smile when a team with an overused name like Eagles, Tigers, Bulldogs or Wildcats gets routed and the Grenadiers were happy to oblige!
IUS led 4-1 after the 1st Inning and 7-1 after the 2nd. The Grenadiers then went on to put up 4, 1 and 3 runs respectively in the 7th, 8th and 9th Innings on their way to an impressive FIFTEEN to ONE humilation of the Eagles. Mason Lingafelter got the win as IUS moves on to the next round.
In the other game from yesterday’s KIAC tournament the 4th seeded BEREA COLLEGE MOUNTAINEERS battled the 5th seeded ASBURY UNIVERSITY EAGLES (Have I mentioned how overused the name Eagles is in college sports?) The two teams were scoreless through four innings and wound up with a 1-1 tie after the 5th Inning. The Mountaineers had a huge 6th Inning, notching 4 more runs and threw another run on for good measure late in the game.
The Eagles managed just 1 more run for themselves in the 6th Inning, with Berea College taking the win by a final score of 6-2. With two Eagle teams now playing from the Loser’s Bracket in the double- elimination tournament the action will continue. Top seeded Point Park University plus 2nd seeded Brescia University (neither of whom are called Eagles) join the competition in that 2nd Round.
IU-Southeast is the best!
They are something!
The Grenadiers should have won it all!
You said it!
