BALLADEER’S BLOG’S COLLEGE FOOTBALL POSTSEASON RESULTS: DEC 7th

NAIA

FIRST QUARTERFINAL – The BENEDICTINE COLLEGE RAVENS traveled to face the FRIENDS UNIVERSITY FALCONS. A 10-0 1st Quarter lead for the Ravens became a 17-7 score going into Halftime. The 3rd Quarter ended with Benedictine College up 24-15 before they went on to eliminate the Falcons in the 4th 24-18.

SECOND QUARTERFINAL – The COLLEGE OF IDAHO COYOTES were on the road against the undefeated MONTANA TECH OREDIGGERS in this game. At the Half, the Coyotes were clinging to a mere 14-13 edge over Montana Tech. An enormous 3rd Quarter for the College of Idaho put them on top 34-13, then a 4th Quarter rally for the Orediggers fell far short in a 41-26 loss.

THIRD QUARTERFINAL – Next, the undefeated defending national champions – the GRAND VIEW UNIVERSITY VIKINGS (should be Zebras) – welcomed the LINDSEY WILSON COLLEGE BLUE RAIDERS. A 14-0 Grand View lead in the opening Quarter remained unchanged by Halftime. The Blue Raiders trailed 28-7 to end the 3rd Quarter and the champs won 35-7 in the 4th.

FOURTH QUARTERFINAL – Very ugly news regarding this game. The KEISER UNIVERSITY SEAHAWKS advanced straight to the Semifinals after their scheduled opponent – the MARIAN UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS – confessed to a violation forcing them to drop out. In the 15 years I’ve covered NAIA football here this is only the 2nd such situation.

NCAA DIVISION TWO

QUARTERFINAL ONE – The HARDING UNIVERSITY BISON took the field against the visiting UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT THE PERMIAN BASIN FALCONS. The Bison expanded their 14-7 1st Quarter advantage into a 31-21 lead at the midpoint. The Falcons pulled to within 34-28 in the 3rd Quarter and neither team scored in the 4th, so that was the final tally as well.

QUARTERFINAL TWO – The NEWBERRY COLLEGE WOLVES paid a visit to the ALBANY (GA) STATE GOLDEN RAMS. The Golden Rams seized a 21-3 score atop Newberry College in the opening Quarter, then stalled. By Halftime the Wolves led 24-21 and 31-24 to end the 3rd Quarter. The 4th was scoreless, so 31-24 was the final score.

QUARTERFINAL THREE – In this game the KUTZTOWN UNIVERSITY GOLDEN BEARS played host to the FROSTBURG STATE BOBCATS. A 14-13 1st Quarter edge for the Golden Bears became 28-21 at the break. From there, Kutztown U. outscored the Bobcats 23-9 to advance to the Semifinals with a 51-29 victory.

QUARTERFINAL FOUR – The defending national champions – the FERRIS STATE BULLDOGS – welcomed the MINNESOTA STATE MAVERICKS. The opening Quarter ended with the Mavericks on top 7-3 before Ferris State went up 24-14 by Halftime. The Bulldogs led 27-21 going into the 4th Quarter, which ended in a 52-29 triumph for them.

HERITAGE BOWL – This Bowl game pitted the WEST TEXAS A&M BUFFALOES against the ARKANSAS TECH WONDERBOYS. The Wonderboys led 7-0 in the opening Quarter, but West Texas A&M were on top 14-7 come the midpoint. The 3rd Quarter ended with the Buffaloes in front 28-13 but Arkansas Tech rallied furiously in the 4th, only to fall just short as WTAM won 28-27.

ALBANESE CANDY BOWL – Up next, the UPPER IOWA UNIVERSITY PEACOCKS clashed with the storied HILLSDALE COLLEGE CHARGERS. The Peacocks led Hillsdale College 17-8 and 24-15 in the 1st and 2nd Quarters. The Chargers pulled to within 24-22 to end the 3rd, but the 4th Quarter saw Upper Iowa pull away for a 37-28 victory.

FIRST AMERICANS BOWL – The NORTHEASTERN STATE RIVERHAWKS did battle with the EAST CENTRAL UNIVERSITY TIGERS. This turned out to be a very lopsided game all the way. The Riverhawks were in the lead 21-7, 35-7 and 49-14 in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Quarters, respectively. In the 4th, Northeastern State put the Tigers out of their misery 56-21.

NCAA DIVISION THREE

ROUND THREE: GAME ONE – The JOHN CARROLL UNIVERSITY BLUE STREAKS took it on the road against the UNIVERSITY OF MOUNT UNION PURPLE RAIDERS. This was the weirdest game of the day and was nearly all defense. A 7-0 1st Quarter edge for the Purple Raiders was unchanged at Halftime. The Blue Streaks forced Overtime with a 7-7 tie. Neither team scored (of course) in the 1st OT, but JCU triumphed 10-7 in Double Overtime.

ROUND THREE: GAME TWO – The JOHNS HOPKINS UNIVERSITY BLUEJAYS played the visiting SALISBURY UNIVERSITY SEA GULLS. A 7-7 opening Quarter tie became a 24-13 Bluejays advantage at the Half. Johns Hopkins shut out the Sea Gulls from there while adding another 3 Touchdowns to their own tally for a 45-13 smackdown.

ROUND THREE: GAME THREE – The BERRY UNIVERSITY VIKINGS welcomed the TRINITY (TX) TIGERS in this game. A scoreless 1st Quarter morphed into a 22-0 Vikings advantage by the break. In the 3rd Quarter, the Tigers pulled to within 28-15 but Berry University held on in the 4th to win the game 31-23.

ROUND THREE: GAME FOUR – The WHEATON COLLEGE THUNDER traveled to face the DEPAUW UNIVERSITY TIGERS. The opening Quarter ended knotted up 7-7, but the Thunder struck (see what I did there) in the 2nd to take a 28-10 lead. They got more separation from the Tigers after the break, notching a 49-24 victory.

ROUND THREE: GAME FIVE – This game was strictly for the birds as the SUSQUEHANNA UNIVERSITY RIVERHAWKS visited the EASTERN UNIVERSITY EAGLES. The Riverhawks achieved defensive perfection, leading Eastern University 6-0, 8-0 and 15-0 in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Quarters before consummating the Shutout 29-0 in the 4th.

ROUND THREE: GAME SIX – Another avian affair was in store here with the defending national champions – the NORTH CENTRAL COLLEGE CARDINALS – hosting the UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN AT LACROSSE EAGLES. The Cardinals seemed comfortably in charge 28-7 at the Half, but then had to hold on against UW-Lacrosse to win the game 35-27.

ROUND THREE: GAME SEVEN – The BETHEL (MN) ROYALS took the field against the visiting UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN AT PLATTEVILLE PIONEERS. The Pioneers were on top 10-7 in the 1st Quarter before Bethel University went up 14-10 by Halftime. After the break the Royals left UW-Platteville further and further behind for a 35-24 victory.

ROUND THREE: GAME EIGHT – The UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN AT RIVER FALLS FALCONS finally got a win for the Badger State against their guests the ST. JOHN’S UNIVERSITY JOHNNIES. A 7-7 opening Quarter tie turned into a 14-7 Halftime lead for the Falcons. UW-River Falls owned the Johnnies from there, clobbering them 42-14.

NJCAA DIVISION ONE

FIRST SEMIFINAL – The IOWA WESTERN COLLEGE REIVERS were at home against the TYLER COLLEGE APACHES. By Halftime it was all over but the shouting as the Reivers were out in front of Tyler College by a count of 31-10. A scoreless 3rd Quarter was followed by Iowa Western enduring an Apaches rally in the 4th to win out 41-29.

SECOND SEMIFINAL – The defending national champions – the HUTCHINSON COLLEGE BLUE DRAGONS – made it a rematch of last year’s title tilt with their defeat of the visiting NORTHWEST MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE RANGERS. The outcome was never in question as the Blue Dragons converted a 24-0 midpoint lead into a 27-0 Shutout.

NJCAA DIVISION THREE

NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME – There is no Division Two in NJCAA football. This D3 clash for the crown pitted the dynastic COLLEGE OF DUPAGE CHAPARRALS against the visiting NORTH DAKOTA STATE COLLEGE OF SCIENCE WILDCATS. The Chaparrals dominated NDSCS with a 22-7 Halftime advantage before polishing them off 36-13 from there. The Chaps have won FIVE titles in a row.

CCCAA

SEMIFINAL ONE – The GOLDEN WEST COLLEGE RUSTLERS took the field against their guests – the SADDLEBACK COLLEGE GAUCHOS. The Rustlers led 6-0 in the 1st Quarter and 23-7 at the Half. In the 3rd Quarter the Gauchos pulled to within 23-15 only to see Golden West College pull away in the 4th for a 33-15 triumph.

SEMIFINAL TWO – In this game the defending champions – the COLLEGE OF SAN MATEO BULLDOGS – entertained the MODESTO COLLEGE PIRATES. The Bulldogs kept Modesto College off the scoreboard until the 4th Quarter as they led 7-0, 21-0 and 38-0 in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Quarters, respectively. The College of San Mateo squashed the Pirates 38-7.
