NOTEWORTHY COLLEGE BASKETBALL RESULTS FROM FEBRUARY 4TH

KICKS LIKE A MULE – The MUHLENBERG MULES (logo at right) upset the 8th-ranked FRANKLIN & MARSHALL DIPLOMATS, making the Dips the highest-ranked victims of yesterday’s action. The final score in this Instant Classic was 60-58.

NUMBER ONE TOOK A FALL – If you missed this result from Friday’s action, the POINT UNIVERSITY SKYHAWKS upset the top-ranked SHORTER HAWKS in a 73-72 epic.

TOP 25 UPSETS – NAIA – The 8th-ranked LINDSEY WILSON COLLEGE BLUE RAIDERS fell at home to the CUMBERLANDS BULLDOGS in a 77-76 nailbiter … The number 10 MSUN LIGHTS were upset on the road by the GREAT FALLS ARGONAUTS 69-68 … The 13th- ranked MASTER’S MUSTANGS lost at home 60-58 to the HOPE INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY ROYALS …

TOP 25 UPSETS – D3 – Other Top 25 upsets from yesterday saw the NORTH CENTRAL CARDINALS take down the number 15 AUGUSTANA (IL) VIKINGS in a 43-41 defensive struggle, the BOWDOIN POLAR BEARS topple the 16th- ranked WILLIAMS EPHS 89-84 in overtime and the WASHINGTON AND LEE GENERALS defeat the number 21 RANDOLPH-MACON YELLOW JACKETS by a comfortable 78-56 margin.

ROGERS STATE CUBED IT AGAIN! – Yes, another bad joke about the fact that the ROGERS STATE HILLCATS name sounds a little like the Hellcats from the infamous biker movie of the same name. Anyway, the number 6 RSU team won by a score of 80-74 over the 15th- ranked SOUTHERN NAZARENE UNIVERSITY CRIMSON STORM (love that name, too).

HEART OF A CHAMPION – The UNIVERSITY OF PIKEVILLE BEARS are the defending champs of NAIA-1 basketball, and though they are ranked down at number 20 right now they keep proving they can’t be taken lightly. Yesterday they commited Bear on Bear violence, defeating the SHAWNEE STATE BEARS in an 88-75 result. Pikeville is now 15-8 for the season.

HEARTBREAK OF A CHAMPION – NAIA-2’s defending champs, the CORNERSTONE GOLDEN EAGLES, fell on the road to the INDIANA TECH WARRIORS by a score of 70-67. Cornerstone is now 14-13 overall for this disappointing season.

21-2 BABY! – NAIA-2’s top-ranked NORTHWOOD (FL) SEAHAWKS are 21-2 for the season after yesterday’s 85-77 home stand against the AVE MARIA UNIVERSITY GYRENES.

ALL-NAME GAME OF THE WEEK – This week the honors go to the matchup between the GOSHEN MAPLE LEAFS and the GRACE COLLEGE LANCERS. The Lancers came out on top by a score of 90-76.

MARATHON GAME OF THE WEEK – It took Double Overtime to settle yesterday’s game between the SILVER LAKE LAKERS and the FINLANDIA LIONS. Both teams passed the Century Mark as the Lakers fell 109-105.

OVERTIME PAY – Forty minutes wasnt enough in these games: The NAIA’s number 9 team, the MARTIN METHODIST COLLEGE REDHAWKS logged a road win in OT over the UNION BULLDOGS by a score of 74-70 … The NEWBURY NIGHTHAWKS took down the ELMS COLLEGE BLAZERS 75-74 … The LASELL LASERS defeated the MT IDA MUSTANGS in an 83-75 outcome … The CENTENARY (NJ) CYCLONES came out on top 78-72 over the BAPTIST BIBLE DEFENDERS … 83-80 was the final score in the OT clash between the WEBSTER GORLOKS and their vanquishers, the EUREKA RED DEVILS and the COE KOHAWKS topped the BUENA VISTA BEAVERS 77-74.

BUTT-KICKINGS – The NAIA’s 3rd- ranked SOUTHERN POLYTECHNIC RUNNING HORNETS repeatedly stung the MORRIS COLLEGE HORNETS to the tune of 98-57 … The number 11 MOUNTAIN STATE COUGARS plucked the feathers off the LIFE UNIVERSITY RUNNING EAGLES 116-89 … At number 12, the GEORGETOWN (KY) TIGERS routed the UVA-WISE HIGHLAND CAVALIERS 94-60 … The HUNTINGTON FORESTERS chopped down the MT VERNON NAZARENE COUGARS in a 90-67 beatdown … The ST LOUIS COLLEGE OF PHARMACY EUTECTICS had their prescriptions filled (I don’t even know what that means in this context) by the ASBURY EAGLES 74-47  and the CAL MARITIME KEELHAULERS (love that name) hornswaggled the SIMPSON (CA) RED HAWKS 90-66.
