WISCONSIN TEAMS TAKE DOWN DIVISION TWO – The NCAA Division Three UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN AT WHITEWATER WARHAWKS visited Division Two’s ROOSEVELT UNIVERSITY LAKERS and logged a 24-14 victory ### And the D3 UW-LACROSSE EAGLES toppled their guests, D2’s NORTHERN MICHIGAN UNIVERSITY WILDCATS 35-21.
KEISER WAS WISER THAN DIVISION TWO – Up in the NAIA the KEISER UNIVERSITY SEAHAWKS traveled to face the NCAA Division 2 NEWBERRY COLLEGE WOLVES. This hard-fought affair ended with the Seahawks defeating the Wolves 42-33 for their 2nd victory in a row over a D2 team.
NUMBER THREE TAKES A FALL – Also in the NAIA the 9th ranked UNIVERSITY OF MONTANA-WESTERN BULLDOGS played host to the country’s number 3 team – the COLLEGE OF IDAHO COYOTES. The Dawgs challenged College of Idaho’s right to even be in the Top Ten as they led them 28-10 at the midpoint and ultimately handed the Coyotes a 42-25 beating.
ANOTHER NUMBER THREE TAKES A TUMBLE – In D2 the EMPORIA STATE HORNETS took it on the road against the number 3 team in the nation – the PITTSBURG (KS) STATE GORILLAS. The Hornets had stung some fear into the Gorillas with their 17-7 Halftime advantage. Neither team scored in the 3rd Quarter but the 4th ended in a 24-21 win for Emporia State.
THAT WAS NUMBER FIIIIVE! – In this D3 game the 12th ranked ST. JOHN’S UNIVERSITY JOHNNIES (the favorite team of my British readers) welcomed the number 5 team in the nation – the WARTBURG COLLEGE KNIGHTS. A 7-7 1st Quarter tie became a 14-7 Johnnies lead at the Half. After the break SJU dominated the Knights all the way to a 35-13 triumph.
CLOBBERING NUMBER EIGHT – The NAIA’s 10th ranked ST. THOMAS UNIVERSITY BOBCATS (should be Tomcats) traveled to face the 8th ranked ST. XAVIER UNIVERSITY COUGARS. The Bobcats parlayed a 6-0 opening Quarter edge into a 27-7 advantage at Halftime. A scoreless 3rd Quarter was followed by a 33-14 St. Thomas victory.
KNOCKING OFF NUMBER ONE – Way down in the CCCAA the number 8 GOLDEN WEST COLLEGE RUSTLERS welcomed the number 1 RIVERSIDE CITY COLLEGE TIGERS yesterday. The Rustlers put Riverside City on Upset Alert after leading 21-19 in the 1st Quarter and 27-26 at the Half. The Tigers went up 33-30 in the 3rd but Golden West pulled out a 37-36 win in the 4th.
EIGHTY – In the butt kicking of the day, the TEXAS WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY RAMS were less than gracious hosts to the NORTH AMERICAN UNIVERSITY STALLIONS. The Rams spent 4 Quarters folding, spindling and mutilating the Stallions, ultimately winning by a final count of EIGHTY to NOTHING!
NAIA VS NCAA DIVISION THREE
*** Every fall Balladeer’s Blog covers the rivalry between the NAIA and D3. Last week the NAIA was a big winner, but D3 flipped that this week.
NCAA D3 OVER NAIA – The NEBRASKA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY PRAIRIE WOLVES won 34-24 at the MAYVILLE STATE COMETS ### Elsewhere, the UW-STOUT BLUE DEVILS downed the home standing DICKINSON STATE BLUE HAWKS 22-20 ### And the ADRIAN COLLEGE BULLDOGS routed the MADONNA UNIVERSITY CRUSADERS 38-20.
NAIA OVER D3 – In this game the NELSON UNIVERSITY (formerly the Southwestern Assemblies of God University) LIONS took the field against the visiting HOWARD PAYNE UNIVERSITY YELLOW JACKETS. At Halftime the Lions were comfortably on top 22-0 but after the break the Yellow Jackets launched a wild rally. Nelson University held on for a 29-27 win.
NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF INTERCOLLEGIATE ATHLETICS
PUTTING IN OVERTIME – The BETHEL (KS) THRESHERS paid a visit to the OTTAWA (KS) UNIVERSITY BRAVES and managed a 27-24 win in OT ### Meanwhile, the MISSOURI BAPTIST UNIVERSITY SPARTANS used an extra session to defeat the CULVER-STOCKTON COLLEGE WILDCATS 44-37 ### And the OLIVET NAZARENE UNIVERSITY TIGERS won a 20-14 OT clash at the SIENA HEIGHTS UNIVERSITY SAINTS.
BUILDING A BLOWOUT – In this game the SOUTHWESTERN COLLEGE MOUNDBUILDERS found themselves on the road against the KANSAS WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY COYOTES. At the midpoint the Moundbuilders were on top 17-7 and from there they got more and more separation from the Coyotes, ultimately defeating them to the tune of 44-14.
THE FLORIDA-GEORGIA CLASSIC – The 2024 edition of this game saw the NAIA’s FLORIDA MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY LIONS hosting the NCAA Division Two’s CLARK ATLANTA UNIVERSITY PANTHERS. The Lions did the NAIA proud against the higher division team, managing to fight them to a 28-28 tie before the game was called final after an extended weather delay. Sister kissing, as they say.
VARYING DEGREES OF SPANKINGS – The BETHANY COLLEGE SWEDES beat the TABOR COLLEGE BLUEJAYS 33-21 in their own house ### The ST. AMBROSE UNIVERSITY FIGHTING BEES dismembered their hosts the WILLIAM WOODS UNIVERSITY OWLS 52-13 ### Meanwhile, the CUMBERLAND UNIVERSITY PHOENIX scorched the ST. ANDREWS UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS 41-6 ### And the SOUTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY FIRE beat the REINHARDT UNIVERSITY EAGLES (should be Rottweilers) 28-10.
NATIONAL CHRISTIAN COLLEGE ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION
TARTAN SAUCE – The CARNEGIE MELLON UNIVERSITY TARTANS took the field against the visiting GENEVA COLLEGE GOLDEN TORNADOES from the NCCAA. The Tartans led 7-0 in the opening Quarter and 14-7 by Halftime. Neither team scored in the 3rd Quarter, but the 4th saw CMU explode for 27 points and a 41-7 blowout win.
INSTANT CLASSIC – The MARIAN UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS welcomed the CONCORDIA (MI) CARDINALS. The Knights watched their 14-10 1st Quarter edge turn into a 24-20 lead for Concordia at the Half. Marian U. went up 27-24 to end the 3rd Quarter, then went on to win the game in the 4th 34-31.
“AVE MA-REEEE-UH” – This game pitted the AVE MARIA UNIVERSITY GYRENES against their guests, the UNIVERSITY OF FORT LAUDERDALE EAGLES (should be Flamingos). A scoreless opening Quarter was followed by the Gyrenes taking a 17-7 advantage into the break. From there Ave Maria U. triumphed by a final tally of 31-7.
DRUBBINGS AROUND THE LEAGUE – The EVANGEL UNIVERSITY VALOR won 38-14 at the STERLING COLLEGE WARRIORS ### Elsewhere, the TAYLOR UNIVERSITY TROJANS routed the JUDSON UNIVERSITY EAGLES 52-29 ### And the CAMPBELLSVILLE UNIVERSITY TIGERS handed a 48-12 beating to the UNION COMMONWEALTH UNIVERSITY BULLDOGS.

ADDITIONAL UPSETS IN THE RANKINGS – On top of the Upsets in the Headlines above, D2’s MINNESOTA STATE AT MOORHEAD DRAGONS visited the number 20 UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA AT DULUTH BULLDOGS and edged them 30-29 ### The 12th ranked DELTA STATE STATESMEN fell 21-7 at their hosts the WINGATE UNIVERSITY BULLDOGS ### And the NORTHWEST MISSOURI STATE BEARCATS toppled the number 21 FORT HAYS STATE TIGERS 32-20.
ONE-POINT WONDER – Yesterday the LAKE ERIE COLLEGE STORM welcomed the POST UNIVERSITY EAGLES. Post led 14-10 in the opening Quarter and 21-10 at the Half. In the 3rd Quarter the Storm pulled to within 21-13 and in the 4th mounted a rally to win the game by a final score of 28-27.
UNDER THE RADAR CLASSIC – The INDIANA UNIVERSITY OF PENNSYLVANIA CRIMSON HAWKS traveled to play the LOCK HAVEN UNIVERSITY BALD EAGLES. The Bald Eagles led 7-0 in the 1st Quarter but the Crimson Hawks went up 14-7 by the break. Lock Haven outscored IUP 10-6 in the 2nd Half but lost to the Crimson Hawks 20-17.
ALL NAME GAMES – The MISSOURI S&T MINERS crushed the visiting LINCOLN (CA) UNIVERSITY OAKLANDERS 45-6 ### Meanwhile the (19) HENDERSON STATE REDDIES sent the SOUTHEASTERN OKLAHOMA STATE SAVAGE STORM back home reeling from a 34-17 doubling ### And the TEXAS A&M AT KINGSVILLE JAVELINAS won 27-7 at the MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE CHOCTAWS.

ADDITIONAL UPSETS IN THE RANKINGS – In addition to the Headline Upset yesterday, the SALISBURY UNIVERSITY SEA GULLS took the field against the 18th ranked MUHLENBERG COLLEGE MULES and defeated them 59-38 ### And the DEPAUW UNIVERSITY TIGERS notched a 33-0 road shutout at the number 22 BERRY UNIVERSITY VIKINGS.
A DOUBLE SHOT OF THAT OT LOVE – The COE COLLEGE KOHAWKS took it on the road against the UW-EAU CLAIRE BLUGOLDS in this game. A 21-7 Kohawks lead at Halftime turned into a 28-21 edge in the 3rd Quarter. The Blugolds forced Overtime via a 28-21 tie, with the 1st OT ending in a 35-35 deadlock and the 2nd in a 43-41 win for Coe College.
UNSUNG CLASSIC – The TUFTS UNIVERSITY JUMBOS threw out the welcome mat for the BOWDOIN COLLEGE POLAR BEARS. The Jumbos led 7-0, 10-7 and 20-14 in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Quarters, respectively. In the 4th Tufts outlasted the Polar Bears by a tight score of 23-21.
FOUR QUARTERS WEREN’T ENOUGH – The ROCKFORD UNIVERSITY REGENTS logged a 31-24 OT win at the COLLEGE OF ST. SCHOLASTICA SAINTS ### Elsewhere, the (17) UW-OSHKOSH TITANS defeated the visiting (21) LINFIELD COLLEGE WILDCATS 28-21 in OT ### And the (9) RANDOLPH-MACON COLLEGE YELLOWJACKETS survived the HOBART COLLEGE STATESMEN 14-7.
NATIONAL JUNIOR COLLEGE ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION
CLOSE CALL FOR NUMBER ONE – The NJCAA’s number 1 team in the nation – the HUTCHINSON COLLEGE BLUE DRAGONS – hosted the 12th ranked IOWA CENTRAL COLLEGE TRITONS. The Tritons had Hutch worried at Halftime as they led 14-6. The Blue Dragons pulled to within 21-16 to end the 3rd Quarter and forced OT with a 30-30 tie in the 4th. In the extra session Hutchinson College eked out a 33-30 victory.
ONE HUNDREDTH MEETING – Saturday marked the 100th clash between the TYLER COLLEGE APACHES and the visiting TRINITY VALLEY COLLEGE CARDINALS. The game developed into a defensive clinic and by the time 4 Quarters were over things stood knotted up at 7-7. In OT the Apaches scored a Touchdown and PAT, then stopped TVC to win out 14-7.
COMFORTABLE HOME STANDS – The LOUISBURG COLLEGE HURRICANES doubled up 44-22 over the visiting HOCKING COLLEGE HAWKS ### Next, the COLLEGE OF DUPAGE CHAPARRALS won 50-0 over the COMMUNITY CHRISTIAN COLLEGE LIONS ### And the (2) IOWA WESTERN COLLEGE REIVERS smoked the DODGE CITY COLLEGE CONQUISTADORS 44-16.
WORKING OVERTIME – In this game the (14) GARDEN CITY COLLEGE BRONCBUSTERS traveled to take on the COFFEYVILLE COLLEGE RED RAVENS. A 14-3 1st Quarter lead for the Red Ravens was cut to 23-16 by Garden City College at the Half. From there the Broncbusters forced OT with a 23-23 4th Quarter tie, and in the extra session they won out 29-23.
CALIFORNIA COMMUNITY COLLEGE ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION
ONE-POINT WONDER – This game pitted the CHABOT COLLEGE GLADIATORS against their guests the MERCED COLLEGE BLUE DEVILS. A tale of 2 Halves was the result, with the score standing at 7-7 come Halftime. After the break, the offenses warmed up with the Gladiators leading 21-14 to end the 3rd Quarter, then holding on tight for a 28-27 victory.
THE COOLER NAME WINS – The MONTEREY PENINSULA COLLEGE LOBOS handily defeated their hosts the LOS MEDANOS COLLEGE MUSTANGS 44-26 ### Next, the GROSSMONT COLLEGE GRIFFINS doubled up on the ANTELOPE VALLEY COLLEGE MARAUDERS 24-12 ### And the (24) PALOMAR COLLEGE COMETS won 14-10 at the EL CAMINO COLLEGE WARRIORS.
WE WENT TO A FOOTBALL GAME BUT A POLO GAME BROKE OUT – Points were at a premium in this game between the SAN DIEGO MESA COLLEGE OLYMPIANS and the visiting CERRITOS COLLEGE FALCONS. When all of the dust had settled the Olympians prevailed over Cerritos College by a polo score of 12-8.
HOME STANDS – The SANTA MONICA COLLEGE CORSAIRS beat the COLLEGE OF THE DESERT ROADRUNNERS 24-10 ### Meanwhile, the LOS ANGELES VALLEY COLLEGE MONARCHS hosted the COMPTON COLLEGE TARTARS and defeated them 46-38 ### And the (4) MOUNT SAN ANTONIO COLLEGE MOUNTIES won 22-14 against the VENTURA COLLEGE PIRATES.
