KENTUCKY INTERCOLLEGIATE ATHLETIC CONFERENCE – The top seeded INDIANA UNIVERSITY SOUTHEAST GRENADIERS notched another conference title. The Grenadiers (love that name) defeated the 3rd seeded ASBURY EAGLES 74-62 in the KIAC championship game. This after eliminating Alice Lloyd and Cincinatti Christian in the previous 2 rounds.
CALIFORNIA PACIFIC CONFERENCE – The 2 seeds, the CAL MARITIME KEELHAULERS, won the CPC title by winning a 66-63 Instant Classic over the 4th seeded MENLO COLLEGE OAKS. The Keelhaulers made their way to the championship game by smacking around the UC- MERCED GOLDEN BOBCATS in the semifinals after their first- round bye.
CROSSROADS LEAGUE – The BETHEL COLLEGE (IN) PILOTS came into this tournament in the 3 spot, but walked away with the conference crown with a nailbiting 68-65 victory over the 5th seeded TAYLOR TROJANS. St Francis (IN) and Marian University fell to the Pilots (riverboat pilots) along the way.
GREAT PLAINS ATHLETIC CONFERENCE – The (2) DORDT COLLEGE DEFENDERS put away the (5) MORNINGSIDE MUSTANGS 75-63 to take the GPAC title for 2013. Enroute to the championship game the Defenders dispatched Briar Cliff and Midland University.
MIDLANDS COLLEGIATE ATHLETIC CONFERENCE – The 3rd seeded COLLEGE OF THE OZARKS BOBCATS upset the 2 seeds, the BELLEVUE BRUINS, in a 65-58 championship tilt. To get there the Bobcats also took out Central Christian and Oklahoma Wesleyan.
KANSAS COLLEGIATE ATHLETIC CONFERENCE – The 8th seeded Cinderellas of the tournament, the MCPHERSON BULLDOGS, made history last night by taking the 2013 conference title with an 87-80 triumph over the 3rd seeded STERLING WARRIORS. Along the way McPherson stunned the top seeded University of St Mary and then Friends College.
ASSOCIATION OF INDEPENDENT INSTITUTIONS – At the 3 position the DAKOTA STATE TROJANS cut down the upstart 5 seeds, the JAMESTOWN COLLEGE JIMMIES, in a 78-76 game for the ages. In the first two rounds Dakota State did away with Northern New Mexico and Valley City State.
CASCADE COLLEGIATE CONFERENCE – The WARNER PACIFIC COLLEGE KNIGHTS lived up to their 1 seed, prevailing over the (3) SOUTHERN OREGON RAIDERS 67-63 for the championship. They got to the title bout by downing Corban and Northwest.
MIDWEST COLLEGIATE CONFERENCE – The top seeds, the WILLIAM PENN UNIVERSITY STATESMEN, put up a Century Club- worthy 104 points to the 81 scored by the 2nd seeded MT MERCY MUSTANGS, to win the crown in a walk. After a bye in the first round the Statesmen defeated the ST AMBROSE UNIVERSITY FIGHTING BEES in the semifinals.
THE SUN CONFERENCE – The (3) EMBRY RIDDLE AERONAUTICAL UNIVERSITY EAGLES needed Double Overtime, but at length took the conference title with a 91-81 win over the top seeded NORTHWOOD (FL) SEAHAWKS. Webber International and Warner also fell to ERAU along the way to the championship.
WOLVERINE- HOOSIER ATHLETIC CONFERENCE – This conference waited until the title game for its first upset of the 2013 tournament. The 2 seeds downed the 1 seeds as the MADONNA CRUSADERS defeated the DAVENPORT PANTHERS by a score of 72-58. Northwestern Ohio and Lourdes University were victims of the Crusaders in the 2 previous rounds.
THE FULL NAIA2 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP FIELD OF 32 TEAMS WILL BE ANNOUNCED TONIGHT AT 8pm ET.
