MISSISSIPPI BOWL – The number 1 NORTHWEST MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE RANGERS clashed with the 2nd ranked ROCHESTER TECH YELLOW JACKETS for the NJCAA title. The Rangers held the Yellow Jackets scoreless until the 4th Quarter while scoring at will themselves. At the Half Northwest Mississippi led 35-0 on their way to a 66-13 annihilation of Rochester Tech. * The Rangers are NJCAA Champions for 2015.*

FIRST SEMIFINAL – The SOUTHERN OREGON UNIVERSITY RAIDERS – the defending champions of NAIA football – visited the MORNINGSIDE COLLEGE MUSTANGS yesterday. The Raiders led 6-0 in the 1st Quarter but trailed the Mustangs 7-6 at Halftime. The 3rd Quarter ended with SOU on top 23-21 and in the 4th the Raiders outscored the Mustangs 7-6 for a 30-27 victory and a return trip to the title game on December 19th. Continue reading
A TALE OF TWO HALVES – The UNIVERSITY OF SAINT FRANCIS (IN) COUGARS hosted the MONTANA TECH OREDIGGERS in a Jekyll and Hyde affair. The 1st Quarter ended in a 7-7 tie and at the break the Cougars and Orediggers were knotted up at 14-14. In the 3rd Quarter St Francis exploded for 28 points and went on to win by a final score of 42-20.
VICTORY BOWL – This Bowl serves as the National Championship Game in the NCCAA. The SOUTHWESTERN ASSEMBLIES OF GOD UNIVERSITY LIONS took on the UNIVERSITY OF NORTHWESTERN (MN) EAGLES. The Lions seized a 10-0 1st Quarter lead but then the defenses took over. Neither team scored again until the Eagles put up 7 points in the 4th Quarter. SAGU won the game by a final count of 10-7.
FOUR OVERTIME MARATHON – The top ranked MORNINGSIDE COLLEGE MUSTANGS got a wakeup call from the ST XAVIER UNIVERSITY COUGARS to start the playoffs. The Mustangs led 33-31 at Halftime but Regulation ended in a 54-54 tie. After a scoreless 1st OT session both teams scored 7 points in the 2nd OT. Both scored 8 in the 3rd OT but in the 4th Morningside shut out the Cougars then got a TD for a 75-69 win.
BULLDOG BOWL (Nov 21st 3pm ET) – The CCCAA incorporates its playoffs into its Bowl structure so I will clarify as we go.
This year the Bulldog Bowl will be one of the semifinal games for the Northern Division and will pit the 2nd seeded CHABOT COLLEGE GLADIATORS against the 3 seeds – the COLLEGE OF SAN MATEO BULLDOGS.

UPSET IN THE TOP TEN – On a Saturday that was almost all-chalk there was only one upset of a team ranked in the Top Ten of the various four-year divisions covered here at Balladeer’s Blog. In NCAA Division Two the 11th ranked MIDWESTERN STATE MUSTANGS traveled to face the number 8 team in the nation – the TEXAS A&M AT COMMERCE LIONS. The Mustangs edged the Lions 37-33 in a nailbiting Instant Classic.
SOUTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY RULES THE WORLD – Plenty of times every college football season various NAIA teams upset teams in NCAA Division Two or even Division ONE. Yesterday the NAIA’s SOUTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY FIRE were guests of NCAA D2’s BENEDICT COLLEGE TIGERS. The Fire managed a 35-20 upset of the higher division team.
NUMBER ONE TAKES A FALL – Staying in the NAIA for the moment the 9th ranked MONTANA TECH OREDIGGERS traveled to face the number 1 team in the nation – the Defending Champion SOUTHERN OREGON UNIVERSITY RAIDERS. The Orediggers won a 21-17 game for the ages that their fans will talk about for years to come.
