COLLEGE FOOTBALL RESULTS FROM BALLADEER’S BLOG

HEADLINES

FMU CONQUERS D2 – Each year various teams topple opponents who play in higher divisions. Yesterday the NAIA’s FLORIDA MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY LIONS welcomed the EDWARD WATERS UNIVERSITY TIGERS from NCAA Division Two. The Lions led EWU 10-0, 17-0 and 24-14 in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Quarters, respectively. In the 4th FMU won 31-21.

SEAHAWKS CONQUER D2 – Also from the NAIA, the KEISER UNIVERSITY SEAHAWKS traveled to face the NCAA Division Two NORTH GREENVILLE UNIVERSITY TRAILBLAZERS. A 7-7 1st Quarter tie became a 14-10 Seahawks edge by Halftime. The 3rd Quarter ended with KU up 17-13 before the Trailblazers forced OT with a 20-20 deadlock in the 4th. The Seahawks won 23-20 in Overtime. Continue reading

BALLADEER’S BLOG: WNBA RESULTS

CENTURY CLUB – The INDIANA FEVER (17-16) took it on the road against the DALLAS WINGS (9-24).

A 23-19 1st Quarter lead for Dallas became a mere 46-45 edge by Halftime. The Fever were still chasing their opponents 74-70 to end the 3rd Quarter, but they roared from behind in the 4th to win the game by a Century Club score of 100-93. Kelsey Mitchell’s THIRTY-SIX points led Indiana, while teammate CAITLIN CLARK logged a Double Double of 28 points and 12 assists.

WELCOME TO UNCASVILLE – The CONNECTICUT SUN (24-9) hosted the SEATTLE STORM (20-13) at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, CT.

At the Half the Sun were on top of Seattle by a score of 42-34. After the break, Connecticut kept the Storm at arm’s length on their way to a 93-86 victory. Twenty-six points from Brionna Jones led the way for the Sun.  Continue reading

COLLEGE FOOTBALL RESULTS FROM AUGUST 31st

NOTE: After this holiday weekend I’ll go back to football posts ONLY ONE DAY A WEEK for you readers who aren’t into sports. I’ll relocate WNBA coverage to just one separate weekday as well.

NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics)

Benedictine RavensDOWN GOES NUMBER TEN – The 19th ranked BENEDICTINE COLLEGE RAVENS played the number 10 MORNINGSIDE UNIVERSITY MUSTANGS in their own house. The 1st Quarter ended with the Ravens up 21-3, and they would need all those points. The Mustangs pulled to within 28-17 at the Half and 35-30 in the 3rd Quarter before Benedictine held on in the 4th to win it 48-45.  

CUMBERLAND ON THE ROAD – The CUMBERLAND UNIVERSITY PHOENIX traveled to face the MISSOURI BAPTIST UNIVERSITY SPARTANS. The opening Half of this game was deceptive as the Phoenix led by a score of 28-3 by the midpoint. After the break, the Spartans made it a whole different game, pulling to within 28-25 to end the 3rd Quarter, but Cumberland U. held on in the 4th for a 35-28 win.  

UNDER THE RADAR THRILLER – This game pitted the AVILA UNIVERSITY AVALANCHE (now the Eagles) against the visiting BETHANY COLLEGE SWEDES. The Avalanche seized a quick 7-0 1st Quarter lead, following which neither team scored again until after the break. The Swedes tied things up at 7-7 in the 3rd Quarter, and an action-packed 4th saw Avila triumph 24-21.  Continue reading

BALLADEER’S BLOG: COLLEGE FOOTBALL RESULTS FROM AUGUST 29th

It’s Week Two in the divisions covered here at Balladeer’s Blog, with more divisions kicking off next week!

NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics)

KISS THEIR BUTTE! – Out in Butte, MT the 21st ranked MONTANA TECH OREDIGGERS welcomed the number 3 team in the nation – the GEORGETOWN (KY) COLLEGE TIGERS. A 7-7 1st Quarter tie became a 14-7 Orediggers lead by Halftime. The 3rd Quarter ended with Montana Tech up 21-14 and the 4th in a 29-22 Orediggers triumph!

HISTORY WAS MADE – The WILLIAM PENN UNIVERSITY STATESMEN played host to the latest college playing its FIRST EVER intercollegiate football game – the WILLIAM WOODS UNIVERSITY OWLS. As usual, it wasn’t the kind of history that the newbies would have liked, as the Statesmen led 38-0 at the Half before winning the game 59-0. Continue reading

WNBA RESULTS FROM BALLADEER’S BLOG

FOURTH QUARTER FURY – The DALLAS WINGS (7-22) welcomed the LOS ANGELES SPARKS (6-24).

Los Angeles led 26-13 to end the opening Quarter, with the Wings pulling to within 55-45 by Halftime. In the 3rd Quarter the Sparks went up 92-73, but Dallas exploded for 40 points in the 4th to win the game by a Century Club score of 113-110. Arike Ogunbowale led the Wings with THIRTY-THREE points, while her teammate Teaira McCowan logged a Double Double of 17 points and 11 rebounds.

INSTANT CLASSIC – The LAS VEGAS ACES (18-11) took it on the road against the CHICAGO SKY (11-18) in this game.

Chicago led the Aces 17-12 in the 1st Quarter, only to see Las Vegas go up 32-30 at the Half. The 3rd Quarter ended with the score tied up at 52-52, but the Aces managed to win out 77-75 in the 4th. The victors were led by A’ja Wilson with her Double Double of 20 points and 18 rebounds. Continue reading

COLLEGE FOOTBALL RESULTS FROM AUGUST 24th

NAIA

SUNSHINE STATE SHUTOUT – The WEBBER INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY WARRIORS hosted the UNIVERSITY OF FORT LAUDERDALE EAGLES (should be Flamingos). The Warriors achieved defensive perfection against UFL while leading them 7-0, 21-0 and 37-0 in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Quarters respectively. The 4th ended in a 40-0 shutout victory for Webber International University. Continue reading

CHAPARRALS OVER PANTHERS AS THE 2024 COLLEGE FOOTBALL SEASON IS UNDERWAY

THE COLLEGE OF DUPAGE CHAPARRALS VS THE ELLSWORTH COLLEGE PANTHERS – This NJCAA matchup last night kicked off the 2024 college football season in the divisions covered here at Balladeer’s Blog. On Saturday the NAIA joins the action as additional NJCAA games also kick off. 

In this particular gridiron clash the Chaparrals hosted Ellsworth College. The 1st Quarter ended with the College of DuPage on top of the shell-shocked Panthers 21-0. Continue reading

WNBA RESULTS – BALLADEER’S BLOG

HOME STAND – The INDIANA FEVER (12-15) hosted the PHOENIX MERCURY (14-13) in this game.

The Fever were on top of Phoenix 33-16 in the 1st Quarter and 54-37 at Halftime. To end the 3rd Quarter the Mercury pulled to within 73-65, but Indiana held on in the 4th to win the game 98-89. CAITLIN CLARK led the Fever with her Double Double of 29 points and 10 assists.  

SPANKING THE SPARKS – The league-leading NEW YORK LIBERTY (22-4) took it on the road against the LOS ANGELES SPARKS (6-19).

The Liberty parlayed their 29-10 opening Quarter lead over Los Angeles into a 57-28 advantage by the Half. After the break, New York coasted to a Century Club level 103-68 triumph over the Sparks. Breanna Stewart’s 27 points led the Liberty.  Continue reading
