BALLADEER’S BLOG: COLLEGE FOOTBALL RESULTS FROM DEC SEVENTH

NAIA PLAYOFFS

FIRST QUARTERFINAL – The BENEDICTINE COLLEGE RAVENS traveled to play the INDIANA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY WILDCATS. The Ravens were surprisingly dominant over the favored Wildcats, keeping them off the scoreboard until the 4th Quarter. BC was up 17-0 by Halftime and won the game by a final tally of 20-9.

SECOND QUARTERFINAL – In this game the GRAND VIEW UNIVERSITY VIKINGS took the field against the visiting NORTHWESTERN (IA) COLLEGE RED RAIDERS. This unusual affair saw Grand View out in front 7-0 to end the 1st Quarter and 17-0 at the Half. Seventeen to nothing held up as the final score as well.

THIRD QUARTERFINAL – The defending National Champs – the KEISER UNIVERSITY SEAHAWKS – entertained the GEORGETOWN (KY) COLLEGE TIGERS. The opening Quarter ended in a 7-7 deadlock, but the Half ended with the Seahawks on top 24-7. From there Keiser University coasted to a 38-22 victory.

FOURTH QUARTERFINAL – And the MORNINGSIDE UNIVERSITY MUSTANGS were on the road at the UNIVERSITY OF MONTANA-WESTERN BULLDOGS. This was a tale of 2 Halves as the Bulldogs led 10-0 and 24-10 in the 1st and 2nd Quarters. After the break the Mustangs took over, shutting out UM-Western and winning the game 31-24. 

NCAA DIV TWO PLAYOFFS

QUARTERFINAL ONE – The VALDOSTA STATE BLAZERS defended their home turf from the VIRGINIA UNION UNIVERSITY PANTHERS. The Blazers grabbed a quick 7-0 lead and never looked back from there. Valdosta State led the Panthers 28-7 at Halftime and 42-7 in the 3rd Quarter enroute to a 49-14 beatdown. 

QUARTERFINAL TWO – Next, the SLIPPERY ROCK UNIVERSITY ROCK visited the CALIFORNIA (PA) VULCANS. By the midpoint the Rock possessed a 21-0 advantage. After that the 3rd Quarter ended with them up 24-7 and the 4th in a 31-13 win over the Vulcans.

QUARTERFINAL THREE – The FERRIS STATE BULLDOGS welcomed the defending National Champs – the HARDING UNIVERSITY BISON. It was no contest as the Bulldogs kept the Bison scoreless until the final Quarter. Meanwhile, Ferris State was piling up the points for themselves on their way to a 41-7 blowout.

QUARTERFINAL FOUR – This game pitted the MINNESOTA STATE MAVERICKS against the visiting BEMIDJI STATE BEAVERS. The Beavers led 3-0 in the opening Quarter and 17-14 come Halftime. After the break the Mavericks cut it to a 23-21 score to end the 3rd Quarter before winning out 27-23.   

NCAA DIV THREE PLAYOFFS

ROUND THREE: GAME ONE – The UNIVERSITY OF MOUNT UNION PURPLE RAIDERS welcomed the CARNEGIE MELLON UNIVERSITY TARTANS. A 7-7 1st Quarter tie became a 14-13 Purple Raiders edge at the Half. From there Mt. Union outscored the Tartans 10-6 to win the game 24-19.

springfield college prideROUND THREE: GAME TWO – In this game the SPRINGFIELD COLLEGE PRIDE visited the defending National Champs – the CORTLAND STATE RED DRAGONS. The Pride put Cortland State on Upset Alert by the midpoint with their 27-21 lead. The 3rd Quarter saw the teams exchange 7 points each and the 4th ended in a 40-28 SC victory.

ROUND THREE: GAME THREE – The JOHNS HOPKINS UNIVERSITY BLUE JAYS took it on the road against the DEPAUW UNIVERSITY TIGERS. A scoreless opening Quarter was followed by a 14-0 Blue Jays advantage at Halftime. The Tigers made it a 14-3 game in the 3rd Quarter before losing out 14-9 in the 4th.

ROUND THREE: GAME FOUR – Up next the SALISBURY UNIVERSITY SEA GULLS played host to the RANDOLPH-MACON COLLEGE YELLOW JACKETS. Neither team put up points in the 1st Quarter but the Sea Gulls took charge from there, leading 14-0 by the Half and 28-0 to end the 3rd Quarter. The final count was SU 35  Yellow Jackets 14.

ROUND THREE: GAME FIVE – The BETHEL (MN) ROYALS battled the home standing WARTBURG COLLEGE KNIGHTS. A 7-7 opening Quarter tie turned into a 17-7 lead for the Royals by Halftime. The Knights made it a 17-14 game in the 3rd Quarter but Bethel U. went on to win 24-14.   

ROUND THREE: GAME SIX – This game pitted the SUSQUEHANNA UNIVERSITY RIVERHAWKS against their hosts, the SAINT JOHN’S UNIVERSITY JOHNNIES. After spotting the Johnnies a 3-0 1st Quarter edge the Riverhawks made it a 17-17 tie at the Half. After the break Susquehanna outscored SJU 24-21 for a 41-38 triumph.

ROUND THREE: GAME SEVEN – The NORTH CENTRAL COLLEGE CARDINALS battled the visiting HOPE COLLEGE FLYING DUTCHMEN. By the midpoint of the game the Cardinals held a 21-7 advantage. From there North Central left the Flying Dutchmen further and further behind on their way to a 41-21 victory.

helmetmaryhardinbaylorROUND THREE: GAME EIGHT – And the UNIVERSITY OF MARY HARDIN-BAYLOR CRUSADERS paid a call on the LINFIELD COLLEGE WILDCATS. The Wildcats were on top 3-0 in the 1st Quarter but the Crusaders went up 14-3 as Halftime rolled around. After the break UMHB led 21-10 in the 3rd Quarter before winning the game 28-18.  

NJCAA DIV ONE PLAYOFFS

FIRST SEMIFINAL – This game pitted the defending National Champs – the IOWA WESTERN COLLEGE REIVERS – against the visiting NORTHWEST MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE RANGERS. A 14-14 tie ended the opening Quarter before the Reivers took a 28-21 lead into the locker room. Iowa Western shut out the Rangers from there for a 42-21 victory.

Hutchinson Blue DragonsSECOND SEMIFINAL – The HUTCHINSON COLLEGE BLUE DRAGONS played host to the GEORGIA MILITARY COLLEGE BULLDOGS. Georgia Military College led 7-0 in the 1st Quarter but by the Half the Blue Dragons went on top 28-21. After the break Hutchinson College blanked the Bulldogs while racking up the points for a 63-21 massacre.

NJCAA DIV THREE PLAYOFFS

NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME – The defending National Champs, the COLLEGE OF DUPAGE CHAPARRALS, sought to continue their monopoly on the NJCAA D3 title as they faced the LOUISBURG COLLEGE HURRICANES. Once again, the Chaparrals dominated, leading 24-7 at Halftime before winning out 31-14. * The DuPage Dynasty continues at 4 in a row!

CCCAA PLAYOFFS

San Mateo BulldogsNORTHERN CALIFORNIA CHAMPIONSHIP GAME – In this game the COLLEGE OF SAN MATEO BULLDOGS hosted the MODESTO COLLEGE PIRATES. At the break the Bulldogs were on top of Modesto College 14-7. The 3rd Quarter ended with San Mateo clinging to a mere 17-16 edge before holding on in the 4th for a 27-22 victory.

Mount San Antonio College MountiesSOUTHERN CALIFORNIA CHAMPIONSHIP GAME – The MOUNT SAN ANTONIO COLLEGE MOUNTIES welcomed the defending Champs, the RIVERSIDE CITY COLLEGE TIGERS. The Mounties led 13-7 in the 1st Quarter and 27-21 by Halftime. In the 3rd Quarter the Tigers went up 28-27, while the 4th saw Mt. SAC come from behind to win the game 37-35.

** It’s Mounties vs Bulldogs for the CCCAA title next week. **

NCAA DIV TWO BOWL GAMES

HERITAGE BOWL – This Bowl pitted the UNIVERSITY OF CENTRAL MISSOURI MULES against the UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT THE PERMIAN BASIN FALCONS. The Falcons were on top 20-14 at Halftime but the Mules forced Overtime with a 28-28 tie in the 4th Quarter. The 1st OT ended in a 31-31 deadlock, but Central Missouri won 39-37 in the 2nd OT.

AMERICA’S CROSSROADS BOWL – The TRUMAN STATE BULLDOGS took the field against the TIFFIN UNIVERSITY DRAGONS. The Bulldogs led the Dragons 10-0 in the 1st Quarter and 16-3 by the Half. Neither team scored in the 3rd Quarter, and the 4th ended in a 29-10 Truman State victory.

NJCAA BOWL GAMES

Navarro CollegeHEART OF TEXAS BOWL – The NAVARRO COLLEGE BULLDOGS took their defense of the Lone Star State’s honor in this Bowl seriously as they played Kansas’ COFFEYVILLE COLLEGE RED RAVENS. The Bulldogs smothered the Red Ravens defensively and lit them up offensively for a 31-0 manhandling. 

iowa central college tritons helmetGAME ONE BOWL – In this Bowl the IOWA CENTRAL COLLEGE TRITONS fought it out with the NORTH DAKOTA STATE COLLEGE OF SCIENCE WILDCATS. “Mismatch” would be the kindest word for the game as the Tritons only gave up a half dozen points while folding, spindling and mutilating the Wildcats to the tune of 49-6.

CCCAA BOWL GAMES

Monterey Peninsula LobosAMERICAN CHAMPIONSHIP BOWL – The MONTEREY PENINSULA COLLEGE LOBOS played the DE ANZA COLLEGE MOUNTAIN LIONS. Neither team scored in the opening Quarter but the score was tied at 6-6 come Halftime. The Lobos went up 13-6 in the 3rd Quarter then held on to win the defensive epic 13-12 in the 4th.

san jose city college jaguarsNORTHERN CALIFORNIA BOWL – This Bowl pitted the SAN JOSE CITY COLLEGE JAGUARS against the COLLEGE OF THE SISKIYOUS EAGLES (should be the Riverhawks). The Jaguars led 14-0 to end the 1st Quarter and didn’t let up from there. A 35-7 advantage at the Half ultimately became a 59-27 victory.

Butte CollegeLEAGUE RIVALS BOWL – The BUTTE COLLEGE ROADRUNNERS squared off against the FOOTHILL COLLEGE OWLS on Saturday. The Roadrunners were in charge during the opening Half, leading 3-0 and 16-7 in the 1st and 2nd Quarters. The Owls mounted a furious rally from there but came up just short as Butte College triumphed 33-27.

College of the redwoods corsairs helmetGRIZZLY BOWL – The COLLEGE OF THE REDWOODS CORSAIRS battled the WEST HILLS COLLEGE AT COALINGA FALCONS. A 7-7 opening Quarter tie turned into a 20-13 Falcons lead at Halftime. The Corsairs exploded in the 3rd Quarter to go on top 30-20, then won the game 37-26 in the 4th.
