CUMBERLANDS PATRIOTS HAVE RED WHITE AND BLUE LETTER DAY

On Saturday November 6th at James H. Taylor, II Stadium in Williamsburg, KY the University of the Cumberlands football team hosted Mid-South Conference (MSC) Western Division foe Faulkner University.  The Patriots came out of the locker room looking like a team on a mission and with something to prove as they easily defeated the Eagles 79-7 to remain in contention for a NAIA playoff berth.  The win also gives the Patriots an opportunity to be the MSC Western Division Champions with a win on Saturday against Cumberland University.

With such a dominating performance on the field the Patriots were able to enter the history books as a team and many players were able to break or tie nine Cumberlands football records. Continue reading

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, COLLEGE FOOTBALL!

It was on November 6th, 1869, that Rutgers and Princeton played the very first college football game “on the banks of the Raritan” as the Rutgers fight song says. One of the things I love about college football is how far back its history goes. It feels odd to think that Ulysses S Grant was in the White House when that game was played. If his cabinet members had gotten involved in the sport I’m sure they would have masterminded cheating and recruitment scandals that make today’s revelations look pretty mild by comparison! A pack of larcenous, dishonest weasels in the White House, just like today! The more things change, the more they stay the same! Here’s to 141 years of college football and shallow, clueless  figureheads in the Presidency!

“PLAYOFFS!? YOU’RE TALKING PLAYOFFS?! ARE YOU SERIOUS?”

Jim Mora proving that sometimes a coach just has to lie to keep his team's respect.

As I love to point out, the College Football Divisions covered by Balladeer’s Blog settle it on the field in the form of a playoff. Here’s a nice preview of this weekend’s semifinal games in the Jayhawk Conference.

HCC Sports Information

The Hutchinson Community College football team will play host to its first Region VI playoff game since 2004 when the seventh-ranked Blue Dragons will meet Independence in a semifinal matchup on Sunday.

Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. at Gowans Stadium.

The Blue Dragons haven’t played host to a playoff semifinal game since 1995 when HCC defeated Coffeyville 17-16 in overtime. HCC’s last playoff at home was a quarterfinal game against Highland, a 65-0 semifinal victory. Continue reading
