Balladeer’s Blog presents its look at the NJCAA’s postseason matchups for 2012. The top-ranked IOWA WESTERN REIVERS (logo at left) and the number 2 BUTLER (KS) GRIZZLIES square off for the championship in the Graphic Edge Bowl on December 2nd. The Reivers football program has only been around for 4 years and they are already appearing in the title game! The Grizzlies, on the other hand, are a traditional NJCAA football power and were in the championship game as recently as 2010, when they lost to the Navarro College Bulldogs. It’s the up-and- comers against the veterans for the NJCAA title! And now for the other Bowl matchups:

CARRIER DOME BOWL – The 3rd ranked ASA COLLEGE AVENGERS (helmet at left) are also fairly new to the gridiron and are making their very first Bowl appearance in this inaugural event in Syracuse, NY. The opponents for the Avengers in this game will be the storied number 4 SNOW COLLEGE BADGERS, providing NJCAA fans with another “spunk vs experience” Bowl showdown. Look for this game on December 1st.

SALT CITY BOWL – The HUTCHINSON COLLEGE BLUE DRAGONS (helmet at left) are 3-time Salt City Bowl champions and come into this year’s matchup trying to make it 4 in a row. Their opponent this time around will be the IOWA CENTRAL TRITONS on December 1st. The Blue Dragons are making their 17th Bowl appearance overall, while the Tritons are appearing in their 14th overall.

BRAZOS VALLEY BOWL – This is another Bowl marking its debut in 2012! The Brazos Valley Bowl will be presenting some Ranger on Ranger violence for us as the KILGORE COLLEGE RANGERS (helmet at left)  clash with the NORTHWEST MISSISSIPPI RANGERS. Kilgore College has won 1 national championship and Northwest Mississippi has notched a pair of titles, providing a tradition-rich atmosphere for this December 1st event.

EL TORO BOWL – Also on December 1st Yuma, Arizona will play host to the El Toro Bowl, which got to be the national championship game last year. The 2012 matchup in this Bowl offers us the ARIZONA WESTERN COLLEGE MATADORS (helmet at left) taking on the NASSAU LIONS. The Matadors lost the title game last season and are trying for their first Bowl victory in 4 attempts under Coach Tom Minnick. Nassau College played the Matadors in the 1998 postseason and routed them 30-6.

MISSISSIPPI BOWL  – The 2012 Mississippi Bowl will pit the GARDEN CITY COLLEGE BRONCBUSTERS (helmet at left) against the COPIAH- LINCOLN WOLFPACK. The game will be played on December 2nd with the Wolfpack representing the Mississippi Athletic Conference and the Broncbusters representing the Jayhawk Conference. Copiah- Lincoln upset East Mississippi in the MAC title game for the privilege of defending Mississippi’s honor in this Bowl.

GRAPHIC EDGE BOWL – This particular Bowl always features a Double Header, so in addition to hosting this season’s national championship game there will be an “undercard” game earlier in the day on December 2nd. This opening Bowl presents the ELLSWORTH PANTHERS versus the LOUISBURG COLLEGE HURRICANES. John Sala, the coach of Louisburg was formerly the coach at Ellsworth, where he won 3 Graphic Edge Bowls.

Balladeer’s Blog will feature the CCCAA postseason matchups next.
