JANUARY 30TH UPDATE OF MY VIETNAMESE MYTHOLOGY PAGE

I just updated the page with the final chapter of the saga of the god Thach Sanh and with two new entries – one on Song Truong, the god of the tides and one on Ba Set, the goddess of lightning.

IX. THACH SANH’S DESTINY – The soldiers returned with the trusting Thach Sanh and the stolen crown jewels. At the king’s command they stripped him of his axe, bow and arrow and lute and ignored his pleas of innocence. They had him thrown into a cell to await the king’s judgement.

The sinister Ly Thong was encouraging the king to have  Thach Sanh executed before his upcoming marriage to Princess Quynh Nga. The magic lute that Long Vuong had given to Continue reading

VIETNAMESE MYTHOLOGY PAGE UPDATED- DEC 20TH

I added an entry on the Trung Sisters, who led an uprising against the Chinese around 40 C.E. and were worshipped as deities after their deaths. For more Vietnamese gods and goddesses here is the link: https://glitternight.com/vietnamese-myth-new/

THE TRUNG SISTERS – Trung Trac and her sister Trung Nhi occupy a special place in Vietnamese mythology. If you want a glib or simplistic comparison to approach their story with think of them as an ancient Vietnamese version of Lakshmibai of Jhansi in the history of India or Joan of Arc in Western lore. In the early 40’s C.E. Trung Trac led an uprising against the latest Chinese occupiers with Continue reading

CHRISTMAS SEASON DIVERSION – MY REVIEW OF SANTA AND THE ICE CREAM BUNNY (1972)

We are now just 12 days from Christmas so I figured what better time to update my Bad Movie page with a review of the atrocious attempt at entertainment called Santa And The Ice Cream Bunny, a live-action clunker from the famous Barry Mahon. For more Bad Movies: https://glitternight.com/bad-movies/

Santa and the Ice Cream BunnySANTA AND THE ICE CREAM BUNNY – (1972) – Category: Bad enough and with a classically weird premise but not fun-bad enough for my highest rating       This thoroughly bizarre little holiday-themed movie will redefine the term “low-budget” for you. Normally I cut some slack to films that are clearly targeted at children but this bomb doesn’t seem targeted at children as much as it seems targeted at morons.

The opening scene of this odd movie is set in a very cramped set that is supposed to be Santa’s North Pole workshop. Some very tall children are dressed as elves and are awkwardly pretending to be working on toys that are quite obviously already completed, lending the scene a joyously inept “grade-school Christmas play” kind of feel.

The opening credits inform us that these children/elves are players from “Ruth Foreman’s Pied Piper Playhouse” as they sing a song that has been so poorly-recorded we can only make out an occassional few words. The gist of the song seems to be that the elves are wondering where Santa is since it’s only a few days until Christmas. Continue reading

XENOGENOCIDE: NAVAJO MYTH PAGE UPDATED AGAIN

At last it’s the apocalyptic finale of the epic story of the Navajo war god Nayanazgeni battling the Anaye! I just had to title the chapter “Xenogenocide” Plus in the individual entry section I added a listing for the joint Navajo deity Tgaei.

12. XENOGENOCIDE – Nayanazgeni, Tsohanoai and Tobadzistsini looked on as, according to some myths “every drop of Yeitso’s spilled blood” was growing into either another Yeitso or another Anaye, or Brown Giants depending on the Continue reading
