DROVERS MEN’S SOCCER ADVANCES IN CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT

CHICKASHA – The Sooner Athletic Conference tournament started strong for the Drovers, who defeated OC in the first round 5-1 on Friday.

The Drovers’ win propels them to the second round of the tournament. They will host Oklahoma City, which beat Rogers State 3-1 also Friday.

“I thought the 5-1 result was a great way to start the SAC Tournament,” Coach Jimmy Hampton said. “We were a little ragged and sloppy at times, but hopefully we can get cleaned up. We’re looking forward to a quality match with OCU.”

The Drovers battled hard and spent the majority of the game on the attack, outshooting the Eagles 18-8. Sophomore keeper Ryan Mcentee had five saves.

Defender Scott Parkinson netted the Drovers’ first goal on a header off a corner kick at just the three-minute mark. USAO had four goals after playing just 21 minutes.

Dusan Rasovic scored the Drovers’ only goal in the second half off an assist from Nicolas Alberto, who had two assists and a goal on Friday.

Also scoring were Daniel Gibson and Niall Crick. Senior David Otieno, who missed a chunk of the conference season with a knee injury, had two assists.

USAO (14-3) will play Oklahoma City (10-5-2) at 2 p.m. Monday in Chickasha. The Drovers are in it for revenge after losing 2-0 to the Stars at home earlier this season.

The Drover women will play John Brown University at noon Saturday in Arkansas in the first round of the conference tournament.
