NCAA DIVISION 3 TWEAKS PLAYOFF SEEDING PROCEDURE FOLLOWING LAST SEASON’S CONTROVERSY

Remember last season when it seemed like everybody (myself included) was complaining about how the undefeated defending champions of D3 college football, the UWW Warhawks, got screwed by being given a 2 seed in their region instead of a 1 seed? Things turned out okay because even having to go on the road for a game they should have been at home for did not prevent the Warhawks from taking yet another title.

For once the NCAA is jumping in to correct a glaring procedural flaw before it costs a team a championship. The seeding process has now been tweaked so that, if all other factors are equal between two teams, performance in the previous year’s post-season may be used in determining seeding. That may not be the best possible news for teams like the Wesley Wolverines and all the other major D3 football powers that are still trying to break the 6-year long death grip that the Whitewater Warhawks and the Mount Union Purple Raiders have had on the championship game. At any rate, less than 2 months to go until the first game kicks off!
