With the WNBA regular season ending tomorrow night, here are some of the latest results. The playoffs begin on Sunday.
CENTURY CLUB CLASSIC – The INDIANA FEVER (20-19) hosted the DALLAS WINGS (9-30).
Dallas led 34-26 to end the 1st Quarter, but the Fever cut that lead to just 59-57 by Halftime. In the 3rd Quarter Indiana went on top of the Wings 84-83, and the 4th saw each team add 26 points as the Fever won the game 110-109. Caitlin Clark led the victors with her THIRTY-FIVE points and 8 assists.
DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA DREAMING – Up next the ATLANTA DREAM (14-25) took it on the road against the WASHINGTON MYSTICS (13-26).
At the Half, the Dream were on top of Washington 39-32. The 3rd Quarter ended with the Mystics trailing by just 54-53. The 4th ended in a 70-70 tie, and in Overtime Atlanta managed a 76-73 triumph. Tina Charles led the way for the Dream with her Double Double of 20 points and 10 rebounds.
HOLDING ON BY THEIR FINGERTIPS – This game pitted the SEATTLE STORM (24-15) against the visiting LOS ANGELES SPARKS (7-31).
The Storm led L.A. 24-15 and 52-38 in the 1st and 2nd Quarters, respectively. After the break, the Sparks rallied to a tighter 73-65 deficit in the 3rd Quarter, but ultimately fell short as Seattle defended their home court with a thrilling 90-87 win. The Storm were led by Nneka Ogwumike with 23 points.
PHOENIX IN THE WINDY CITY – The PHOENIX MERCURY (18-20) paid a visit to the CHICAGO SKY (13-26).
Chicago held a 24-22 edge to end the 1st Quarter, then each team put up 33 more points for a Halftime score of 57-55. From there the Mercury outscored the Sky 38-31 for a 93-88 come from behind victory. Brittney Griner logged a Double Double of 26 points and 10 rebounds to lead Phoenix, while teammate Natasha Cloud got a Double Double of 18 points and 11 assists.
CHASE THE CATS – The MINNESOTA LYNX (30-9) clashed with the home standing league leaders, the NEW YORK LIBERTY (32-7).
By the midpoint, the Lynx were in front 52-39. In the 3rd Quarter Minnesota extended that lead to 74-50, but in the 4th a wild Liberty rally cut into the Lynx advantage. Minnesota did hold on to win the game 88-79. Nineteen points from Bridget Carleton led the Lynx, and teammate Napheesa Collier had a Double Double of 18 points and 13 rebounds.
CLOSING GAMBIT – In this game the LAS VEGAS ACES (26-13) turned out to be less than gracious hosts to the CONNECTICUT SUN (27-12).
The Aces led Connecticut 29-25, 48-40 and 71-51 in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Quarters, respectively. The 4th saw Las Vegas maintain enough distance from the Sun to win the game by a final tally of 84-71. A’ja Wilson tossed in 29 points to lead the Aces.
