END OF THE WORLD MYTH: “THE EGG OF DOOM”

It’s no secret that the kind of people who think we never landed on the moon and that the 9-11 attacks were staged by the U.S. government also think the world will end this coming December 21st. Balladeer’s Blog has been examining some of the previous end of the world panics that suckered in large numbers of people.

Near Leeds, England, in 1806 a hen laid an egg clearly inscribed with the words “Christ is coming”. With no internet and no supermarket tabloids it took longer than we today are used to for the “gullible chump” grapevine to Continue reading

END OF THE WORLD MYTH: WILLIAM WHISTON

If you believe we never landed on the moon and that the 9-11 attacks were staged by the U.S. government you probably also believe that the world will end this December 21st. Balladeer’s Blog has been examining past “end of the world” scares, and will continue to do so through at least December 22nd, 2012.

German astrologer Johannes Stoeffler predicted that according to his calculations the world would end by a giant flood on February 20th, 1524. Since Stoeffler worked for the prestigious Tubingen University he seemed to be a credible source, and before you knew it, hundreds of believers built themselves wooden arks (yes, wooden arks no less) and Continue reading

WAITING FOR THE END OF THE WORLD

According to the type of conspiracy kooks who think we never landed on the moon and that the 9-11 attacks were staged by the U.S. government the world has only one year to live. December 21st, 2012 is the latest date for the supposed “end of the world” and this type of irrational mania hasn’t been so widespread since the Y2K panic. In the year to come I’ll look at some of the colorful end of the world scenarios that enjoyed a vogue in the past.

In the 1850’s there was a widespread belief that Napoleon III was the Anti-Christ. It was explained that Continue reading
