BALLADEER’S BLOG: WNBA RESULTS

With just over a week left in the WNBA’s regular season, here’s a look at recent results:

EXTRA SESSION – The INDIANA FEVER (19-17) took the court against the visiting ATLANTA DREAM (12-24).

Atlanta was leading 48-44 at Halftime, but from there the Fever forced Overtime with a 90-90 deadlock to end Regulation. In the extra session Indiana defeated the Fever by a final score of 104-100. Aliyah Boston led Indiana with her Double Double of THIRTY points and 13 rebounds, while Caitlin Clark notched her own Double Double of 26 points and 12 assists.

NO ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK – The league leading NEW YORK LIBERTY (30-6) invaded the lair of the DALLAS WINGS (9-27) in this game.

A 28-18 1st Quarter lead for the Liberty became 58-43 by the midpoint. After the break, New York kept the Wings at arm’s length while they glided to a Century Club victory of 105-91. (To qualify for the Century Club 100 points or more must be scored in 4 Qtrs, not OT.) Twenty-seven points from Breanna Stewart led the way for the Liberty, while her teammate Sabrina Ionescu got a Double Double of 14 points and 11 assists.

WEST OVER EAST – The Western Conference’s MINNESOTA LYNX (27-9) paid a visit to the Eastern Conference’s WASHINGTON MYSTICS (11-24).

The Lynx held an 18-17 edge in the Opening Quarter before Washington went up 39-35 at the Half. From there Minnesota outscored the Mystics 43-32 to win the game by a final tally of 78-71. Napheesa Collier was the leading scorer for the Lynx with her Double Double of 19 points and 12 rebounds.

SUNSHINE – The CONNECTICUT SUN (26-10) took it on the road to face the hapless LOS ANGELES SPARKS (7-29) in this game.

The Sun led Los Angeles 43-32 by Halftime and 64-45 to end the 3rd Quarter. In the 4th, Connecticut made it an even 20-point difference as they defeated the Sparks 86-66. The winners were led by Marina Mabrey, who tossed in 26 points for her team.

GRUNGE CITY – This game pitted the SEATTLE STORM (21-14) against the visiting PHOENIX MERCURY (17-19).

A 17-17 tie in the 1st Quarter turned into a 45-30 advantage for the Storm at the Half. After the break, Seattle kept up the pressure on the Mercury, ultimately winning the game by a final score of 90-66. Jewell Loyd tossed in 20 points to lead the Storm and her teammate Skylar Diggins-Smith registered a Double Double of 12 points and 11 assists. 

BIG SECOND QUARTER – The LAS VEGAS ACES (22-13) played host to the CHICAGO SKY (13-22).

A big 2nd Quarter fueled the Aces as they were on top of Chicago 17-13 to end the opening Quarter but by the break held a 47-31 lead. The 3rd Quarter ended with Las Vegas up 68-51 before the Aces consummated a 90-71 triumph in the 4th. A’ja Wilson’s Double Double of THIRTY points and 14 rebounds led the victors, aided by Chelsea Gray’s Double Double of 13 points and 10 assists.

  3. Um. Unh. Phlbbbbbt! Is that how it’s spelt? I’m still waiting the results of my DNA-ancestry testing. When I know what and how, I’ll visit GNC and get some supplements to seek a cure for my genetic shortcomings.
