If like me you’re often tired of so many college sports teams being called Eagles, Tigers, Bulldogs and Wildcats here’s another example of something comparatively unique.
ARKANSAS STATE UNIVERSITY AT NEWPORT
Team Name: AVIATORS
Location: Newport, AR
Division: NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association)
Comment: ASUN was established in 1976. As a nod toward the way its technical education programs were originally linked to the old Newport Air Base the institution called its sports teams the Aviators. Arkansas State at Newport launched intercollegiate sports in 2022.
