Marian Knights helmet newNUMBER ONE TAKES A FALL – The MARIAN UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS went from being the NAIA’s National Champions a couple years back to once again being an afterthought. Yesterday, determined to make a statement, they traveled to face the current champions – the top ranked GRAND VIEW UNIVERSITY VIKINGS and led 10-0 after the 1st Quarter. The defending champs fought back to make it a 17-16 game by Halftime but the Knights added 14 points in the 3rd Quarter while a 4th Quarter Safety represented the only points the Vikings put on the board in the 2nd Half. QB Hayden Northern threw for a career-high 319 yards and 3 Touchdowns in this 31-18 shocker.

Montclair_St_NJMONTCLAIR STATE RULES THE WORLD – NCAA Division 3’s MONTCLAIR STATE RED HAWKS welcomed Division TWO’s LINCOLN (PA) LIONS to Sprague Field yesterday. In the 3rd Quarter Coach Rick Giancola’s Montclair State team put up 6 more points and, following a scoreless 4th Quarter, left the final score Red Hawks 27  Lions 14.

Lindsey_Wilson_KYTHE BLUE RAIDERS ANNIHILATE D2’s KWC – Nearly each week of every college football season at least one NAIA team upsets a team from the NCAA Division TWO. This is similar to when a 1AA team upsets a 1A team. Yesterday the NAIA’s LINDSEY WILSON COLLEGE BLUE RAIDERS didn’t just upset D2’s KENTUCKY WESLEYAN COLLEGE PANTHERS, they folded, spindled and mutilated them! Lindsey Wilson College won the game by a score of SIXTY-TWO to TEN, thoroughly pleasing their home crowd!

St Xavier UniversitySXU RULES THE WORLD – Another NAIA team – the SAINT XAVIER UNIVERSITY COUGARS – hosted NCAA Division Two’s 15th ranked UNIVERSITY OF INDIANAPOLIS GREYHOUNDS. The Cougars were happy to demonstrate what kind of football they play in the NAIA and led the Greyhounds 12-7 at Halftime. SXU was led by 2 rushing Touchdowns by Khary Ferguson as they pulled off the upset. The Cougars held on late to win this game for the ages by a final score of 19-15.

NC Wesleyan Battlin' BishopsTHE BATTLING BISHOPS ALSO RULE THE WORLD – NCAA Division Three’s NORTH CAROLINA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY BATTLING BISHOPS were on the road against Division Two’s LINCOLN (PA) LIONS. QB Dustin Midgett led his team to a 13-0 Halftime advantage, with the Battling Bishop defense turning in a repeat performance in the 2nd Half for NC Wesleyan’s first shutout since 2011. Meanwhile RB Jacques Alston ran for 3 Touchdowns on the day for a Battling Bishop win by a score of 27-0.   Continue reading

COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYOFF AND BOWL RESULTS FROM NOVEMBER 23RD

* FRIDAY NIGHT *

ASA CollegeCARRIER DOME BOWL – Friday night November 22nd saw the first Bowl Game of 2013. The ASA COLLEGE AVENGERS took on the COLLEGE OF DUPAGE CHAPARRALS in a duel of cool-named teams. The Avengers led 7-0 early on and never looked back, winning easily 23-3. It’s impossible to over-praise the Avengers. This still-young college football program just played in its second Bowl game in a row and with this victory logged the first Bowl win in program history.

* NCCAA CHAMPIONSHIP *

Azusa Pacific CougarsVICTORY BOWL – The Victory Bowl is the National Championship game in the NCCAA (National Christian College Athletic Association). Rome, GA was the site of this game yesterday. The AZUSA PACIFIC UNIVERSITY COUGARS played the defending champions, the GREENVILLE COLLEGE PANTHERS. Despite being the incumbents, the Panthers were very heavy underdogs against the Azusa Pacific juggernaut. The final score in this lopsided title clash was Cougars 67  Panthers 0. Congratulations to Azusa Pacific University!

* NAIA PLAYOFFS *

Tabor_KSBATTLE OF THE BIRDS – The TABOR COLLEGE BLUE JAYS traveled to take on the BENEDICTINE COLLEGE RAVENS as the playoffs kicked off in the NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics). In the 3rd Quarter Tabor College got a Touchdown but failed on the 2-point conversion attempt, leaving the score at 12-7. Early in the 4th Quarter the Blue Jays forced a Safety out of the Ravens, making it 14-7 after all. Benedictine College pulled within one but ultimately got upset 14-13. Continue reading

COLLEGE FOOTBALL RESULTS FROM OCTOBER 5TH

Pittsburg State GorillasTHE GORILLAS RULE THE WORLD – Call it Rise of the Planet of the Gorillas or whatever else you might like. Yesterday NCAA Division Two’s PITTSBURG (KS) STATE UNIVERSITY GORILLAS played host to NCAA Division ONE’s Abilene Christian University Wildcats and pulled off the upset! In what was one of the tightest and hardest-fought games of the day Gus the Gorilla’s team came out on top in the end by a score of 28-20.

HELMETGrand_View_IANUMBER THREE TAKES A FALL – The 4th ranked GRAND VIEW UNIVERSITY VIKINGS were on the road against the number 3 team in the nation, the SAINT XAVIER UNIVERSITY COUGARS. This was the marquis matchup yesterday in the NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) but the Cougars seemed determined to give the game away with no less than FIVE turnovers. That inability to hold onto the ball helped fuel GVU’s 48-21 upset victory.

American River College BeaversNUMBER ONE TAKES A FALL – Meanwhile down at the CCCAA level of college football, the AMERICAN RIVER COLLEGE BEAVERS handed a rare defeat to the homestanding and top-ranked CITY COLLEGE OF SAN FRANCISCO RAMS. Even more surprising for fans of the storied CCSF football program was the sheer one-sidedness of the game. The final score in this humiliating smackdown was Beavers 34  Rams 13.

Marian Knights helmet newNEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE HEART OF A CHAMPION – The defending national champions of NAIA college football, the MARIAN UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS, at last bounced back from the three-game losing streak that caused them to topple from the rankings. The Knights were visited by the number 23 ROBERT MORRIS (IL) EAGLES and defeated them in a Continue reading
