WNBA RESULTS FROM BALLADEER’S BLOG

With the WNBA regular season ending tomorrow night, here are some of the latest results. The playoffs begin on Sunday.

CENTURY CLUB CLASSIC – The INDIANA FEVER (20-19) hosted the DALLAS WINGS (9-30).

Dallas led 34-26 to end the 1st Quarter, but the Fever cut that lead to just 59-57 by Halftime. In the 3rd Quarter Indiana went on top of the Wings 84-83, and the 4th saw each team add 26 points as the Fever won the game 110-109. Caitlin Clark led the victors with her THIRTY-FIVE points and 8 assists. 

DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA DREAMING – Up next the ATLANTA DREAM (14-25) took it on the road against the WASHINGTON MYSTICS (13-26).

At the Half, the Dream were on top of Washington 39-32. The 3rd Quarter ended with the Mystics trailing by just 54-53. The 4th ended in a 70-70 tie, and in Overtime Atlanta managed a 76-73 triumph. Tina Charles led the way for the Dream with her Double Double of 20 points and 10 rebounds. Continue reading

BALLADEER’S BLOG: WNBA RESULTS

With just over a week left in the WNBA’s regular season, here’s a look at recent results:

EXTRA SESSION – The INDIANA FEVER (19-17) took the court against the visiting ATLANTA DREAM (12-24).

Atlanta was leading 48-44 at Halftime, but from there the Fever forced Overtime with a 90-90 deadlock to end Regulation. In the extra session Indiana defeated the Fever by a final score of 104-100. Aliyah Boston led Indiana with her Double Double of THIRTY points and 13 rebounds, while Caitlin Clark notched her own Double Double of 26 points and 12 assists.

NO ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK – The league leading NEW YORK LIBERTY (30-6) invaded the lair of the DALLAS WINGS (9-27) in this game.

A 28-18 1st Quarter lead for the Liberty became 58-43 by the midpoint. After the break, New York kept the Wings at arm’s length while they glided to a Century Club victory of 105-91. (To qualify for the Century Club 100 points or more must be scored in 4 Qtrs, not OT.) Twenty-seven points from Breanna Stewart led the way for the Liberty, while her teammate Sabrina Ionescu got a Double Double of 14 points and 11 assists. Continue reading

BALLADEER’S BLOG: WNBA RESULTS

CENTURY CLUB – The INDIANA FEVER (17-16) took it on the road against the DALLAS WINGS (9-24).

A 23-19 1st Quarter lead for Dallas became a mere 46-45 edge by Halftime. The Fever were still chasing their opponents 74-70 to end the 3rd Quarter, but they roared from behind in the 4th to win the game by a Century Club score of 100-93. Kelsey Mitchell’s THIRTY-SIX points led Indiana, while teammate CAITLIN CLARK logged a Double Double of 28 points and 12 assists.

WELCOME TO UNCASVILLE – The CONNECTICUT SUN (24-9) hosted the SEATTLE STORM (20-13) at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, CT.

At the Half the Sun were on top of Seattle by a score of 42-34. After the break, Connecticut kept the Storm at arm’s length on their way to a 93-86 victory. Twenty-six points from Brionna Jones led the way for the Sun.  Continue reading

WNBA RESULTS FROM BALLADEER’S BLOG

FOURTH QUARTER FURY – The DALLAS WINGS (7-22) welcomed the LOS ANGELES SPARKS (6-24).

Los Angeles led 26-13 to end the opening Quarter, with the Wings pulling to within 55-45 by Halftime. In the 3rd Quarter the Sparks went up 92-73, but Dallas exploded for 40 points in the 4th to win the game by a Century Club score of 113-110. Arike Ogunbowale led the Wings with THIRTY-THREE points, while her teammate Teaira McCowan logged a Double Double of 17 points and 11 rebounds.

INSTANT CLASSIC – The LAS VEGAS ACES (18-11) took it on the road against the CHICAGO SKY (11-18) in this game.

Chicago led the Aces 17-12 in the 1st Quarter, only to see Las Vegas go up 32-30 at the Half. The 3rd Quarter ended with the score tied up at 52-52, but the Aces managed to win out 77-75 in the 4th. The victors were led by A’ja Wilson with her Double Double of 20 points and 18 rebounds. Continue reading

WNBA RESULTS – BALLADEER’S BLOG

HOME STAND – The INDIANA FEVER (12-15) hosted the PHOENIX MERCURY (14-13) in this game.

The Fever were on top of Phoenix 33-16 in the 1st Quarter and 54-37 at Halftime. To end the 3rd Quarter the Mercury pulled to within 73-65, but Indiana held on in the 4th to win the game 98-89. CAITLIN CLARK led the Fever with her Double Double of 29 points and 10 assists.  

SPANKING THE SPARKS – The league-leading NEW YORK LIBERTY (22-4) took it on the road against the LOS ANGELES SPARKS (6-19).

The Liberty parlayed their 29-10 opening Quarter lead over Los Angeles into a 57-28 advantage by the Half. After the break, New York coasted to a Century Club level 103-68 triumph over the Sparks. Breanna Stewart’s 27 points led the Liberty.  Continue reading

WNBA: THE GOLDEN STATE VALKYRIES

The WNBA resumes its regular season on August 15th, but for readers who miss the usual look at game results here’s a related WNBA item. A few months back I posted about the two new WNBA franchises that will be debuting.

golden state valkyriesThe GOLDEN STATE VALKYRIES, sponsored by the NBA’s Golden State Warriors, will debut in May of 2025. Their colors will be violet and black, and their home games will be played at the Chase Center in San Francisco.

Already, fans have reserved over 15,000 Season Tickets, which is the MOST EVER FOR A WOMEN’S PROFESSIONAL SPORTS FRANCHISE. And there are still several months left for that figure to rise higher and higher. Continue reading

Comment: The Comets downed the Charlotte Sting in the Semifinals before facing New York in the Championship Game.

NOTE: With only 8 teams in the league for this debut season, doing playoffs by an Eastern Conference and Western Conference was not the format used. No “best of” series until the 1998 season, either, just a 1-game clash each step of the way to the title tilt.    Continue reading

BALLADEER’S BLOG’S WNBA RESULTS: JULY 21st EDITION

DOWN TO THE WIRE – The INDIANA FEVER (11-15) took it on the road against the MINNESOTA LYNX (17-8).

The Fever eked out a 20-19 edge in the 1st Quarter, but Minnesota knotted everything up at 38-38 by Halftime. The Lynx then went on top 60-53 to end the 3rd Quarter, but in the 4th Indiana stormed from behind to win the game 81-74. Kelsey Mitchell led the Fever with 21 points, while her teammates Aliyah Boston and Caitlin Clark contributed a Double Double of 17 & 16, and 17 points, respectively.

BROOKLYN BATTLE AT BARCLAY’S – In this game the NEW YORK LIBERTY (21-4) welcomed the CONNECTICUT SUN (18-6) to the Barclay’s Center.

The 1st Half ended with the Liberty up 45-42 over Connecticut. The Sun proceeded to tie the game at 63-63 in the 3rd Quarter, while the 4th ended in an 82-74 victory for New York. Sabrina Ionescu tossed in THIRTY points to lead the Liberty in this thriller.  Continue reading

BALLADEER’S BLOG: WNBA RESULTS – JULY 14th EDITION

Obviously, I will have more coming regarding larger events, but for right now let’s take a look at WNBA results.

indiana fever logoINDIANA OVER PHOENIX – The INDIANA FEVER (10-14) welcomed the PHOENIX MERCURY (12-11) in this game.

The Fever led Phoenix 28-16, 55-35 and 81-58 in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Quarters respectively. In the 4th, Indiana held off a gallant rally attempt by the Mercury, winning the game 95-86. Kelsey Mitchell’s 28 points led the Fever. CAITLIN CLARK had a Double Double of 20 points and 13 assists, while her teammates Aliyah Boston and NaLyssa Smith logged Double Doubles of their own with 21 & 13 and 14 & 10.

las vegas acesACES WILD – The LAS VEGAS ACES (15-7) took it on the road against the ATLANTA DREAM (7-15) yesterday.

A 44-30 Halftime advantage for the Aces over Atlanta became 57-47 to end the 3rd Quarter. Las Vegas made up the difference in the 4th, taking down the Dream by a final tally of 84-70. The Aces were led by A’ja Wilson with her magnificent Double Double of THIRTY-THREE points and 18 rebounds.    Continue reading
