HEADLINES

DOWN GOES NUMBER FOUR – In the NAIA the CUMBERLAND UNIVERSITY PHOENIX hosted the number 4 team in the nation – the BETHEL (TN) WILDCATS. Neither team scored in the opening Quarter, but the score was tied at 7-7 come Halftime. After the break, the Phoenix outscored Bethel University 14-7 for a 21-14 Upset.

INDIE TEAM OVER NCAA – This game saw the independent NEWPORT NEWS APPRENTICE SCHOOL BUILDERS (Shipbuilders) welcoming the D3 MAINE MARITIME ACADEMY MARINERS. The Builders returned the opening kickoff for a Touchdown, then notched a 35-12 1st Quarter lead. The Apprentice School never looked back from there, demolishing the Mariners SEVENTY-TWO to TWENTY-SIX!

texas permian basinNUMBER SEVEN TAKES A FALL – Meanwhile, in NCAA Division Two, the UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT PERMIAN BASIN FALCONS played the home standing 7th ranked CENTRAL WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY WILDCATS. By Halftime the Wildcats led 7-0 and 13-7 in the 3rd Quarter. The 4th saw UTPB squeeze out a 14-13 victory. 

KNOCKING OFF NUMBER TEN – Down in NCAA Division Three, the UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN AT STOUT BLUE DEVILS took the field against the visiting 10th ranked UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN AT WHITEWATER WARHAWKS. The Warhawks were on top 17-10 to end the opening Quarter, but the Blue Devils went up 23-20 by the Half. From there Stout won a 29-27 thriller.

SERVICE ACADEMY MANIA – The UNITED STATES MERCHANT MARINE ACADEMY MARINERS traveled to face the MASSACHUSETTS INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY ENGINEERS. The Mariners’ 7-0 1st Quarter lead remained unchanged at Halftime. After the break USMMA preserved their shutout while adding a Touchdown in the 3rd and 4th Quarters for a 21-0 triumph.

East Central Warriors helmetUPSETTING NUMBER THREE – Down in the NJCAA, the EAST CENTRAL COLLEGE WARRIORS took on the visiting number 3 team in the country – the MISSISSIPPI GULF COAST COLLEGE BULLDOGS. The Warriors put MGCC on Upset Alert by the Half with their 15-14 edge. After a scoreless 3rd Quarter ECC managed a 24-20 win.

NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics)

OTHER UPSETS IN THE RANKINGS – The only other Upset in the NAIA rankings came in the game between the UNIVERSITY OF THE CUMBERLANDS PATRIOTS and their guests, the number 23 LINDSEY WILSON COLLEGE BLUE RAIDERS. After a scoreless opening Quarter, the Patriots held a 15-7 advantage at the midpoint. The Blue Raiders made it 15-14 in the 3rd Quarter, but UC won 18-14 in the 4th.

Langston LionsINSTANT CLASSICS – The LANGSTON UNIVERSITY LIONS won a 35-31 nail-biter at the OKLAHOMA PANHANDLE STATE AGGIES (should be Okies)   ###   Meanwhile, the (7) UNIVERSITY OF MONTANA-WESTERN BULLDOGS defeated the (12) MONTANA TECH OREDIGGERS 27-21   ###   And the EASTERN OREGON UNIVERSITY MOUNTAINEERS survived a 28-21 visit from the UM-NORTHERN LIGHTS.

dordt unversity defendersGETTING A JUMP ON THE WEEKEND – On Friday night the number 5 DORDT UNIVERSITY DEFENDERS took it on the road against the MOUNT MARTY UNIVERSITY LANCERS. A 7-7 1st Quarter tie was followed by a 14-7 Defenders lead by Halftime. The 3rd Quarter ended with Dordt on top of the Lancers 21-17 before putting them away 35-17 in the 4th.

College of Idaho Coyotes NEW HELMETBEATDOWNS – The (15) COLLEGE OF IDAHO COYOTES played the visiting ARIZONA CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY FIRESTORM and mauled them 52-27   ###   Elsewhere, the (21) DICKINSON STATE BLUE HAWKS won 38-21 at the DAKOTA STATE TROJANS   ###   And the (20) ST. XAVIER UNIVERSITY COUGARS tore apart the DEFIANCE COLLEGE YELLOW JACKETS 45-14. 

NCCAA (National Christian College Athletic Association)

Wayland BaptistROAD WARRIORS – The WAYLAND BAPTIST UNIVERSITY PIONEERS (should be Flying Ws) defeated the NELSON UNIVERSITY (formerly Southwestern Assemblies of God University) LIONS 27-7    ###    And the UNIVERSITY OF PIKEVILLE BEARS delivered a 66-34 humiliation to the KENTUCKY CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS.

Ottawa (AZ) SpiritFIGHTING SPIRIT – In this game the OTTAWA UNIVERSITY (AZ) SPIRIT played host to the SIMPSON UNIVERSITY REDHAWKS. The Spirit kept the Redhawks off the scoreboard until the 4th Quarter while putting up 35, 14 and 27 points for themselves in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Quarters, respectively. Ottawa U. eviscerated Simpson SEVENTY-SIX to FOURTEEN!

northwestern mn eagles helmetEAGLES IN FLIGHT – The UNIVERSITY OF NORTHWESTERN (MN) EAGLES found themselves on the road against the GREENVILLE UNIVERSITY PANTHERS. The Eagles turned their 7-0 1st Quarter lead into 20-7 by the break. From there, UNM pretty much coasted all the way to an authoritative 34-14 victory.

Washington and Jefferson PresidentsHOME AND AWAY – HOME: The WASHINGTON & JEFFERSON COLLEGE PRESIDENTS were less than gracious hosts to the GENEVA COLLEGE GOLDEN TORNADOES as they proceeded to eviscerate them 73-21    ###    AWAY: The MARTIN LUTHER COLLEGE KNIGHTS won 30-14 at the CROWN COLLEGE POLARS.  

NCAA DIVISION TWO

West Florida Argonauts helmetOTHER UPSETS IN THE RANKINGS – The UNIVERSITY OF WEST FLORIDA ARGONAUTS sent the number 25 DELTA STATE STATESMEN back home nursing a 40-12 loss    ###    And the ASHLAND UNIVERSITY EAGLES took it on the road against the 23rd ranked UNIVERSITY OF FINDLAY OILERS and clobbered them 41-21.

Shippensburg Red RaidersSWASHBUCKLING – The SHIPPENSBURG UNIVERSITY RED RAIDERS paid a visit to the MILLERSVILLE UNIVERSITY MARAUDERS. The Marauders led 14-0 in the opening Quarter and 24-14 at Halftime. From there the Red Raiders went up 28-27 to end the 3rd Quarter before winning out in the 4th by a final tally of 35-27.

Henderson State Reddies helmetALL NAME GAMES – The HENDERSON STATE REDDIES crushed their hosts the SOUTHERN NAZARENE UNIVERSITY CRIMSON STORM 48-21   ###   Meanwhile, the SOUTHEASTERN OKLAHOMA STATE SAVAGE STORM shut out the home standing ARKANSAS UNIVERSITY AT MONTICELLO BOLL WEEVILS 27-0   ###   And the CALIFORNIA UNIVERSITY (PA) VULCANS won 28-21 at the SETON HILL UNIVERSITY GRIFFINS. 

Upper Iowa Peacocks helmet NEWPUTTING IN OVERTIME – Four Quarters weren’t enough in this game between the UPPER IOWA UNIVERSITY PEACKOCKS and the visiting WILLIAM JEWELL UNIVERSITY CARDINALS. The Peacocks led comfortably 24-6 at the midpoint but the Cardinals tied things up 31-31 to end Regulation. In the extra session Upper Iowa triumphed 38-31.

NCAA DIVISION THREE

Oshkosh TitansUPSETS IN THE RANKINGS – The number 20 UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN AT OSHKOSH TITANS were at home against the 12th ranked UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN AT LACROSSE EAGLES and won out 34-33    ###    And the 11th ranked UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN AT PLATTEVILLE PIONEERS toppled the number 4 UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN AT FALL RIVER FALCONS 28-7.

Coe KohawksA DOUBLE SHOT OF THAT OT LOVE – In this game the COE COLLEGE KOHAWKS took the field against the visiting CENTRAL COLLEGE DUTCH. The defenses dominated so thoroughly that by Halftime the Kohawks were up only 3-0 and the 4th Quarter ended in a 3-3 tie. The 1st Overtime resulted in a 10-10 deadlock but in the 2nd OT Coe College triumphed 16-13. 

Curry ColonelsCOLONELS ON TOP – The CURRY COLLEGE COLONELS defeated the ALFRED STATE PIONEERS by a score of 30-16   ###   Elsewhere, the WILKES COLLEGE COLONELS nearly doubled up on the visiting LYCOMING COLLEGE WARRIORS 53-26   ###   And the CENTRE COLLEGE COLONELS won 24-20 at the MILLSAPS COLLEGE MAJORS.

Illinois College Blue Boys helmetCOLORFUL TEAMS – This game pitted the ILLINOIS COLLEGE BLUEBOYS against the visiting UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO MAROONS. The Blueboys were on top of their opponents 21-17 in the 1st Quarter and 34-24 at the Half. After the break Illinois College got more separation from the Maroons for a 50-37 victory. 

NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association)

Hutchinson Blue DragonsNUMBER ONE ROLLS – The top ranked HUTCHINSON COLLEGE BLUE DRAGONS paid a visit to the INDEPENDENCE COLLEGE PIRATES. The Blue Dragons dominated on both sides of the ball, leading the Pirates 24-7 by Halftime. From there Hutchinson College left IC further and further behind on their way to winning the game 48-7.

New Mexico Mil Inst BroncosKINGS OF THE ROAD – The NEW MEXICO MILITARY INSTITUTE BRONCOS (should be the Cavalry) surprised the (11) CISCO COLLEGE WRANGLERS 20-5   ###   The SUSSEX COUNTY COLLEGE SKYLANDERS won 26-21 at the HUDSON VALLEY COLLEGE VIKINGS   ###   And the (14) COFFEYVILLE COLLEGE RED RAVENS beat the IOWA CENTRAL COLLEGE TRITONS 31-20.

Butler (KS) GrizzliesUNDER THE RADAR CLASSICS – The BUTLER (KS) GRIZZLIES managed a tight 16-10 victory at the HIGHLAND COLLEGE SCOTTIES   ###   Elsewhere, the ERIE COLLEGE KATS defeated their hosts the NASSAU COUNTY COLLEGE LIONS by a score of 14-7   ###   And the NORTH DAKOTA STATE COLLEGE OF SCIENCE WILDCATS edged the home standing ROCHESTER TECH YELLOW JACKETS 28-25.

Tyler College Apaches helmet NEWWORKIN’ OVERTIME – In this game the TYLER COLLEGE APACHES took it on the road against the BLINN COLLEGE BUCCANEERS. A 7-0 1st Quarter lead for the Bucs remained unchanged at Halftime. The Apaches forced OT with a 7-7 4th Quarter tie. In the extra session Blinn scored a Field Goal which Tyler answered with a Touchdown for a 13-10 triumph. ** Also in OT, the VERMILION COLLEGE IRONHAWKS won 14-8 at the CLC-BRAINERD RAIDERS. 

CCCAA (California Community College Athletic Association)

College of the redwoods corsairs helmetTHE HIGH SEAS – The COLLEGE OF THE REDWOODS CORSAIRS raided the home turf of the LOS MEDANOS COLLEGE MUSTANGS. The Corsairs were on top 14-7 by the midpoint of the game. In the 3rd Quarter the College of the Redwoods floored it to go up 30-13 and in the 4th they won the game 44-31.

reedley tigersTHIRTY-ONE FOR THE WIN – The REEDLEY COLLEGE TIGERS played host to the FEATHER RIVER COLLEGE GOLDEN EAGLES and defeated them in a 31-28 thriller    ###    And the MERCED COLLEGE BLUE DEVILS visited the GAVILAN COLLEGE RAMS and were able to pull off a 31-23 victory.

Glendale (CA) Vaqueros helmetROAD RAGE – Up next the GLENDALE COLLEGE VAQUEROS found themselves on the road against the COLLEGE OF THE DESERT ROADRUNNERS. The Vaqueros parlayed a 7-0 1st Quarter edge into a 28-0 Halftime advantage, then a 35-0 lead to end the 3rd Quarter. Glendale College consummated their win 42-7 in the 4th.

Monterey Peninsula LobosBATTLE OF THE COOL HELMETS – Two teams with some of the coolest helmets in the CCCAA squared off as the MONTEREY PENINSULA COLLEGE LOBOS visited the SAN JOSE CITY COLLEGE JAGUARS. The Lobos led San Jose City College 6-0, 13-7 and 16-10 in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Quarters, respectively. The 4th ended with MPC winning out 23-10.
